I have been using drainage cell for years, it's a great way to anchor the sand in place and to spread the weight of your larger rocks without scratching the glass as well, a good way to build up your scape, I also use geo fabric underneath if you want to protect the tank from any damage, it isn't necessary but if I'm working on someone else's tank I use it as they may have other plans in future were the scratches may be visible.

Thanks for the ideas. Because of one of your past posts, when I get out my pressure washer for odd jobs around the house, I will pull out a rock or piece of wood with stubborn algae issues from a problem tank, Bam…. It’s gone! All the best to you in the new year 😎

Hi, friend! Well, I precisely have 3 projects that I will start in January, and your proposal seems like an absolutely brilliant idea to me. Until now I had always used those special bags for the Filter Material filled with JBL Volcano Mineral, but then, as you very well detail in your video, the possibility of planting in that area is considerably reduced, and on the other hand, JBL Volcano is not a precisely very economical product.... So I'm going to try your idea, I think it can work very well in my case. I continue to say that your videos are absolutely fantastic starting with the editing and production, and ending with the content, your videos are always a 10. I wish you a happy new year and may 2024 bring you lots of health and success in your projects. Greetings from Germany

This has been a thing for quite a while... Worth pointing out that you really need to pack the substrate down into the grids as they are prone to air pockets.

Just curious and this might sound like a stupid question but what happens if I do fail at packing the substrate in the grids and result in air pockets? I personally don't know what air packets do T.T

@@roxxi3089 they can create anaerobic zones with nitrogen and/or sulphide. If those bubbles 'burst' and travel through the water column then it can drastically alter the water chemistry. Possibly not a problem in a biiiig tank due to dilution, but even then I wouldn't risk it when it is easily avoided.

@@pwnski Thank you! That's hella good to know. I will surely pack it well when I try this :D

Its not air pockets that create this but stagnant water. As long as there is waterflow you wont have these anaerobic pockets. And Nitrogen is a fertiliser for the plants. In a heavily planted tank the nitrogen will be taken up by the plants. And in the rare occassion a bubble comes up. It hardly does anything. Everyone who knows about Co2 injection knows why. Why do we want these microbubbles? Why dont we use a regular airstone? So dont worry too much about it in planted tanks with lots of waterflow.

About the gravel bag, I would use a Black gravel bag & black lava rock with it. It wouldnt be as obvious as White bag.
