The dream team beat themselves the first game. They were all superstars and everybody wanted to show why they were picked. They didn’t play as a team and the college team beat them. The coach did not intervene because he wanted them humbled so they would listen to him. He even kept the STAR Jordan sitting on the bench most of the game. Imagine how hard coaching the best players of the NBA on one team. Why would they listen to a coach. Coach Daly let the college players get ahead, then stopped the practice, cleared the scoreboard and let the press into the building. He told the team anybody can be beat and then gave them his plan to follow. It worked but every practice was like a championship game after that. There was not one game in that Olympics where the outcome of the Dream team was in doubt. Coach Daly got the stars to play as a team. He even became golf buddies with Jordan, who had to hate him. Daly designed the defense that drove Jordan crazy when he played the Bad Boys.

2 of my favorite basketball players from the 80s/90s was hakeem Olajuwan and Dominique Wilkins. Both incredibly underrated and never had another star or helper on their team to help them get more championships. I always wished they would end up on the same team. If they had they'd been very hard to stop.

And its not like Bird and Magic, because they not only respected each other, considered each other friends at the end of their careers. And Larry was the opposite personality compared to Caitlin. I’d like to preface this by saying that I played basketball in NYC in an all primarily black high school and got my nick name from the brothers playing at The Cage and at Rucker Park. We were all trying to emulate what Larry Bird was doing on the playground and it was impossible for us. However, I remember hearing what Pat Riley said, “If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save a game, I’d choose Michael Jordan, but if I had to choose a player to take a shot to save my life, I’d take Larry Bird."
