Can you list your ingredients please? Chili powder or oil? Detergent like Dawn dish soap? I need help in taking care of my fruit trees. Thank you!
@TheBiteSizedGarden2 ай бұрын
I’m not very scientific with it. Usually I’ll use about a tablespoon of eco friendly liquid dishwashing detergent, the same of garlic infused olive oil (but crushed garlic and any cooking oil would be fine), and chilli powder is usually easiest but you could finely chop chillies - as long as they are hot! Mix it all up and paste it on. You may need to re do it after a week, especially if it rains, but you should see results pretty quick. Good luck!

What happens in below freezing temperatures, does the self watering portion become one block of ice. If so, does it harm the plastic tank?
@TheBiteSizedGarden2 ай бұрын
We don’t see freezing temperatures here so I don’t know, but it shouldn’t harm the plastic as there is vertical space to expand into - like water freezing in an ice tray.

Has anybody done side by side comparisons of wicking beds using rock or scoria in the reservoir vs an all-water reservoir with a raised floor for the soil,layer?
@TheBiteSizedGarden2 ай бұрын
There are lots videos on KZbin that show people doing different styles. The idea of using ag pipe and rock came from one of these. The more space you have to hold water, the better for water retention, so the longer they'll last without watering.

The weed mat may not wick as good as a Geofabric Mat. Did you have any issues here?
@TheBiteSizedGarden4 ай бұрын
A few people have been curious about this but I haven’t had any issues at all. A while ago I dug down and inspected two of the beds. Most of the mat had gone, some roots had worked all the way down to the gravel and moisture was wicking up the sides anyway.

The proof is in the pudding. Looks like you have decent growth there. Excellent video by the way. I’m unsure if I’m more impressed by the raised garden or your video editing skills.

I need to build about 50 of these for a pocket Agrihood I’m developing. In the heat of the southern U.S. I have mastered the drain tile SIP system with waist high planters but have been deciding if coy pond neoprene liners (that I use for myself) are the way to go for this large scale, but this gives me an idea.

I have a question about the material of the container…if it’s plastic, is that safe and not leaking micro plastics?
@TheBiteSizedGarden4 ай бұрын
Good question. Micro plastics in our food system are a huge problem for humanity but these IBC tanks are food grade and very stable, so will last for many many years, especially as they are not in direct sun light.

What kind of plants have you planted along the rocks area?
@TheBiteSizedGarden4 ай бұрын
There are a few. We had lots of purple iris in our front yard so I re-used a lot of these when planting out the pond. They actually handle being submerged quite well too. Otherwise there are a variety of grasses and water plants sourced from a local native plant nursery.

Nice display, the wooden pot holders are a lot nicer than the black plastic ones I've seen. Your dog reminded us of our dog Cooper. He was a lovely dog, with kind eyes and always a good boy, he was 11 when we lost him three years ago, we still miss him.

Sure, I've been building stuff since I was a kid, so have built up a decent set of tools. Nothing like a workshop though and I've never had any official training. There is nothing technically difficult about this build and I'm sure you could borrow or rent everything I used pretty easily.

I’m wanting to make more compost so wanted some autumn leaves. I’ve been eyeing off all the trees losing their leaves at the moment around where I live (Mid North Coast NSW), so this video has been fantastic, thank you! It’s really worked for me. This year I have about 50 lemons on a 6” high tree. I’ve also started using diatomaceous earth for my indoor plants and I’ve had amazing results against scale. Just don’t buy a 2kg tub like I did, 😂, it only takes a few teaspoons to do the whole house with a duster!

Brilliant, I want to put a curved bridge over my pond but none of the pre-mades are wide enough to work so I will have to build my own. I was wracking my brain thinking I would have to warp the lumber using water and clamps but your way is brilliant! Do you think it would still work with a 16 ft board or would that weaken the span too much?
@TheBiteSizedGarden7 ай бұрын
16 foot is quite a span. I’m not an engineer so couldn’t say for sure. My guess is it would hold the weight but it might be bouncy. You could always go to a lumber yard and see if they’ll put some long beams on a couple of pallets and see how it feels.

Good looking beds!! I also use some IBC raised bed with success. But yours look better, it give me ideas to improve mine! I worked in food industries and IBC plastic is not permeable, hence it can be washed and rinse. I made holes at bottom and left bottom valve/ 6'' cap open to let excess water (rain) flow out. I filled the bottom with old wood and tree leaves as it will transform in food when it decays and it is free. Then I made a mix of peat moss/compost/black earth to fill the top 12''. Perfect ground for tomatoes and easy to reach! Thanks for sharing your project.
