I never really heard the prosperity gospel the few times I watched Morris at Gateway. cant really speak to that. What I can say, is that if someone preaches the Gospel, it really doesnt matter what theyve done, its the Gospel that saves. if the person leading has a gift of communication, and he is communicating the truth, then the truth will still pierce peoples hearts even if that man is sinful. The scriptures warn against those who "preach another gospel", not necessarily someone whose life was sinful only. David and Moses were adulterers and murderers, yet they actually wrote the scriptures. Their sin did cost them for sure, but it didnt negate the truth that was spoken/written. So can a church grow under a man who has committed horrible acts? Can a RELIGION grow whose holy book was written by men who committed horrible acts? The answer must be "yes". The question SHOULD be, how much BIGGER would those things be had those men been faithful and did NOT commit those horrible acts? Sometimes its what we DONT see that answers the question

There is very little being said about the Gateway Frisco Pastor charged with SA of under 14 year olds. (Im not sure if the 2 charges are related to 1 or 2 children) The 2 women that reported to the church were ostracized by the church. They had also reported to police. His trial by jury starts in October. This is a systemic problem! This is the 4th case of SA of children. 3 Pastors and one church member. Another case was an adult woman wrongfully dismissed when reporting a Pastor that was making advances on her. That makes 5 separate cases where Gateway has fumbled terribly.

Robert Morris didn't elaborate on the sin he committed years ago. Is this required to preach or teach? I know Robert Morris was going to retire soon regardless, but to say he can't serve God is that saying Christ's death on the cross was not a good enough sacrifice to redeem Robert Morris? What he did was horrific, but doesn't Christ forgive even the murderer?

It is imperative that we Americans learn self control. Unfortunately having been a Southern Baptist for nearly 25 years, I was also led to think that sin was not as dangerous as it really is. He thought that he was "Saved". We sorely need to concentrate on REPENTANCE. No more of this eternal security nonsense! All the Apostles taught repentance. When grace was taught, it was not a replacement for repentance, it was always alongside of it. The works of the law were condemned BECAUSE one can keep the law without having a repentant heart. But a repentant heart always walks in grace. I'm afraid that that pastor may well have bought himself a ticket to hell. Because he didn't repent. He didn't turn from his wicked ways. I have never heard a more milk toast commentary in my life! Call sin a sin for crying out loud. Churches need to stop hiring sinners as pastors and go back to requiring a testimony other than "I was baptized at 7 and joined the church and attended seminary etc.". Needless to say, the member on the committees that are tasked to interview potential pastors need to be saved and have a healthy dose of suspicion when investigating potential hires. In the Bible, pastors, deacons, elders were chosen from the congregation they were going to serve and had already exhibited spiritual and moral maturity. We don't know the details of when and where the abuse happened, but at least the perv was arrested.
