Right on! A black tipped version of my own HD loads. 110 VMAX over a healthy charge of ramshot enforcer, PMC and LC converted brass.

Very nice! I'm trying to find a decent load that this will shoot accurately, and then be able to use that in my ARs for HD or hunting or whatever. Did you see any flattened primers at the lower charges and especially on the top end?
@CrashRacknShoot
@CrashRacknShoot 2 күн бұрын
@@DummyRound absolutely. You need some truly tough primers with Enforcer. "5.56" types or small rifle magnum seem to work for me. My load data from lyman, lee, and western powders all put a 110 vmax at 19.3 gr with a COAL of 2.068. I load to 2.075 and I was backing primers out at max charge. I've stemmed that problem by downloading to 19.0. They're accurate and I only need those to work once, so not too concerned with trashing the brass after 1 shot. Has a way of loosening the primer pockets unless you load pretty far down.
@CrashRacknShoot
@CrashRacknShoot 2 күн бұрын
@@DummyRound I should note I've almost exclusively went to chopping PMC brass down, as the primer pockets seem tougher than LC brass. Also, there's usually no need to ream or swage* PMC pockets, so you can keep all the brass where it needs to be. I've been able to get a few shots out of them at high charges. I sadly can't consistently say the same for LC. It's a shame because it works fantastically in .223/5.56. EDIT: when I say PMC, I do not mean PSD. PSD has thick walls that don't chop down well.
@DummyRound
@DummyRound 2 күн бұрын
I was using the Remington 7-1/2s, which are supposedly "bench rest", though I'm not sure that's the same as a "magnum". I do have other magnums I could try... but, like you said, you only really need it to work once for those types of loads. I will have to retry the one center charge that grouped up nicely, or just start over completely with a better piece of glass up top. As far as brass, I have probably 90% LC. The rest are all mixed headstamps I gathered from the list of usable cases from the 300blktalk forums. I think I have some of the PSD cases in there, definitely some PMC. Maybe I'll try to find 5 of each headstamp and do a comparison someday when I find a load that works in the LC. Thanks for sharing🤠👍

@@DummyRound happy to help! Republic had murom 5.56 on sale for like 5 or 6 cents each not too long ago. They're what I use for them now. Nice sturdy cup that won't flatten nearly as fast and load in easy. Regular small rifle was just flattening at just above minimum charge, no matter what brand I tried. Beginning to think small rifle was a typo in the testing.

I would do a little more research on the HF black powder. When i first started off i tried to use is and never could get it to work properly for me. I did more researching on it and seems that the ingredient they use in it to make it a "matte" finish is not good for barrels. My info didnt come from a research lab with intensive testing. But rather from several members on different forums and also a couple of prominent youtube guys concluded the same. Im no expert and you cant believe everything you see on the internet either, so take it with a grain of salt. Just trying to give some caution out if anyone cares to do their own research on it.
@DummyRound
@DummyRound 3 күн бұрын
I've heard that, but it doesn't worry me too much. I don't usually do flat black, mostly because it doesn't work, but I just use it as a filler or to add an accent to a batch of powder coat. How are they even measuring the wear done by this? I feel like you'd have to shoot several hundred or thousands to notice a difference. Lead is soft and swages down to the bore. People do fire lapping and what not to purposefully wear down spots. Not saying it doesn't happen, I just need some data other than somebody saying somebody said something. All that said, I'm not buying any more of it and just use small amounts to add accents to otherwise plain colors. Thanks 👍🇺🇲

My savage 110 tac and axis also my BCA10 will all shoot 1 hole groups with 45.5 cfe 223 and any 150 grain bullet seated to 2.800 average in 24 barrel of 2792 . The same charge for 168 match bullets shoots great in all 3 also. I went to 51.3 in my 24 inch barrel savage 110 and got 3078 fps average but with very flat primers and 5 inch groups. I got lucky on the 45.5 load just picked it out for a AR10 blasting load and put 5 in the same hole so I tried all my 150s and well damn it worked with all of them. I use it with the Barns ttsx 130 also and got .3 with 53 grains and a average of 3140 fps with great ES of 5.

Very nice! This gun seems to be picky, and I'm not the best shot. It likes the 168s and 175s a bit more, but I never found a good load with that powder. It ended up going to blasting ammo because it does meter very well. Thanks for sharing🇺🇲

I have Lee presses for 12ga and 20ga. I also have MEC presses in 12 and .410. I can't imagine anyone honestly preferring the Lee. They are dirt cheap, but there are better choices for more money. No resizing rings to mess with, not having to worry about having a pleat pointed at you when you crimp and actual height adjustments for uniform crimps vs doing it by "feel" on a non-adjustable ram all make for a much better experience. It's easy to buckle a hull with the Lee.

Say I have a bunch of mediocre factory m80 ball rounds, could I pull the bullet, remeasure the powder load, and sink a better bullet in there and potentially have a more accurate round? Or is that juice not worth the squeeze?
@DummyRound
@DummyRound 6 күн бұрын
That's what they call, "Mexican Match Ammo"! You pull the bullets, weigh all the powder and recharge with the same exact weight in each one based on their average charge weight when you pulled them (or the total weight of all the powder divided by the number of rounds you emptied). You can then reseat the same bullet for a more consistent lot of ammo, or you can change to a more efficient/higher BC bullet of the same weight. Using a heavier bullet will increase pressure. Lighter bullets may be used, but they will probably have a reduced velocity compared to a factory load with that lighter bullet. It's impossible to tell what powder they're using, so changing bullets and making up your own load would be highly advised against. Long story short, use a better bullet of the same weight after recharging with the same charge weight in each case.

To smooth out the seating process with top heavy combinations I simply just take a charged case, put it into the shell holder, advance the ram part way to the die and set the bullet onto the top of the case as it glides into the die. No problems at all.

I keep having issues with ball powders and metering and told myself I would get extruded next go around.... Long story short, PV had a really good deal 8# of Ramshot Xterminator. Have you found anything that meters ball powers half decent? I am still working on the last jug of that Shooters world ar plus that is no longer in production to burn through as well. Im getting tired of losing so much of it.
@DummyRound
@DummyRound 7 күн бұрын
I just use the uniflow or Dillon powder measure if I'm using ball powders at a set charge weight. For a work up I still have to use the Charge Master and just deal with the powder spilling everywhere, which I really dislike. Xterminator is a pretty decent powder for 223, but has very fine balls that do like to spill everywhere. I think I used 22.3gr with the 50gr frangibles from AR and those run in everything from a 7.5" pistol to 20" rifle gas system. Sorry, none of that was helpful lol

Long story short, I got it in a trade. There are no real issues yet. It seems to be breaking in nicely. I would have picked the Ruger, but I'm not dissatisfied with the MVP as of yet. I do really hate that you can't close the bolt on an empty mag. The glass on it has got to go, though 👍🇺🇲 Thanks!

@@DummyRound I really wasn’t to keen on loading to magazines length the whole purpose in getting a bolt gun is to be able to customize coal. I’m sure it’s a bit different with 300 black. But with 223/556 is was a bad combo lots of jams if you didn’t run the bolt a specific way at a specific speed. And if you didn’t you would end up with double feeds. And that flipper design on the bolt would create soooo much trouble stripping the cartridge off the mag. Just a really silly and bad design in the bolt. Again it’s probably not as bad in the 300 black because the ojive on the 300 is much more forgiving.

It's not amazing, by any means. But, it is kind of fun to play around with. If I had a can, it would actually make sense 😆 It's just a range toy I might eventually make a hunting load for. Casting makes it super cheap to shoot all day. But the bolt is annoying and sometimes doesn't feed correctly. That seems to be breaking itself in, however. I'll probably get 350L in a bolt action next since it doesn't work very well in an AR, and eventually swap a new barrel in the 350L upper to something new or just another 556 or 300blk. Maybe 6.5 Grendel or 6 ARC? I want to do 6x45, that has some pretty crazy ballistics. Just a necked up 223 case to 6mm. Basically 6 ARC before 6 ARC and I can use my existing brass and bolt head. Getting rambly now. Have a great weekend 👍🇺🇲

I have had this happen twice. Once with a 44 mag and the second with subsonic 308. The 44 mag was a pop when there should have been a boom. The 308 was was a bit different, I didn't see impact on the berm. When I unlocked the bolt the case auto ejected because of the residual pressure. Experience is your best friend in these situations. Someone who isn't familiar with it may have just racked another round.
