We really feel the new OPTIMA QH6 lithium battery is going to be a huge game-changer. Super light, tons of tech, and under $600 WITH a 5-year full replacement warranty is INSANE value.

Great video! Question: how did you set the toe at the track (string , machine , other trick)?
@BimmerWorldMedia17 күн бұрын
Before heading to the track, b at the shop we did a before and after camber change and saw the toe change needed so we knew exactly what we needed to do quickly to get it back to where we targeted. Then we double checked with plates/tape measure.

Everyone at the track switches their carbon Porsche or BMW rotors for iron as soon as they get the car for a reason. Much better off going with iron brakes and saving the carbon brakes unused for when you sell the car.

What is the weight difference between the OEM M2 battery and the smaller optima one?
@BimmerWorldMedia29 күн бұрын
While other chassis that are more popular to change to a smaller battery have a fairly drastic weight drop of 18, 20, 22+lbs, this specific M2 application isn't nearly as impressive. Clarios, the parent company of OPTIMA Batteries, actually provides the OE battery for the M2, so thankfully they are all equipped with an excellent battery from the factory, but we still chose to upgrade to the H7 YELLOWTOP for more juice per pound! We expect to have another battery option for this car (and others) very soon and will be releasing that information and update the weight differences which will be drastic.
@ronadrian553929 күн бұрын
I think it would be worth mentioning when doing battery changes that the car's computer has to be reprogrammed to properly charge the new battery and compensate for the difference in AH (if any changes) and state.

about 5 minutes in - you talk about not running the anti-rattle clip is running the brass guide pin bushings. i have to admit, that's the first i've heard (having run brass for many years) and don't recall seeing it in the notes with the brass kit. that'd be a welcome addition if its not already there. are there any other consequences to not running the rattle clip with this setup? for cars that are street driven as well as track - is it still recommended to remove the clip? happy to chat offline if you'd prefer! thank you for producing these series - even having been around e36s for a long time, driving, instructing, etc. i still picked up new info....
@TaylorGoesFast26 күн бұрын
That note is pretty prominently displayed on the listing for the brass caliper bushings.
@shadowpuck9919 күн бұрын
@@TaylorGoesFast yup, understood - just saying it was the first time i've run across that note and it wasn't in previous instructions with the kit. just found it interesting. thought i would comment if it wasn't noted someplace or with the kit now that would be appreciated. sounds like it is noted so great!

Nice to have a shop built car to drive. I know you guys are bimmer world but it would be nice to know the options for building the car to class and where you can add or save in the build. The little tip on the sleeving the brake line was nice.
@BimmerWorldMediaАй бұрын
While the parts were all sourced from BimmerWorld (of course) this car was built/assembled/etc by Phil and Carrie at their own home garage - not at the BimmerWorld shop. That was actually part of the entire reason for the build series, to show that a normal person, with normal tools, and yes with a garage but not a full team of people at their disposal can still certainly refresh an E36 and prep for a track day and eventually...racing. This was by no means a "no budget" build. It was just going through the car and taking care of all the known failure points and catching up on maintenance before having an issue at the track. You can certainly do little by little and fix and upgrade as time/money allows, but this was still a very VERY affordable way of making a fairly bulletproof car for Carrie to get comfortable with and not struggling through a weekend fixing the car instead of driving it. If you have any specific questions regarding a build of your own we'd be more than happy to talk you through any of the areas where you can best prioritize your money and labor to do the same.

Use a lapping compound to make sure individual spacers is fitted correctly, and avoid buy powdered coated ones? I think most of them are anodized aluminum.
