It would have been perfect for mounted archers. Get within range, fire off your magazine, retreat and reload.

So it's that early time when gunpowder was already invented but guns weren't a thing yet, so instead of shooting a bullet with that powder some madlads just slapped a package of it on an arrowhead and fired it from a bow.

Did try this at home actually, regularly, as a child (about 10 yrs old, Inverness, 1960s). The kit was simple and easily made from local rowan wood. The bow was made from a shaft of rowan, usually unsculpted, dried for a while and then notched and strung. The arrows were of coppiced rowan, usually unfletched (heavy at pointed end!), pointed, notched and the ends dried in a fire. The chemical warfare addition consisted of dried beech leaves wrapped around the arrow just behind the point and bound with strips of broom bark. That was then dipped in a mixture of petrol and paraffin. Isn't technology wonderful.

What about fighting against someone with only one sword? Wouldn't it be SIGNIFICANTLY more advantageous? Because they are basically disarmed? Assuming you can keep a good grip on it?

I think UK owners of crossbows should be vetted before purchase and a licensing system should be put in place, as I believe at the moment, any idiot can buy one.

Wayy late to this but even in 18th century scabbards for swords etc. The back is often times really ugly stitching line wise. Like its not an even stitch count, and it zig zags all over the place. Meanwhile front is the focus of “niceness” with somewhat good enough lines along the front usually with sideways lines and X’s that don’t cross in the center of the X.

wouldn't you just use a sword or knife to scrape it off? would have liked to see Tod try to scrape it off with a blade when it was stuck in the fabric. Also when it was stuck in the shield.

Странно что в этом тесте не использовались бронебойные наконечники для стрел. А ведь именно такими обычно стреляли по воинам в доспехах. Но всё равно было очень интересно.

I suppose that the poor guys that got a fire arrow head (without the stick) stuck in the maille would use their own sword to try to disengage it, and if that fails, resort to using their hands. Better to get burned hands than chest.
