I used stathmore tracing paper its already a lot more translucent, then liquitex glass medium since i figured its suposed to be clear, then acrylic paint just because, but only a drip or so. Gave me a result even more transparent then yours, had i used inks it would have literaly no streaks but i wanted those. Then i used decoart soft touch varnish to tone down the gloss expecting less translucent but it was equally translucent. Used a cheap flower punch , most satisfying punch ever, clips out like a charm. Thank you for the idea, no other paper gave me more satisfaction.

Oh Heather, the roses and trellises are absolutely beautiful. You are very talented and I find it hard to believe that you have trouble manipulating your hands to make miniatures. You make it look so easy. I thought I could make them without any machinery but am not sure now. Maybe I need a Cricut. Room for thought, as I have only started making miniatures and have already bought so much more than I can justify if I lose interest. Then there is the laser cutter!!!! Arrrgh, I don’t think I could work out how to use one of those. Could ask my niece about the Cricut as she has one. One thing about retirement you have the time to ponder these things. Better not ponder too long, am not getting any younger. Lol Cheers Robyn ❤😊
@Thicketworks5 ай бұрын
Well, my friend - if your niece has a Cricut, then perhaps you needn't invest in one. Could a family collaboration be arranged? On the other hand, if you search online, you can find flower punches that will work, too - but of course the advantage of the Cricut is that it can do so many tasks for us. If you haven't already succumbed to the miniaturist madness, I advise you to turn back NOW! Once the malady takes hold, there is no 'losing interest'...on the contrary, the obsession intensifies...😅 And yes, I am extremely clumsy. Making miniatures has helped a little, but I'm still a fumble fingers. 🤣 Lastly, if the desire is strong enough, you WILL learn how to use a laser cutter. Don't be intimidated by the technicalities - they can all be overcome. That's what KZbin is for. 😉 All the best to you and yours, Robyn. 😘

Sorry Heather, I have already succumbed to the miniaturist madness. I think of miniatures before sleeping, wake up in the middle of the night thinking about them and first thing in the morning I reach for the IPad to watch yet another tutorial. I have it bad. Dear Robyn...we all need quiet moments to rejuvenate the Spirit. It means the world to me that you found a bit of peace here. May you find that these moments appear just when you need them most. Watching the birds and squirrels frolic outside my window helps to calm my internal tempest. We're surrounded by reminders of the miracle of creation, although I often ignore them. Let's keep putting one foot in front of the other, in spite of the darkness. Better days lie ahead. 😘

hey heather, i am really impressed how good and easy it looks. really creative. i was wondering if the herbes will lose their color due to aging (especially the greener ones like parsley) or if they will stay the same because they are sealed with pva glue. maybe your expertise could help me figuring it out. thanks for the content and the ideas.
@Thicketworks6 ай бұрын
Thank you for your kindness, my friend. As you suspected, I learned the hard way that the herbs fade over time. I've since taken to dying the herbs with a bit of diluted acrylic paint or ink...this means that I end up applying them as a kind of paste, rather than as dry sprinkles, but the end result is much more long-lasting. Here's a link to a later video where I demonstrate the 'new and improved' version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX7Wd6B7o7erntUsi=f21mAExys2-VmeI_&t=3115

I have a question; could you use the shapes you punch out and gold leaf those, then insert them back into the holes? I don't have a Cricut or know how to use one, but I just watched your video with the bronze powder (gorgeous) and wondered if you could replicate that using those punch outs?
@Thicketworks7 ай бұрын
What a great question, Marina. Although I haven't pursued this option, I have been thinking about it for years now. What you describe is similar to marquetry - and an age old technique of cutting identical patterns from differing materials, then recombining them, so that ivory (for example) fills the voids that have been cut from a sheet of wood veneer. In short - yes. Humans have been doing this for centuries, and with CNC/electronic cutting technology, the possibilities are endless. Similar effects can be achieved even with the use of paper punches. Punch a border pattern then fill the holes with differing papers that have been punched out with the same pattern. Tedious? Absolutely. Worth it? All artistic output involves tedium by necessity, so YEAH!😍
@marinamarioni63847 ай бұрын
@@Thicketworks yes exactly, marquetry! I make 1:12 scale furniture and miniatures in wood and I have done inlaid table tops with wood veneer (INCREDIBLY tedious!) but I was charmed by your cabinet with the bronze dust inlays to replicate metal inlay, and I wondered if you had tried the gold leafing for that. But when I think of it, it's probably more work than the bronze dust, and the dust probably makes a more realistic effect anyway. P.S. I love your work! I envy the knowledge to use Cricuts and laser cutters, the computer aspect intimidates me, I'm an analog hands-on girl!

This is such a great find for me, thank you for the downloads!! I am tired of buying everything lol... I am putting together a greenhouse.. however.... I love the secret garden idea with plants and flowers, old things as well as a sitting area, and then on to the courtyard type of outdoor garden in a 1:12 scale ( I am new at diorama things ) will this work in that size frame as well as your other downloads, asking because I am unsure of the scale you are building here?
@Thicketworks7 ай бұрын
Your greenhouse project sounds delicious. Glad to hear that you might find this little collection useful! This is roughly 1:12 scale - at least, that was the intention. The items should look at home in a 1:12 scale environment.

they are both beautiful, but the second piece really is amazing! I wish I had a Cricut and knew how to use it, I would definitely build something with that technique!
