Thank you for your in-depth perspective on this. I know it sounds sexist but I really appreciate women youtubers giving their perspective on 'fatherly' narratives geared toward the male demographic and how they react to them. 90% of reviews are given from the perspective of a white guy so it's good to be reminded that these stories and characters can appeal to people outside that core demographic. I also agree the Beneviento house should've been given more space. It almost seems like an anomaly in the game, the other 3 houses are mostly monstrous while Beneviento house seemed like the designers were just told 'make something scary' and what they came up with was so good that even the directors decided, 'nah, no modifications needed, this is definitely getting put in the final product. we'll find a way to explain it through, hallucinations or something.'

16:30 I do like that you pointed that out! I've been wonderig wether it was a good or a bad decision to make him so trusting, but from the way you put it, it sure sounds like the best way to end his character. Afterall, he was practically took in by those people for a bried moment so, even if he naturally had his doubts and walls up, I do believe that the simple fact that they seemed kind enough was just enough to make him lower his guard.

Forget playing devil's advocate. This is NOT all on you. Supermassive has the potential to do better, and your criticisms are exactly on point.

Always entertaining to watch your commentary and impressions, more than one hour of video gone in what felt like 20 minutes! With this game Capcom wanted to homage what's considered their most iconic and successful entry, RE4 and so there are lots of callbacks: The Merchant figure, weapon upgrade, and suitcase inventory where first introduced in RE4. A cult leader mind controlling the parasite hive mind of all village. The first swarm survival based fight in the village ending with the bell ringing is almost exactly the same. The general game flow is almost identical starting on the main village, moving to a castle, fighting a giant fish monster (Del Lago RE4, Moreau in 8) and finally ending on a factory/industrial setting (an island lab on the older game).... I feel exactly your way that the best sections were the first, as I felt when playing the original RE4, but they went beat to beat to pay homage to the very last bit.

Really loving your analysis of all supermassive and now RE games definetely binge worthy! I hope that you will continue the series with the remakes of all the oldest games of the franchise. Maybe it's because I was already acquainted with the serie viruses but the twist never got me, I mean yeah i couldn't exactly tell that he was fully dead, but since the first time he got that over the top regenerative abilities it was clear he was not fully human. I know that every main character survive the impossible and heals mortal wounds with "medkits" but there is difference between gameplay wounds and cutscene wounds, and Ethan shows his regeneration in cutscenes so they really happened in the story. Same goes for all the fuss around Mia dying in Village trailer, everyone lost their mind around killing a main character in the trailer like they forgot that you kill her 3 times just in the intro of RE7 and she is perfectly fine afterwards.

Great review soul, I haven’t played re8 yet but the doll house definitely seems like the most interesting part of the game, it seems super symbolic of the fears, thoughts and demons that are running through Ethan’s mind and haunting him as he assumes the worst has happened to rose and Mia. This section also reminds me a lot of the movies the conjuring and Annabelle lol. Nothing worse than creepy ass dolls coming to life and giant mutated crying babies… keep it up! 🎠

I gotta say the DLC was so good, the whole doll section was absolutely terrifying! Village is definitely a big switch from biohazard but I loved how almost campy it was and it is just a beautiful game. That shot when you first cross the ridge and see the castle is breathtaking. The character designs were great. Although I gotta give a shoutout to 7 for one thing: Despite 8 being a whole village, castle, factory and reservoir, 7 felt way more disorienting, giant and intimidating. 8 is huge but you always know where you are. 7‘s atmosphere is so suffocating I still panic and get lost in the main house. As for 9, I heard rumors that it’s not going to be about Rose; I always assumed it would since 8 ends with „and so the father‘s story ends“ (or something) which is worded so it implies that Rose and Mia's story continues. Also, trilogies etc. I get that Rose is too overpowered to be a main character now, which is why I was surprised she didn’t lose them in the DLC- I thought for sure 9 would be her getting them back. But I guess the mycete is gone too. I still hope 9 will continue the story, I wouldn’t mind playing Mia again, there’s still so much to tell about her. Also since 8 confirms every game is linked and Rose is now out there, it’d be pretty hard to just put all that asside and start a different story branch 🤔 Anyway: 🐴 (we still need answers about the Duke)

@heyfuturesoul 11 күн бұрын
Yeah sadly Rose is too overpowered to be the main character. I just hope she makes some sort of an appearance moving forward whether as a side character or just a brief mention, something. Following Mia would be cool because, as you said, there’s so much still to tell about her story and her pov of events! Some rumors I had heard was that Leon is going to be in RE9 (I’ve only played RE2 so idk how his story previously ended in the later games so I have no guess as to what his story might look like in RE9). I feel like Chris is most likely going to be the main character because of the ending of 8 and how he’s heading to BSAA. He’s mad, he’s looking for answers and revenge and I feel like it just makes the most sense to follow that story through but we’ll have to wait and see how it turns out but either way I’m excited and can’t wait to play it:) Also I love The Duke but I don’t think they’d expand on his story and character sadly.

Re: Donna and the flowers, as I understand it, it is both: Donna developed the ability to secrete a psychoactive substance as we learn in Mirandas dungeon, and we know the flowers had hallucinogenic properties from the start, but since Donna took them to the gardener and seemed excited they work and then told him to plant them and she would then show him his family, I think she developed a mold infected flower variant in her little laboratory and through the mold could then access the pollen. She kinda made her own mold network. Angie is the only thing that works apart from the flowers cause she had part of Donna’s cadou implanted, connecting them this way. The flowers being connected to Donna also makes sense since all those growing outside disappear after her death.

My biggest issue with the quarry is the unanswered aspects: My biggest is the epilogue, it shows a cop car and a govt agency car pull up…so fbi? cia? homeland security? How is their initial reactions to all this, why did they show up to all of this, how did they even show up when the phone lines been tampered with and there’s no phone service. Dependant on your outcome of who’s alive, all the councillors can be arrested for murder then acquitted 3 months later (hinted by the newspaper timestamps) and that has me like: okay give me some information on that, how do they adapt to the world after this event? More legal/court exposition?

Banger video! 🛥 I find Mel interesting because she's more anti-violence than Abby (mostly) but rational enough in the scene with Ellie and Tommy to know they're a threat if left alive. I personally don't think she'd be as willing to kill them both if she were the one to pull the trigger though. Moreover I think Mel also just wants to be happy with Owen, but it's hard to know your partner is more in love with their ex than with you when you're already pregnant with his child. Owen is the one she should really be mad at but she lashes out at Abby because that's easier. I think it also mirrors Dina's frustration and grief with Ellie when she leaves to kill Abby at the end, in the sense that both Mel and Dina just want their partners to let go of the past and move forward, hell they even both give an ultimatum.

I felt like the music was similar to what was done for The Casting of Frank Stone (which I enjoyed). With COFS, the entire storyline is wild and chaotic so the quirky music fits really well. The original Until Dawn soundtrack added so much suspense and tension to the storyline. I wish they kept some of the ominous music but overall, I didn't hate it.

I dont think you mentioned it in the video, but in the later parts of the game was a bit "too dark" for you? I have a thing with night vision but i missed alot of totems and clues because it was really hard to see thing in the darkness. I felt the lighting was better in the original.

as a dbd player i think this game was really terrible. i am yet to personally play until dawn and the quarry, but i've watched and been interested in the games. another bias is that i really don't like multiverse stories since no one can or will ever properly write infinity. i played through the game once and then haven't touched it since. biggest problem is that the story is incredibly boring: cop shoots some guy for no real reason > teens making low budget bad movie > get told off > plan to do it anyway > go buy camera > sneak in to film > get attacked by a ghost > game ends. augustine does nothing except be evil and then die. i do not care at all about frank stone and have no reason to. sam showed up, shoots him, and then he becomes an evil ghost and is the bad guy. no reason or explanation as to why i should care. bonnie and stan just die pointlessly with no way to save them. what's the point of "everyone survived" endings if not everyone can survive. maddie is kind of a baby, which i guess could be grief but regardless she sucks as a protagonist because we don't have any real reason to care about her. dbd lore-wise, i think it's even worse. dbd lore works because it doesn't really explain it. what's the entity? how is it powerful? what's going on? well just forget about it, no one cares, you can play as and against michael myers. dead by daylight lore works best as individual one-shots for every characters' backstory that fans can dream about. none of these characters will be added or be important to dbd, especially since releases are already kinda backed up. additionally, frank stone being super boring kills any interest. i thought he was supposed to be an alternate version of the trapper or something similar? even still, he's kind of a nothing character with no reason to be a killer (no power, nothing unique about him). the ending is AWFUL in that perspective because, why are they becoming survivors going into the trials? this is a worse ending for them as characters than just straight up dying? either kill them or they become trapped in an eternal cycle of death and torture. i'm hoping when i play through untill dawn and the quarry they are not as terrible of an experience

Good point about Chris, and I wouldn't even call it a nitpick; The majority of Josh's scheme entails torturing Chris (more than the people more directly involved), and that would be weird if he was innocent. After all, as best friends, Chris would have had a whole year to clear that up. On the idea that he's being inclusive so Ashley doesn't feel bad, I mean okay, I guess, but I don't know if I'd like someone enough to claim ownership of another person's murder that I had nothing to do with it. That's insane

From what I’ve seen, I think that’s Josh’s way of getting Chris and Ashley together. I believe Josh has a line about Chris and Ashley needing a traumatic experience to get them together. Though I haven’t played the game myself so I could definitely be wrong about that.

It was interesting going from Master Assassin's video on this and seeing how different your opinions were - for example he said that he felt the blue tint always being on the screen even during Sam's arrival scene made the game better (it brings forth the feeling of being cold up on the mountain and sets the tone early, which I can get behind). He also said that he didn't like the new intro sequence because it felt generic while the old one felt ominous (I'm so-so on this, I don't play many video games so it feel unique to me). The final point that I found your differing of particular note was O Death, he sounded as furious as a monotone can sound about it's removal (while I personally don't mind the new song it will always have the stigma of being the song that replaced O Death, and also just that O Death speaks to Hannah's story and the new song doesn't (I can't remember it's name lol))

Great video❤ I agree with a lot of your points. It was a huge drawback finding out they couldn't keep the original score and sounds for the remake. The wendigos have always been my favourite part of until dawn! Their original screeches never failed to put me on edge, especially when they would put a distant screech that would ramp up tension in the upcoming scene for a character who hadn't seen them yet. It is such a shame that new players will miss out on that truly defining feature of the wendigos. When I heard about actors returning to film I was so hoping that Matt & Jessica's actors would be there. As i feel like all the original really missed was more time with Matt & Jessica slowly escaping the mines together at the end. I got the platinum trophy for the original ps4 version, and was ready to do it all again with the remake, however graphic changes, a few additional collectibles, and a secret ending for Josh (as much as it is a fan letter ending) just isn't worth it for me. If it is ever on sale or free on ps plus, then I will pick it up☺️

At first I was surprised and a little heartbroken when Joel died, but then I remembered something He old Ellie in the first game. After the escape the office building through the subway Ellie told Joel and Tess you guys are pretty good at this. Joel said It's called luck, and it is going to run out. Joel did prepare her for how how harsh this world is now. Joel knew one day someone would probably come after him. Im glad Tommy had his back. Ellie saved Joels life in Pittsburgh PA. If she wasmt there he would have died. Whether Joel wanted her oround or not he was teacher her everyday how to survive.

Love Ashley, glad they redid that scene. I had my own headcannon for it but it was really hard to defend with the way they framed it. Still hate Emily though, Ive seen that scene with her apologizing, I didnt know it was preorder only. I think my only issue with Sam is just that she is the character with the least amount of depth. She's a badass dont get me wrong but she's kind of a Mary-sue. But as you said I think it's probably because she's the one most likely to have survived.

the reason why im ok with sam being a bigger focus in a sequel is i think she had the second biggest investment in the game. she is the one who has been keeping up with josh checkin in on him. my biggest thing was. josh pranked the three people who had less involvement in the prank that killed his sister

🎶 if Sam were to return in a sequel, i would love to see her in more of a mentor role, like the flamethrower guy. Maybe the main cast could be a bunch of new characters who engage with the monsters in new and different ways (and maybe have their own "non-supernatural" threat going on, like Josh was in the first game). Sam could appear at one point and only allude to the events of the original game as something tragic, that way leaving more combinations of endings as potentially canon.

I mean... I've always said it and I'm happily saying it again: I don't think the devs of DBD have it in them to create a whole story like that. And The Casting of Frank Stone is the best example for it. When it comes to character descriptions and fun little backround stories, that's fine, but I don't think writing a whole, consecutive story is fully their thing ^^' Which is fine for DBD in general, it's just a bit sad for this game. Most of this game feels rushed and weirdly implemented

I basically agree with everything you mentioned in this review except for the stuff about Sam being a poor choice as a main character for a sequel. Now do I necessarily think this game needs a sequel? Not really lol... In general I think that sequels are never as good as the original and often can feel like pointless cash grabs. But that being said I think if there is a sequel in the works, Sam is honestly the only character it makes sense to focus on for it! She's a well liked character, not overly complex but she has that typical Bad Ass Hollywood Hero vibe going on which is great for a protagonist imo! Plus if they're going the route of having her being traumatised by the events (which was hinted at in one of her interview segments at the end of the game where she insisted she was fine when the interviewer tried to get her to open up, mirroring Josh's own refusal to admit how much his sister's disappearances affected him) I think we could actually get a really intriguing side to her character! Mike or Emily are great characters but they really wouldn't have worked as a protagonist for the potential sequel imo (especially when Sam is so much more intertwined with the Washingtons than any of the other characters, except arguably Chris)... But yeh other than that totally agree with your thoughts, I was really excited when I heard about the remake but it honestly kinda feels like they rushed a lot of the details which is crazy given they've had 9 years to work on it lol...
