A lot of people completely slate this game, I appreciate you highlighting the positives. For me, I felt Madison had some uncomfortable scenes making her vulnerable, and it felt a bit too exploitative of the game's only female character. But this was one of the first narrative based games I played and it definitely experimented with new things

I played it when it was a game of the month for the Playstation Plus, I remember it wasn't my first game in this style, as I had played Wolf Among Us by Telltale before then. I remember that the story was really intense for me, myself being a traumatised dad going through a lot of mental turmoil at the time and the subject of child death makes me feel really upset in general. I remember doing all endings for the achievements. I remember mostly enjoying it, but hating some of the mechanics, specially the odd QTEs and the sudden camera changes, but I also remember it wasn't using moon logic for its puzzles, which was something I kind expected since this is basically a point and click 3D adventure game. Though I do remember the game being extremely annoying in the sense that sometimes it just straight up either lied to you to preserve its story, or forced a story point in a way that doesn't work at all.

🕶️🔍🕵️ I find Heavy Rain to be my favorite David Cage game (mostly due to the Neo Noir/Mystery Story, more silly moments (I think it’s why Until Dawn also thrives, because they can let down the serious tones while Detroit: Become Human and The Dark Pictures Anthology don’t, which makes them a little stiff in story), and the fact all the characters get a even amount of gameplay (for the most part). Not the best, but I like a fun flawed game over a almost perfect serious game. A big of Jank is good for a game.

On Norman not having a "good" ending that doesn't result in the ARI hallucinations: I could've sworn there _was_ an ending for Norman without this if you spent very little time played as Norman with the glasses on. I may be experiencing Mandela Effect, but I was positive if you basically rushed every scene Norman has glasses on, you could get a different ending.

The manfred thing is so stupid and makes absolutely no sense. It actually ruins the games story because it’s impossible for him to do that and doesn’t really make sense for him to call the cops on himself. It’s one reason why I think the Scott Shelby twist is terrible. And also when Norman fights the origami killer in Pacos apartment the killer is skinner and a different body type than Scott. And like you said how does Scott have so much money. Also Scott’s motivation changes based on how many people are alive. If it’s only Ethan I’m pretty sure he lets you shoot him but if you have others alive he tries to shoot you and doesn’t wanna go to prison. Then the games treatment of Madison is…questionable at best.

Great video as always!

I learned things I've never heard about from this video! Especially as such an old game as a pioneer to this genre, I'd say it holds up in that aspect (despites its story flaws etc) As long as you can enjoy the gameplay experience now I'd say it's a good game! I remember being a kid and being hooked into this game and I thought it was the most profound story telling and twist ever lol

I must admit, I'm really interested to know what your thoughts on beyond two souls is. I liked heavy rain, liked detroit become human and absolutely despised the one in between. It's one of the few games I've put down and decided 'nah, I'm done with this'. There's just something about the way it's structured that left me wondering why I should care about the outcomes of most of the chapters.🕶

I enjoyed this when i first played it about 6-7 years ago on ps3, but i agree with nearly everything you say about it here. Still a good game, but i will never replay it. I really like your videos *chef's kiss

Heavy Rain was my first introduction to the Interactive movie genre and I loved it when I first played the PS3 version. As I have gotten older there are several plot points that don't hold up or go nowhere like: Ethan' blackouts Scott Shelby's thoughts (early in the game) - I try to let this slide a little because obviously the writers can't give away that Shelby is the Origami Killer at the start of the game. Sadly a lot of Shelby's resources to be the killer don't make sense. I do like Shelby' motivation for being the killer because it reminds me of a Criminal Minds episode. I like Madison, but I do not feel that the romance between her and Ethan is well developed or written. Getting all the endings for the trophy was really boring!

I played this game a few weeks ago and I did love it but it definitely wasn’t a masterpiece like Detroit become human the story was a bit confused and the twist wasn’t the best I would have just left out the mad jack and the doc stories because they are a bit random as villains I do hope they release the game as a remake one day and add more things to make it better
@AllenGray475 ай бұрын
Thats what remakes and reboots should do, take underperforming media and fix the issues with it. I know money and clout drive remaking good stuff, but I'm sure folks would be on board for a cleaner and tighter narrative and controls from this story.

I played Heavy Rain at the beginning of this year just because it was in a cheap bundle with Beyond: Two Souls. But honestly? I enjoyed this game so much on my first playthrough that I played it over a weekend. So seeing a Heavy Rain video made me hyped up fr fr. For me, during the gameplay it was mostly flawless, scrumptious and everything you can imagine. But after thinking there are quite the flaws that I found myself bothering me. I didn't like how Madison was introduced - not talking about the fight sequence anymore. Her being introduced an hour into the game was a little weird. Scott and Jayden were already in Ethan's story, but Paige appeared suddenly and we are supposed to sympathise with her. Ok, maybe I would feel more connected to her if we didn't get an immediate flash of her breast. I know PEGI18, so why should I bother, but still - such a flat first look at a character that is really interesting as the story goes on and she stops being so glued to Ethan and goes on her own investigation. As much as I love the thoughts mechanic in the game it does not make a sense during another playthrough. I 100%'ed the game on PS4, so I had to restart from multiple scenes or even from the beginning. But I still was replaying the thoughts of the characters. But Scott Shelby has this one problem - some of the thoughts does not make sense. He is the Origami Killer, so he shouldn't be bothered to think about some things. Is he breaking the 4th wall? If so… why??? There could be a small chance of foreshadowing, but as you said - this game is 14 years old, this was still beginning of that type of games. Overall - I still recommend this game to my friends, because without any spoilers this game is a very special experience - even just to see how far the game industry came in the case of "butterfly effect" games. But still - you can't say that the English voice acting isn't quite funny and out of place. For anybody still reading a small trivia - in Polish version Scott is voiced by the same voice actor as Polish Skipper from Penguins of Madagascar, so that made me feel more connected to Scott and take him with a grain of salt - making the plottwist quite more impactful to me. In conclusion - I really enjoyed your video, just like few other of your work from this channel, and keep up the good work :D

I found it distracting how you kept mispronouncing "Origami Killer". It's actually pronounced "Ohr-reh-gam-ee Kilar". 😎
