Whoa wow we had a sounds unlimited and Hamilton also operated by Mr Chisholm I know the old man very well and I made his son a timer to I also went to the place in Cullman which I'm assuming is where you went wow that's great man and I know Mr Chisholm used to always care a lot of MTX equipment man I was by there every day or two after school man he was a true friend I bought my.second MTX 10s from him and My first MTX amp. That's so cool man. Also my first trip was the S-10 for everybody you mentioned My second was Ford ranger like you mentioned in my third was a Toyota which actually had the most room.

I never could afford subs back then, but I did go to the Crutchfield store in 92 to get my 1st amp and some Pioneer 3ways in the plastic housing. Ran it off walkman with a DYI 3.5mm to RCA adapter.

Definitely a starter amp, but there is that niche market. Basically, I See this amp as a door speaker amplifier. I guess you could play around with a single 4 ohm impedance entry level sub (budget rubber surround hopefully at least a 2" voice coil); in a little bit oversized sealed enclosure. I think the awg 14 power and ground wire power feed does hold back this amps ultimate performance along ,with the fact the dyno test of 20 amps through a 15 amp fuse. The wiring may be limiting the amp as a engineered protection feature that also limits its performance. The circuit board is pretty well designed, in the absence of jumper wires and such but that is a common thing today. For an entry level start, I think your wa 500 4 channel amp would be a better starter amp, which would be integrated into their sound system as a keeper to eventually do door and 6x9 speakers. Great video as always 👍. 73 GOD bless Earnest K5EWM 👍.

In 1992 I traded two² MTX terminator 10s for a M & M Godfather 18" To my older brother. I had a 1985 Mercury Cougar XR7 that we shoe horned that Godfather into. Saved up and bought a Lanzar opti drive, hooked to the 18" and bounced around for about 2 yrs. Traded later for Altec Lansing 12s.

Back in late 80's early 90s i was 18-20 yrs old . The second set subs was mtx magnums 10" on a pyrimid amp for one season. Upgraded subs an amp , lanzar 12" free air ,and sentrec amp 125×125. Wired in a Dodge Dakota truck. I did like mtx stuff, but as i learned about car audio, i tried different brands. As like you i only had a job part time ,small pay checks from kroggers , an painted apartments couple days a week ,between both jobs i earned about 200- 250 dollars a week, so money was tight an makeing truck pmt. Saved up an purchased a kenwood deck. Thanks for sharing.

MTX was always decent gear, ratings usually spot on. It would have been about 10yrs after you but my MTXs was a set of thunder6000 12s which actually hit pretty good. Friends had Road thunders and the 4000s we played around with. I live in a big-time buggy area many have stereo systems, mostly Rockford from what I've seen and they jam.

Strange...this amp sounds the exact same as the last amp you tested... Love my KEF C Series powered by my Nakamichi 110W/channel amp shop theater system. Man, we must be the same age, Junior in 92'. Your video woke up some nostalgia for sure, my first sub was a JBL Power 10" in 6th order enclosure put in the trunk of my 1976 Chevy Nova, damn good times for sure. Thinking that was right around 1990 if I remember right, can't remember what I paid for it new, but sure remember those $80 paychecks making $4.15 per hour, yuck! Got me a new amp in the mail yesterday, can't wait to get it fired up and see what it'll do to my CT Sounds Meso component set. Thanks for the memory wake-up and the amp of course. 🦾

I was 24 in 91 😂😂. I remember MTX very well. I started with a pair of 8" road thunder boxes in my brand new S10. The same year I upgraded to a pair of 10" road thunder 2 boxes. My best friend had a pair of I think 12 inch Road Thunder pros, and when the 12" Blue Thunders came out that same year, I had to have them lol. I sold off and bought a lot of MTX that year lol 😂😂😂 I had a 77 T.A. also but it was all Kenwood.

"Junior" in 92?? I graduated high school that year! 😅 If ya ask me, best times for car audio. Never had a "Buds" but we had a local place that did all our car audio called "Automaina." They are still in business here but a shadow of what they used to be. This is another great video, as you probably know, Im not in the market for an amp anymore...I watch these for purely intertainment purposes now. BTW, God bless you. (The sneeze) 😆

A clip light on the bass knob really makes this a great choice for beginners looking for a budget amp. Someone new has an easy way to monitor the amp without needing to know too much. Light on = bad. Keep light off. For people who are already on a budget this will save tons of money and help get people into car audio and not just push them away on their first build. Not incredibly efficient though.

You won’t get much info on Orion’s website. No T/S parameters on any speakers, no rms ratings on any Cobalt amp. Half the product pages I looked at are empty. Coming soon it says… for the past two years. 😂 Tried to contact them more than 10 times to get info on stuff and they never respond. I will stick with Hybrid Audio and get real sound quality. Orion is pretty much junk except for the HCCA amps. Their business model is flea market worthy.

The point of class ab is the way it sounds. You need to listen to it to understand it’s strength. Class ab and class d should not be compared on the dyno. Nuance.
