I have been listening for 50 years about how relevant "Gold & Silver" is. Mostly from people who sell it. The bottom line is this. Until the manipulation of the Gold & Silver Markets comes to an end. Then nothing will change, period. So you can talk all you want but it means nothing.

I am totally sold on the gold story . However I am not convinced by the no counterparty risk angle. Yes, if you take delivery of gold and bury it in the garden or put it in a safe on your own property, then I agree. In reality most people will not do this for fear of theft. The alternative is to entrust someone to hold it on your behalf (a vault, safety deposit box etc.) . Doesn't that entity then become your counterparty risk?
@andreast.8243Сағат бұрын
Yes, which is why many contracts are exercised to deliver gold to minimize risk. They want to have it delivered to themselves so that they would store it in a place they'd trust

Involving a counter party, naturally incurs counter party risk? :)

Bubble would be bigger in dollar terms because currency has been be valued by 98%. Gold and silver have not kept up but there will be a real revaluation of gold. Governments may be forced into going back to a gold standard like system.

Macleod makes the cogent point that every bubble bursting we have had up till now is about making sure no one fails. Now, when I hear this, I interpret it as current owners of capital don't fail. So there is this unholy union between the current owners of capital and the politicians, judges, and enforcers. I understand this isn't lost on Macleod, or anyone who has explored it. Rothbard says the two culprits of conspiracy are Big Government and Big Business. Isn't there something inconsistent with expecting the market (peaceful cooperation) to address what are fundamentally violent processes? And as a second question, how can we expect the wealthy, as a class, not to just consistently co-opt a State? I wish more about the accountability of gold was being discussed more frequently. If we go back to chopping off hands and debtors prisons, it's gonna be a net negative, I believe.
@seeker21186 сағат бұрын
Well the only entity that can regulate capital (the wealthy class) is the government. The issue is that the government, unlike sovereigns are public servants, meaning they are behooven to capital so they can be bought and sold by those who control capital. So how can there be regulations when the regulators are bought and controlled by those they were intended to regulate?

What's worth noting - 0% of Russia's GDP depends on the US. They are a serious geoeconomic player in the next half century (thanks to Ukraine war forcing them to sink or swim). For some reason not underestimating our adversaries so we don't get screwed is seen as being advocating for them.

If Trump was serious about reforming income tax he wouldn't talk about eliminating it with tariffs (won't happen). He would insist on a reasonable flat tax. That's what most of us want, and it's the best we can hope for.

The reason the world continues to use the dollar is because dollar denominated debt is the least expensive most reliable currency in the entire world. This video is almost over, Brent why haven't you made this point? If there was a less expensive form of debt they would commit to it. Good grief Charlie Brown. It is though all three of you are myopic! Borrow in any other currency and the dollar will significantly go away. Gold nor Bitcoin cannot do any of this because they do not have a bond market backing them up and they never will.

One point missed in this talk. Sanctions and other weaponization of the dollar push some countries away from the dollar, but it pushes some countries closer towards the US and dollar. Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Canada, Mexico and arguably Europe and other countries have all moved closer to the US and away from China and more likely to continue the USD system since increase dollar weaponization. That is more of the world's GDP than BRICS countries.

Brent is correct in this debate. People expecting a global de-dollarizations are thinking in terms of wishes, but ignore the constrains. As Brent describes, for system-wide de-dollarization to take place, you'd need a MASSIVE degree of defaults globally, since pretty much all international debt contracts in the world are nominated in dollars. So, we have two options: 1) either lenders world wide issue a global jubilee (not gonna happen), or 2) debtors gotta keep hunting for dollars to pay off their loans, which paradoxically keeps the dollar in demand. Everybody wants to de-dollarize, but wishes are not enough... the constrains of the system (the euro-dollar paradigm) are too entrenched to allow it to happen without massive chaos.

She needs to explain why this wouldn't happen again with her Bond proposal. Default of the Fourth Liberty Bond The first three Liberty bonds, and the Victory Loan, were retired during the course of the 1920s. However, because the terms of the bonds allowed them to be traded for the later bonds which had superior terms, most of the debt from the first, second, and third Liberty bonds was rolled into the fourth issue. The terms of the bond included: "The principal and interest hereof are payable in United States gold coin of the present standard of value. This type of "gold clause" was common in both public and private contracts of the time, and was intended to guarantee that bond-holders would not be harmed by a devaluation of the currency. However, when the US Treasury called the fourth bond on April 15, 1934, it defaulted on this term by refusing to redeem the bond in gold, and neither did it account for the devaluation of the dollar from $20.67 per troy ounce of gold (the 1918 standard of value) to $35 per ounce. The 21 million bond holders therefore lost 139 million troy ounces of gold, or approximately 41% of the bond's principal.

When someone explaining dedollarization and monetary systems uses terms like "earthlings" or "here on planet earth," I think to myself, WTF? Beware the stories being told & sold. The youtube channels and podcasts are driving narratives that people fall into without true understanding. I have lived long enough to see many cycles and have witnessed narratives go right down the drain. Since 2009, I've seen a lot of stories spinning from the "smart money/guys." It's good to listen to learn new stuff, but don't believe most of it because it's someone selling their bull%&t.
