Born and raised in Danville. A sad sad story of the times changing. General Electric left, Esco, General Motors,Caterpillar, Windbreaker, Chuckles and the loss of the strip mines. Now Quaker Oats is gone. Jobs that haven't been replaced. Add too that Richard Daley's gentrification of Chicago that send thousands of Urban Section 8 housing families into Central Illinois. Add to the mix absentee landlords and city government not prepared to handle these challenges. A once wonderful place to grow up as you so ineloquently put it in your last video an " armpit"

Lived in the apartments at Broadway and Division ‘85-‘87. Bought a house in Riverdale at the ripe old age of 27 in ‘87. Good credit score and a decent job and I qualified for an FHA loan. A seeming improbability for that age (and older) these days, sadly. Thanks for the drive around, Chris.

5:40 What used to be a pretty large steel mill can be seen. My Father worked there many years ago. Before I was born. It was called Wyman-Gordon. Also went to Gordon Elementary School when I was young. I never put those two things together before. Might just be coincidence.

43:36 as someone who has lived in that area for a while, i dont think that corner store is going to be in business again which sucks because i used to head up there with my brothers when we were kids. I heard that the owner has no plans to sell it but for some reason it doesn't look like he has done any work on renovating it either. I could be wrong tho and hopefully he has done some rhings to get the store working again
