What a terrible business practice to release a version 1 only a year ago and then release a version 2 so soon after without a free upgrade. Steep upgrade price from Transit 1 to Transit 2 on desktop. No upgrade path from IOS Transit 1 to Transit 2. We still can’t save our own presets in the IOS version. It now looks like we were wrong to be early adopters. Terrible cash grab and a warning to all! Buyers beware!
@GourlieRecords2 күн бұрын
I feel you, especially since it's only been a year, typically you might see a paid upgrade around the 3-5 year mark rather than the first. However I do feel the original Transit was already well worth it and considering these changes have essentially doubled its functionality I don't mind paying $30 for what is essentially a ginormous expansion pack. This no doubt has upset a lot of people though especially since this is on the higher end of the price point for FX plugins. I'm sure going forward Baby Audio will dial this in based on feedback. If they release more features I personally hope they come bundled with this version. If you reach out to them about the IOS upgrade I'm sure they can work that out (I actually didn't even know there was a specific IOS version).

Can dubler 2 take in multiple mics and does it allow you to add more midi notes to send?
@GourlieRecords14 күн бұрын
No it's a single input and can only listen to one MIDI note at a time. It can generate chords though so you could use that MIDI data to send the lowest note to one destination and the highest note to a second. Depending on your DAW there might be tools available to do this (there is a chord splitter for Ableton Live that's a Max for Live device, for instance).
@pleaseandthankyou416114 күн бұрын
@@GourlieRecords Thanks for sharing. I think it’s a bit ambitious of me to try and convert every sound of a drum kit to midi using mics instead of a piezo triggers. I don’t think there is software to do this live. The person who creates this will immediately capture 100% of the electronic drum kit market and get filthy rich. No need for anyone to bang on rubber pads or cymbals. All you’d need is mesh heads and low volume cymbals that are AI trained and assigned a midi note.
@euyin0120 күн бұрын
Basically, Opal is a close approximation to the Elektron sequencer workflow for designing tracks that can be played with all the resources of Ableton Live for live performance. What more could you ask for? You don't need to use sound design in a live act when playing with Digitakt or Elektron Rytm but you do have some parameters to modulate on the fly, understanding the flow of the tracks and Song mode. That said, this is a great integration with Ableton Live.

@@GourlieRecords they bundled The Riser, BF... Drums? I haven't played with Hype much, but it does have loads of presets. I have Arturia Pigments, and all the knobs etc, is really daunting. Air may be on to something by not having a million knobs, and I wonder if Hype was Arturia branded if we'd have a different take on it. Air is often thought of as "cheap" but I'm a fan of them. I've bought a ton of their plugins (at MASSIVE discounts lol). I was demoing their Sub Factory, but Hype covers it. Hype is on sale for $29 right now. I think it's worth it for the price.

@@guitarforudude $30 is a good price for Hype cause you're right that there are lots of good presets. I think Air is often thought of as "cheap" only because they regularly put their $100+ plugins on sale for $10-15, but a lot of those plugins they do that with have been around for many years and often come bundled for free with other software.

Im looking at vector synths and this popped up. Would this be a better candidate than Rob Papen's Vecto for vector synthesis?
@GourlieRecordsАй бұрын
I've never heard of Vecto until you mentioned it but I just looked it up and watched some of the videos. I'd say they're fundamentally different in that Vecto uses more traditional synth-style oscillators as their sound source whereas CUBE uses sampled audio which gives it more versatility. Also CUBE can load up to 8 samples (include any of your own samples) at one time since it uses a 3-dimensional vector where as Vecto only has 4. I do have an EP dropping in the next couple of days which uses only CUBE and I'll have a video up on this to give you a better idea of the sound potential of CUBE. I think the main similiarities between the two are they both utilize a vector system which you can have prerecorded paths for. Otherwise upon initial vibes, it's my opinion that Vecto has more sonic comparisons to something like Cherry Audio's Dreamsynth than CUBE in terms of the sound it produces: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJW5nGSujbiXmdk

@GourlieRecords2 ай бұрын
I'd have to see what you're doing wrong to figure it out. Did you select a scale other than Chromatic and have the correction knob turned up? Otherwise you might hit Waves support for an answer. Also based on asking if you should use headphone or not, I'm assuming you maybe have a lot of background noise. If the mix is also in the same track as your vocal then it won't know what to do. You have to feed it a clean, monophonic signal for it to work.

Youre wrong about the flexibility of this synth. Been using it for a long time on my MPC and you can do a lot with it if you take the time to figure it out.
@GourlieRecords2 ай бұрын
That's the thing though, It's a great MPC app since the interface for the MPC is so tiny and a synth needs to be stripped down to its absolute basics to be programmable. But for their pricepoint as a VST on a compute (MSRP on their site is now $150), it has 10% the capability of pretty much any other synth at that tier. The main issue is the price point to functionality. It can no doubt make cool sounds but if you compare it to anything at that price point it's like comparing apples to a grocery store.
@ladyincarnate93142 ай бұрын
@@GourlieRecords I think you're probably being fair if you buy this as a stand alone VST. But given that this thing came free with the 2.1 update for MPC owners Im super happy with it. I get a lot of milage out of this synth. Plus you seem to have missed that if you want to build your own presets you need to start from the 'init' presets.

It sounds like you might have chosen a custom install location. If you’re not installing it in the default location with the rest of your plugins then you need to select your custom install location in your plugin settings within Ableton. Also you can rescan for plugins in this settings window as well.

The cotton batts are a great idea! Very underrated sound absorption material. I found cotton moving blankets at Home Depot a few weeks ago...apparently, they're so new that HD shipped them to me free. The blankets are about 1/16 - 1/8" thick, so 8 of them would be 1/2 - 1" thick, and there are 24 per pack. The blankets are 72 x 54, so you may be able to fold them to make them thicker. I had a distiller running in my basement kitchen and I put 6 of them in front of the cased opening, and the sound difference was amazing...way more sound attenuation than I got from several thick moving blankets.

I could see those being useful for mobile panels too like if you have a big open space but just want to dampen sound in a spot where you’re recording, you could even have various hooks in the ceiling to hang them from to make a modular sound dampening set up.

It’s much cheaper has WAY more functionality. The only thing that Roli has on the ERAE is that it’s fixed in a keyboard layout with raised keys so the haptic feedback is more familiar for piano players whereas the ERAE is totally flat. That said the flat surface allows you to configure the device however you want whether it’s a piano roll, drum pad, or MIDI knobs.

@GourlieRecords3 ай бұрын
As far as “performance it’s just opening up the decay and filter cutoff. In terms of the sequence you should be able to replicate by setting the knobs accordingly but one thing that is often overlooked with the Subharmonicon is the reset button. When building your sequence, turning the knobs while the sequence is running can often lead to patterns that sound good but don’t start on the first step of the sequencer beat, so when you turn the unit off and back on to start the sequence over, the start you may have been using in your head as the sequence start might not be the Subharmonicon’s actual first step, if that makes sense. I watched a lot of videos on this before buying and the alarming majority of content creators didn’t understand that element of the synth. Also when building this sequence I used the next and trigger buttons to tune each step individually to make sure they all played close to my desired scale, which I think was C minor. It’s a tricky synth but the creative exploration is mighty!

I was in college when they started. Besides I already have a ton of excellent efx plugins that sound way better than arturia. I really need the raw goodness from a soft synth emulation. The sounds need to take me back to my kidhood, otherwise it's a no go.

I'm using this Cherry MiniMoog to help me with my Moog emulator hardware, ie. Behringer Poly D useage and exploring and having some kind of "presets" to dial in to the no-presets hardware as someone who never did real synthesis much before. I love it and I love knowing I got the right one over the Arturia plugin in this case, since I'll add my own effects and needed to learn from good engineers the wide range of settings that sound good standalone on the Cherry. Maybe with a Juno 60 Chorus plugin since there's one on the Poly D!😆
@GourlieRecords4 ай бұрын
I think a "companion" app to use as a guide for presets on your hardware is a good idea. Once you tinker with it for a bit I'd be curious to know if you hear much of a difference between the software and your Poly D and if one sounds better than the other.
@OtterLakeFlutes4 ай бұрын
@@GourlieRecords I'll play some more ASAP and comment further. I have not done a fair side by side test of if the knobs are in exactly the same position, but when doing generally the same things, like a fat lead of a given shape & filter, or making it say "wow!", I can't tell a for sure quality difference at all. I thought maybe it was my imagination in wanting to compare Cherry takes through a couple types of very light compression emulating this or that analog equipment, next to the Poly D, but my ear isn't finely honed and I couldn''t tell yet. To be fair I'll run the Poly D through the same DAW and not just listen to headphones directly from the Poly D, comparing it to the soft synth through the UA-Volt 2 etc... both will be thru the Volt 2 to Reaper and I'll come back with links here and post it on a forum. I'm glad I have at least one analog subtractive synth but it makes me realize what an amazing time this is for soft synths and fx. I'm loving the Wasp analog, free, called Stinger by Ian Webster (Krakli). The first preset called Bee Venom or whatever, lol, is fantastic for a Barbarella-sounding lead!
