I am an original 72 Minimoog owner, and back then we ALWAYS wanted it to be polyphonic! Otherwise, I’d prefer the panel to pretty much reflect the original. Played live with my MiniMoogs for about 20yrs. I usually see the simulations fail when it comes to running the filter into oscillation & modulating it in that mode. *** I’d like to see the waveforms of all the VST competitors compared on an oscilloscope. I'm using this Cherry MiniMoog to help me with my Moog emulator hardware, ie. Behringer Poly D useage and exploring and having some kind of "presets" to dial in to the no-presets hardware as someone who never did real synthesis much before. I love it and I love knowing I got the right one over the Arturia plugin in this case, since I'll add my own effects and needed to learn from good engineers the wide range of settings that sound good standalone on the Cherry. Maybe with a Juno 60 Chorus plugin since there's one on the Poly D!😆
@GourlieRecords7 ай бұрын
I think a "companion" app to use as a guide for presets on your hardware is a good idea. Once you tinker with it for a bit I'd be curious to know if you hear much of a difference between the software and your Poly D and if one sounds better than the other.
@OtterLakeFlutes7 ай бұрын
@@GourlieRecords I'll play some more ASAP and comment further. I have not done a fair side by side test of if the knobs are in exactly the same position, but when doing generally the same things, like a fat lead of a given shape & filter, or making it say "wow!", I can't tell a for sure quality difference at all. I thought maybe it was my imagination in wanting to compare Cherry takes through a couple types of very light compression emulating this or that analog equipment, next to the Poly D, but my ear isn't finely honed and I couldn''t tell yet. To be fair I'll run the Poly D through the same DAW and not just listen to headphones directly from the Poly D, comparing it to the soft synth through the UA-Volt 2 etc... both will be thru the Volt 2 to Reaper and I'll come back with links here and post it on a forum. I'm glad I have at least one analog subtractive synth but it makes me realize what an amazing time this is for soft synths and fx. I'm loving the Wasp analog, free, called Stinger by Ian Webster (Krakli). The first preset called Bee Venom or whatever, lol, is fantastic for a Barbarella-sounding lead!

Trying to figure if I should get cherry audio Lowdown vs miniverse for bass
@GourlieRecords10 ай бұрын
Miniverse without a doubt. Lowdown is my least favorite synth they’ve made. It’s a fun nostalgic thing they had but the synth it was modeled after was cool mostly because it had foot pedals so it allowed you to play bass with your feet and keep your hands free. While Lowdown is an honest recreation, the sound capability is limited because it’s an extremely slimmed down synth. Miniverse you can make all the sounds you can with Lowdown plus many more. It has more oscillators and knob functionality making it far more versatile. The Minimoog it’s modeled off of is one of the most legendary synths of all time.

It's a modulation patch I throw on just for background effects. It's taking an LFO signal and sending it to both wave shapes with one being inverted. I'm glad someone pointed it out. It always appreciates a nice wave back, helps it stay warmed up and in tune 🙃

Cherry Audio are audio monsters. The biggest problem we have with their stuff is the CPU. Depending on what we need to do we sometimes just sample out patches to Kontakt. A nice trick with their stuff is layering it with the same patch on another manufacturer VSTs emulation of the same original hardware... you get some sick thick sounds.

Poly really shows how bad that the Arturia one is at emulating real analog instability. Their TAE engine has been updated though, because the Jupiter/Juno/OB sounds way better and has controls to control the amount of instability making it feel more analog. Either way, if Cherry would just make an Analog Lab style front it, they would own the market.
@GourlieRecords2 жыл бұрын
I agree they are much better at analog emulation. I know there are plenty of people who disagree but at the end of the day, Arturia sets out to make a whole array of software and hardware so their focus is more diluted across many disciplines whereas Cherry Audio spends 100% of their time solely working on analog emulation. And the results are 👌
@lorenmorgan19312 жыл бұрын
@@GourlieRecords Well Arturia, they have TAE, which is kind of garbage. Cherry is actually building a product that can compete directly with Arturia, and will blow it out of the water. I do hope Cherry learns from Arturias mistakes and continues to fine tune stuff without trying to call it "upgrade to Jupiter V4"

I just purchased Minimode this morning. You mentioned that Cherry Audio recreated the functionality of Mini Moog D. Is there a way to edit the pitch bend? I play solos a lot, and I cannot find a way to edit the pitch bend range to two steps, the default for the software is 8. Is there a way to edit it to 2 steps?
@GourlieRecords2 жыл бұрын
Good question but it doesn’t appear so. The original was 8 semitones so they cloned that. You’ll have to just learn how far to bend for 2 or else use glide. You could assign the glide button to a MIDI button to quickly turn it on and off when you want to pitch bend. Or assign a a knob/slider to the oscillator pitch to only increase a max of 2 semitones.

@GourlieRecords2 жыл бұрын
True. 😝 Depends what the goal is, I suppose. In some cases like on the Mini V, they've added a lot of features but they're in a separate panel so as to retain the look of the Minimoog. But in doing this the interface is a bit more clunkier than if they just designed their own synth from scratch. If the features get too rich then it would be better to not worry about the original design but rather making an entirely new synth so that the GUI is smoother and have less menu-diving

I don’t think most people out there get Arturia’s as a single plug. Most people just get the v-collection which added up becomes much cheaper per plug. Plus, if you don’t want the effects, just turn them off.
@GourlieRecords2 жыл бұрын
That's how I got it. The V-Collection is an amazing collection and a staple for any library. That's why I focused on it as a comparison. For any product to even be able to compare to that collection is a testament in and of itself! But its price point is a significant barrier to entry for some who might only want a couple of emulations which is where one-offs become more affordable.
@Magnus_Loov Жыл бұрын
Yup. So I think the biggest competitor to Minimode isn't Arturias Mini-V but Synapse Legend or Softubes Model-72. Both are almost perfect emulations (according to the great shootout that Starsky Carr did). But as all emulations the fail on overdrive. But for the rest, they were almost undistinguishable from the real hardware Minimoog he had. Even FM sounds were very similar. Not so for the Minimode, although it is still very, very good value for the money.
@AboveEmAllProduction2 жыл бұрын
Oh! Another model d emulation. Wonderful. Can't wait to add it to my other 4-5 moogs I already have - _- why can't these companies do something new got damn everything is moog prophet and junos these days
@GourlieRecords2 жыл бұрын
They released Dreamsynth as their previous drop which was a brand new, unique synth. They also sell an ever-expanding modular setup with community made modules which is pretty cool. They also have a few emulations that I don't see many other companies doing like the MG-1 and MS-20 and their pricing is super fair. But I can see what you mean about a lot of companies releasing some of the same stuff. Everyone wants a piece of the pie I suppose but it would be nice to see a wider variety of recreations. I think the Model D given its minimal modulations is probably one of the easiest to make for companies. IMO Cherry Audio is one of the best for analog emulations though so I was stoked about their rendition and commitment to keep it a 1 to 1. Hoping to see a Moog Grandmother emulation come out next 🤞

Questioning how you got that. I am messing with it now comparing it to Legend while its not 1:1 its still a great sounding VST. Either way, did you actually try this thing?
