Youngin, I did not hear the word Drake, nor did I hear Johnson. But what I really didn't hear was the word Browning!!!! The only radio worth owning on this list was the Robyn ;)
@RaccoonsRadioRanch7 күн бұрын
That's because Drakes, Johnson and Browning radios are much easier to find than the radios in this video are . Drakes wouldn't have been in this video because this is about cb radios that are hard to find . But if you go watch the "Top 10 Vintage CB Radios" video , you'll see the Browning radios in that video . There's also a "Top 10 Vintage Ham Radios" video that has Drake radios in it. You should go check those two videos out , you might like those videos . Thanks for watching and for the comment . I greatly appreciate it .

I am rather excited, I have a cousin that purchased the "President Lincoln 2 plus" missing the large print on the box "Amateur Radio". He's a truck driver and by the time he noticed it wasn't the older CB he remembered, lets just say its still new in the box. The other day we chatted about my Tech / HAM call sign and he is mailing it to me. Really appreciate your video, it helped me understand more about the unit and looking forward to receiving it.

I'm glad that you liked the video. I like the Lincoln II Plus , it's a nice radio. It's not like the original HR-2510 , or the original Lincoln that President made . But it's still a good radio.

Where is the CB radio action ? i live in Woodbury Tn.
@RaccoonsRadioRanch7 күн бұрын
I hear a lot of skip all around the band ... mostly on channels 6 , 11 , 28 and 38 lsb . So you should be able to find someone on those channels . But it looks like you're in a fairly small town . So you might have to start getting some of your friends interested in CB radio too, help them find the right equipment , and get set up . Then pick a good channel for all of you to hang out on . Then you'll start getting some local action in your area too.

Does the 897 and 897b both say 897 on the front panel? If so how would I know the difference?
@RaccoonsRadioRanch10 күн бұрын
Yes , they do both say "FT-897" on the face of them. The original FT-897 didn't have the 60 meter band in it because it wasn't available yet during the designing stages of it. The FT-897D added the 60 meter band to it, as well as a temperature-controlled crystal oscillator (TCXO-9) which was only optional on the original FT-897. So to be honest , you really can't tell them apart by just looking at them, you'd have to operate one to find their differences ... or know about when they were manufactured. I bought mine 3 months before they were discontinued so mine is definitely the 897D.

Ahh the days of CB glory i was there as a young teen in the 70s. My best friend and i put up CB and TV antennas, towers, rotors, we even saved enough for our first radios. We both became electrical engineers, CB helped us turn a hobby into a career. Even the movies glorified CB in the day. Today i am an amature radio operator in medical retirement. Give radio a try guys and gals, it can be a great hobby/career!! By the way my first CB was a bright orange Sony Walkie-Talkie (H/T) with 2 watt output, later my first base station was a Teaberry. My good friend Sherman had a Realistic base station.

I first became interested in CB radio in the 70s , when I was 10 years old . Listening to my parents and their friends talking on the radio every night . That's a look I wish the radio companies would bring back again , but at the same time , with the LCD screens and the menus ... I don't think it would be the same .

I’m confused. What’s the difference between the Stryker SR~955HP & the Stryker SR-955HPC? According to Stryker’s web site there is no difference, but why the different labels?
@RaccoonsRadioRanch2 ай бұрын
I've asked myself the same thing , and what I found when I researched it online is that according to Stryker they've only made an SR-955HPC , and over the years they made a few upgrades to that . So there's a Version 1 , and a Version 2 of the HPC . But "They're saying" (not me) that there's never been a Stryker SR-955HP version , only the SR-955HPC version .

Honestly , I really like the Yaesu FT-897d , and yes I would recommend it to anyone . They did discontinue the 897 shortly after I bought mine . So if you want one you'll have to buy a used one some place like QRZ.com , QTH.com , or on eBay. If you would like to buy one new, they are still making the mobile version of this radio , which is the Yaesu FT-857 , also a really good radio.

@@RaccoonsRadioRanch Thank you for the reply and information on the Carolina Windom antenna. Is there a setting on the 897D that I must set to operate the Z-11? I can't find anything on it. It doesn't seem to make a difference in the amp setting. I just left it to "Off". There isn't a "LAMP" setting like on other Yaesu models.
@RaccoonsRadioRanch2 ай бұрын
@@Matt-qq8dh you just run your antenna to your Z-11 , an then a patch cord from the Z-11into the HF coax hook-up on the back of your 897 . If your Z-11 has the battery pack in it , make sure it has batteries in it . If it doesn't have a battery pack in it , then you'll have to run it off of a power supply . I'm using an MFJ 25 amp switching power supply called the "Mighty Lite" . It has a negative and positive power posts on the front for running your radio ... and a 5 amp jack on the back which is nice because I just plug my Z-11 pro into the back . So when I turn on my power supply I'm powering my radio and my antenna tuner at the same time .

I've got a cb radio and I've got a 12 volt battery and I have the positive to positive and negative to negative. Straight wired in my bedroom in my trailer, I have an antenna I got from Amazon and ran it out my window and placed the antenna on top of the trailer. Everything seems to work except when I connect the ground to the negative on the battery I push my mic to talk but the cb will go directly back to channel 9. I've also connected the ground to a peice of rebar outside the trailer driven in the ground but it continues to do the same thing. As long as I don't hook up the ground to anything it works but I don't get a good reception and I can't get out on my cb.😢What would you suggest because I want to be able to communicate even short distance. All FT-897's have the capability to go to 11 meters . So it's not hypocritical to use your 897 to listen in on the other bands . I'm sure that many of us do it . Just because it can go to 11 meters , doesn't mean that it's being keyed up there . I'm also sure that you'll find out that most of the 897's you're buying used these days have probably been MARS modded since the 60 meter band was added after they were manufactured , and ham operators were modding them so that they could key up there . With that said , I have to tell people that they shouldn't be modding their radios to be used outside of their legal operating areas . If I don't , I'll get 100 people telling me in the comment section that I should be saying that in my videos ... versus the one guy who "Picks Bloopers In My Videos" . I'll take that one guys comment over 100 of them repeating the same comment over & over . Thanks for watching the video , I'm glad you liked it ... other than the "Blooper" .
