Mate you seem a nice bloke but really you should watch a pro do it , they don’t use masking tape as water will get under it and always use a fugi tool along the new mastic joint, alway clean around where your going to apply new mastic with methylated spirits

I am doing this this week...so far i have removed 90% of the silicone...however under the glass shower panel...still have some of the previous bead right under the bottom edge of the panel. I have used the plastic scraper, applied solve it & used a stanley knife but there are still smallish strips stuck on the bottom edge of the panel. After cleaning & drying...is it still ok to re-caulk with some elements of the old caulk there???

I’m also afraid to use paint stripper because the wood is very old and mis shaped

Advice for anyone watching, don't use your finger to smooth the silicone after you've used the Cramer tool. It will create a concave bead which will allow the mould to grow in and the bacteria on your finger will also cause it to go mouldy. Just use the tool.
@rscelectrical7091Ай бұрын
You might be good at plastering but leave the Electrical to people that know what they're doing. Cable should have gone to the ceiling then across and down to the new socket with steel capping for protection. That's just an accident waiting to happen.

Hey. i want to add a plug socket about a meter above from a current one. Is there a way to feed a cable down to the current one, without having to cut the wall? Like if i cut the new socket, and feed it down behind the wall to current one. Is that doable?

Tons of videos on UTube. And all have 2 things in common: none will show you how to form corners and how to make two beads meet. No why? Because it’s a mess.

As beginners, we could use masking tape to make sure that the silicone only sticks to the desired surface and a scraper will definitely help create a good finish.
@Freeborough85Ай бұрын
@@SC00BYD0PAPA Definitely don't use tape as the silicone edge won't be sticking to the tile, it'll be sticking to the tape. So when you remove the tape there will be parts of the silicone bead that are not stuck to the tile. Over time, water will get behind it.
@dinkydoo66Ай бұрын
I wouldn't advise masking tape on any area that's exposed to water. It will have a slight lip, which is likely to Peel away. I've used it though for caulking skirting boards, etc.Where you can smooth the lip with your finger afterwards. @SC00BYD0PAPA

Do you need to clean up any silicon residue that may be left, squeezed, on the tiles alongside the joint?
@yoantodorov80102 ай бұрын
if its getting on way of sealant yes, otherwise it depends if client pays you for that or you are doing this for yourself, then tiles must be cleaned with something else as between tiles is not sealant but filler with certain code of colour !

To comply with the regs you should have gone from existing socket up to the ceiling across and down to new socket. That us correct zoneing

exactly!! not only that but, with no trunking slap bang in the middle of the wall next you fire a nail for a picture hook straight into your live cable, and learn the hard way that this was NOT! good, now we will also have millions of houses with wires getting no trunking chucked in the wall all over a wall that is almost certain to get pictures hung!

Brilliant! Any Sparky's advice here...I have a kitchen socket that when I plug any appliance into it trips all the bottom floor sockets by the mains breaker? Any ideas? Thinking from this vid it may need the box earthed? Will check again but when I checked no loose wires and everything where it should (wasn't aware of earthing back box at that time so will check) cheers
@ScubaSteve193 ай бұрын
likely just too much plugged in on one circuit, could either pull a seperate circuit feed for the kitchen plug or double check the breaker isnt over loaded with two feeds if its a single pole breaker.
