I like the C3 with the original 122. ! I think a little more of old school sound which is where I came from ! I have never heard a Leslie I didn’t like ! Don Leslie was a genius and I met him in the 1970’s in Phoenix! Nice Guy

What an awesome video. What great musicians. That B3 sounded fantastic. It would be great if you could get something like that happening in your store. I know you're not a live music venue but what a great way that would be to demonstrate the power and beauty of the mighty B3. Always love all your videos 👍👍👍

l don't know why the Hammond sk1 keyboard is on this organ
@KeyboardExchange14 күн бұрын
Please allow me to explain and thanks for your comment. We like to show that a third keyboard can be added on top of a console Hammond B3 or C3. We have special keyboard racks made for us that are designed to bring that third keyboard into an ergonomically best possible position. We know that a set up like this can be very practical and also allow a musician to pick up that third keyboard for travelling or gigs while not disturbing the primary instrument. The keyboard will not replace the full size console without compromise but in a practical world we see the benefit of keyboards. I have personally owned and tried many keyboards. They do not satisfy me the same way a properly restored B3 or C3 can. Hope this helps! Cheers!

The organ for which this switch was designed will soon be in the home of the buyer in Norway. We will not have the ability to show the finished result of this specific instrument but will likely be adding more of these custom made switches to other instruments in the future.

All Leslie are great i have a 122 and 147 only difference is empty space between bottom speaker and horns
@KeyboardExchange15 күн бұрын
True that there is more empty space with the taller Leslies 122 and 147 when compared with the 142 and the 142. Years ago I asked someone who had worked at the factory the reason for the shorter Leslies and was told..." Jim, we get a lot of calls from guy who do not want to lay their Leslies down in their STATION WAGONS!!!!!!!" For those of you who do not know what a "station wagon" is, Google it for some pictures and you will see what some of the musicians in the 50's and 60's used to haul their gear around. We find the shorter Leslies also work well in other applications where one does not want the Leslie to block the view out a window or for use under the church stage etc.

Have you guys taken in a Hammond Regent model organ before? That's the all-tab theatrical style organ
@KeyboardExchange14 күн бұрын
Years ago we sold a few and know the organ to be a fine sounding instrument for the right musician doing a style of music that is no longer as popular as it once was. Additionally models like the Regent do not have a support system for parts or technical servicing unless you are able to find someone local. We decided many years ago to focus on the most popular models of tone wheel organs being the B3, C3, and A-100 models plus a few more that come to us. These models mostly share the same internal parts therefore we can collect all the parts needed to maintain the instruments we sell and there are technicians available who understand these models. Thanks for your comment!

thanks Jim: My first Leslie was a 145 for my M3 back when I was 15 (1968) Then, I graduated to the B3 with 122 (1973) and have it to this day. Also, now have a 122RV. All are in storage. I remember the 147 label on the 145- that brings me back :)
@KeyboardExchange15 күн бұрын
Well, when I was about 15 years old I too had an M3 with Leslie 145! It replaced the Farfisa. How about calling us about that B3 in storage? We can either restore it for you or perhaps buy it from you. We should talk about Hammonds and the similar paths our lives may have taken.

Can you do a comparison of the Leslie Tallboy vs. the shorter 122 or 142. (I think the Tallboy did not have slow speed, only fast and off? So maybe put 122 slow/fast motor in the Tallboy?)
@KeyboardExchange16 күн бұрын
It may be possible at some time in the future. We have several of the Tallboy 31H and 32H speakers in stock but they need to be restored to have an accurate comparason. They do have a wonderful tone. We have a video showing a model A Hammond with a tallboy Leslie that I will share with you soon. You will hear a difference but the organ itself, being a model A has a somewhat different tone. Thanks for commenting!

I had to laugh when I read 'Switch your Leslie with your foot.' I had thoughts of some angry organist kicking their Leslie for some reason.😅 What a really interesting and informative video. I know that some clones have an expression pedal with a Leslie foot switch available as an optional extra but I had no idea that this setup could be retrofitted to a vintage Hammond. Hopefully the person requesting this will find that it answers their needs and that it works really well for them. I think part of the magic of the Leslie is that half moon switch accessed by a speedy and well oiled left hand. It looks cool if your watching and feels cool if you're playing but that's just my opinion and I'm certain it's not everyone's so it's wonderful that this option exists. 👍
@KeyboardExchange14 күн бұрын
Many thanks for your comment! The foot switch can be very practical and allow your hands to stay focused on creating music. We agree, it is an excellent option and some Hammonds actually came from the factory with this feature built in.

...as a multi keyboard player...I need three hands available all the time...right foot on volume pedal..left foot on on off switch...we... Jimmy McGriff... groove Holmes.. Out of curiosity, what Leslie is the loudest?
@KeyboardExchange17 күн бұрын
Some solid state Leslie models are louder than the 122 and 147 models that we prefer. Volume and power are one thing and tone quality is another subject and variable. Many prefer the tone of a tube power amp which has limits to the power it can produce so some use more than one Leslie or mike one Leslie. The 122 and 147 use the same tubes and audio power is 40 watts RMS which is still enough to hurt your ears in a small room. Contact us to let us know how you want to use a Leslie and we can provide more specific details. www.keyboardexchange.com
@classicaudioadventures17 күн бұрын
The 925 with its 140W solid state amp is probably the loudest model, but as the folks at KEI suggest, the tube-driven models are the ones to get!
@nytom4info17 күн бұрын
... didn't matter.. Leslie's on stage were miked..my 147 and the 122 were my "stage monitors"..but I could play guitar through the 147...
@classicaudioadventures17 күн бұрын
Very cool! I built a footswitch that plugs into the extra 6 pin connector on my two-speed 45, but I like this solution better...especially with an A-100 where the there's no convenient location when the pedals are attached.

Thanks for your comment and for watching our video. This video was made for a client who purchased a beautiful A-105 from us and it was shipped to his home in Norway. Sometimes when we sell an instrument, we need to follow up with detailed information for a buyer to make his own modifications or repairs even years after the purchase. Being able to make these videos for this purpose is very helpful for our business and customers. We thank the good people at KZbin who are doing a great job!

Hi - I appreciate your vids. Regarding foam removal, what do you replace the foam WITH? I imagine it is felt, but is it a specific type? Thickness? Is it glued in? Thanks!
@KeyboardExchange17 күн бұрын
Great question! Something must be done to replace the original intent and function of the foam, and previously of the felt that was used to retain the fine wires. To be clear, the felt never needs to be replaced. Our techs actually weave a cotton fiber retaining network as a very effective replacement for the factory installed foam. It takes a bit of time, but the result is outstanding and the cotton fiber will be noncorrosive long term.

Do you guys have also Conn brand organs?
@KeyboardExchange17 күн бұрын
WE do not however my first job in the organ business was with a company that had 5 stores in malls. I learned a good bit about Conn organs at the time which had excellent tone quality compared to other brands. Why do you ask? I especially found the three manual Conn organs interesting starting with the 650, 651, 652 and the last was the 653. I think it was the model 580 with three manuals and a spinet set of bass pedals that was a nice instruments as well. All were considered "Theatre" models to partly replicate the tone or organs used in silent movies before audio was added to films.
@paulnuccio311421 күн бұрын
Why didn't you SHOW where the rivets are located so an owner can find out whether the organ has felt or foam??
@KeyboardExchange17 күн бұрын
Excellent question! We will remember to do that the next time!
@christopherlangley452221 күн бұрын
so yall trade in your A 105 for an A100 The A105 is the better organ .
@KeyboardExchange17 күн бұрын
For clarity the A-100 series offers different style furniture with the same internal parts. The A-105 has a different style cabinet that includes a finished back and folding wood locking cover. The sound should be the same however the furniture style is different. In this setting a finished back would not be required. Sometimes an A-105 will be traded in for a B3, C3 or A-100 that is in better working condition than the original A-105.
