Regarding shell shocked, I remember a story of a high end British commander (don't remember the rank, but higher than officer) visiting a ww1 hospital (either this was just near the end or a year after the end of ww1) to give his wishes to the soilders who were there. At one point, they were visiting one of the shell shocked soilders who was in the garden and the commander removed his hat. As soon as the soilder saw him do that, he went into a panic frenzy, screaming and cowering till the commander put his hat back on. No one knew why taking a hat triggered his PTSD, but it likely had to do with seeing something horrific connecting to a removed hat.

Not really, they wanted to start a war years ago but didn't want to go through it. His death was what broke the camels back, if he didn't die the war would be caused by something else.
