Im a 2d artist and I’ve been animating for a while now in 2d software. Do you think it’s worth it to switch to a more clay style in 3d and learn blender from scratch?

I learned that its better not to create at all to not feel anything. Cant be sad when you cant be happy. Also need to make money no time for that. Deep in my heart I feel like I would be happier if I created again but also it will only lead to disappointment and imperfection. The world only accepts perfection. After alot of pain in my life I feel like not feeling anything at all is the best medicine. If you are on a journey on your own tho, dont do as I did.

I know it has been repeated 1000 times already, but this video perfectly encapsulates my creative experience. It's comforting knowing that the feeling is shared among so many people.

I'm making a TPS too and the easy solution was to add a crosshair to the HUD, but I realized the bullets weren't hitting where I was aiming. I never thought crosshairs should have more thought into them, this is a nice video showing what I mean and the solutions other devs have made

Get the best of both and invest some time into making a framework. One well made, re-usable stack of modules that sits on top of your game engine of choice and contains things like player movement, inventory systems, AI and pathfinding, physics props, etc. Then when you go to start a game, you grab your framework and focus on the gameplay elements, instead of getting bogged down pouring so much time into the technical side that the player never even sees.

I don't think I get it, you make a low quality version of a project to see where it needs improvement? It's like setting something on fire to see if it hurts to touch, the act of doing it makes the negative outcome guaranteed.

@@JayTheDevGuy I feel like you misunderstood what he said. He thinks that you were correcting mistakes of the low quality remake of the project. Whereas you used it to correct mistakes within the core of the previous version. Though someone who hasn't at least tried to develop a game wouldn't understand

This feels like one of those "hard pills to swallow" of, not everything has to be good (code or visually) while your still figuring out stuff. I suffer from wanting things to look good before I actually implement something and know if it is something I even WANT in my games and its a hard habit to break. I started a new project and even though I got a lot of basic stuff done, I still have caught myself spending 90% of my time working on visuals first that 90% of people would probably not see because it'd probably be temporary anyways. I think there is a mindset a lot of devs have (especially newer devs like me) where if the game doesnt LOOK good at first, you are failing. A good habit is to COMPLETELY ignore visuals (unless the visuals are somehow extremely important to the thing you are adding) and literally JUST add functionality. First implementations with 0 actual models, 0 effects, all code and in-editor objects is the best way to go, and then making it look good LATER.

Years ago I was always working on some project or another never actually finishing anything then I had quit all together. Then a year ago I started making art again it started out as me just making stupid little memes that only a few people would even see and I had lost some skill but not alot however I kept on making memes and soon enough I would just make my own art again and I had improved beyond where was at when I stopped and all that because I make memes

I've been kinda trying to get into game development for like 3 years, and the only times when I done something akin to a game was when I stopped caring about code more than the game itself. Same thing right now, I'm making a new game, and the only reason I'm seeing progress while putting together a prototype is because I don't spend 90% of development time trying to figure out the best way to make my code architecture.

when you described multiple with the gradient in blender, my brain finally understood it in layers in Gimp, Photoshop, Rrocreate, Rebelle, etc. I love this simplified breakdown, it was demystifying but cool too!

To start, I think it’s important to build a well-developed world and create engaging characters. Doing so might open up new possibilities, such as enhancing gameplay. I’m sharing my perspective as an artist and writer, while you likely view it from the lens of an artist-programmer. Wishing you the best of luck-I truly hope you bring your idea to life and create an incredible game that becomes a sensation!

Ive got a game I wanna make, and I've already spent multiple days staring at code and looking up tutorials just to get ONE thing to work. I did my art first since that was something I knew I wouldnt need a tutorial for. Ive only got a couple place holders and all the tiles for stage one done. No animated sprites yet and ai movement is definitely janky. Like godot has path2d but apparently its broken in 4.3 and I thought I deleted my entire scene when I tried to undo ONE point on it and it squished the sprite I had attached to it with no way to revert it back to normal so I had to remake my sprite scene. So I'm ignoring the paths for now until theres an update that fixes it even though paths are really important for this project. Does this count as bad code? Idk, probably lol its even got some chatgpt stuff in there that I couldnt figure out myself with the help of tutorials
