The right hand may be ornamental, but unfortunately, that is where the rubber hits the road. I've tried to build up this technique by using thirds in both hands when I'm just improvising. It definitely seems easier going the direction of the thumb rather than away, i.e., up for the right hand and down for the left. It also It a situation where bigger wider hands are a disadvantage.
@CharlieAlbrightPianistКүн бұрын
Ah, sometimes big hands/fingers could be an advantage and other times, maybe a disadvantage. You might try focusing on doing just the top notes (not playing the bottom notes). Then, when that's more comfortable, adding, the bottom to it? If you haven't watched my masterclass video on this etude, you might be interested, as it goes into more detail than this 60 second short. Here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqmzdKGNZ5WLfdE Good luck! :)

How is it so far?
@CharlieAlbrightPianistКүн бұрын
Really liking it! My friends have the much higher-end one that retails for like $1700 and is often on sale for $1100, but I didn't want to spend that much one one of these. With a baby, our downstairs laminate flooring would get sticky often from dried sugar from dropped fruit and whatnot, and an automatic mop helps a lot with keeping the floors clean. We had a regular lower-end iRobot vacuum (I think the i4 Evo from Amazon) downstairs which was fine for dirt, but didn't help with stickiness or footprints or anything. This one navigates much better (thanks to the lidar, mostly, I think), and gets stuck less often. It has gotten stuck a few times (a couple times on a dog toy/rope, I think, and once locked itself in the bathroom), but it seems way smarter and does its job pretty well. Overall, we're pretty happy with it so far! :)

Maybe thats why I dont like the classical to romantic era. Too much chromaticism. Swing used it a lot too. Along with a lot of 7ths. I prefer Bach and Vivaldi
@CharlieAlbrightPianist8 күн бұрын
Bach and Vivaldi are pretty awesome! My personal preference is late classical through romantic, but I can appreciate some good 'ol Bach too! :)

@@CharlieAlbrightPianist Yup. Air, Arioso, Well Tempered, Jesu Joy, Cello Concerto 1. He makes Pachelbel sound like an amateur though to the casual listener they are the same. No. Bach is more complex. He shift keys mid bar. McCartney and Bacharach can do that. And not simple, raise the whole song a half or whole step. The key shifts are part of a melody. McCartney had an uncanny ability to do that in his 20s.

@@CharlieAlbrightPianist My main issue is chords. Finding new chord progressions I can write melodies and arrangements to. But I hate lounge music which is basically what people online teach. Light jazz. Klezmer is good and Chales Mingus is ok, but I generally find it bland. Lessons in the most complex way to sound ok. I like the Italian style. Melody and passion. And sometimes throw in harmonic minor. Which I got from listening to Yngwie Malmsteen's first album. That key makes sense to me. Harmonic major is beyond my grasp. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKnOdGWnr6mLa9E

Wonderful advice. I use the Cortot edition as well, it has many helpful pre exercises. Could you share your recording equipment and settings?
@CharlieAlbrightPianist14 күн бұрын
Thanks, @finnaugensen6271! I'm currently using a really old Zoom H4n microphone/recorder thing. For these Masterclass videos where I'm talking and playing, I'll throw on a limiter in Final Cut, but that's about it (don't usually change EQ or anything). Occasionally on videos, I'll add a bit of gain if it's too quiet. For more performance-y videos, I'll often tweak the EQ and add some reverb in Final Cut (and maybe add a limiter). Nothing fancy, but seems to work alright! :)
