Everybody is going nuts over this hit, shows how soft the state of the NHL is. Remp is so much taller ofcourse his elbow will be at head level, there was no intent to end a career, every hit has intent to injure. He was at the boards and remp stapled him into them, guys that trip or crosscheck players skating towards boards on purpose is what theres no place for and deserves suspensions. Come on everyone this isnt soccer, remp has no reason to be demonized like these snowflakes who probably arent true hockey fans just love to have people listen to their dumb opinions but the league is way more soft as it is, heavys are a dying breed

Nobody cares about what his height is, He's dirty elbows don't get to be excused because of his height, Although rag fans being delusional will never accept the fact. Too bad, would love to see McDERMID adjust Rempe's visor again.

Well no shit his elbow is going to make contact he's at least a foot taller than him and his momentum is carrying upward...

I am surprised a penalty was called. The refs usually let that slide (if an Oiler is hit from behind.)

Dr. Wilson, you should take a look at the hit taken by Georgia Bulldog player Gunner Stockton in the SEC championship game against Texas. One of the hardest hits I have ever seen. The team’s official stance is that he did not sustain a concussion but I don’t see how that is even possible. Very violent hit!

Timing was fine. Lawrence slid a bit late. Forearm to the head was unnecessary but maybe unavoidable Bang bang play Unfortunate

I think they need to change some rules if they don’t want the QB to get hit, cause if they want to run with the ball their fair game.

Does age have anything to do with the healing of fibula? And when the bone is healed, we may suppose it's as strong as it was before (Ovechkin case)?

Notable that in player pants there is a section that comes up to protect your lower back and tail bone. Refs are usually great skaters & aren't normally seeing any impact so they wear limited protection in that area (some only wear something like a girdle, jock, or padded base layers, some wear nothing). I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a back/lower back injury from hitting the ice, but definitely there is risk of neck & significant spinal, so better to be safe.

It's easy to critique when you freeze each frame but you can't do that on the ice. He had made his decision to hit him 20 feet away. It's part of the game. I doubt he knew beforehand how it would turn out for his opponent.

Great analysis! Im a kinesiologiest (by education, i dont practice) and wanted to see something like this. The analysis, not the hit of course! Just one side note: the hit happened against Utah not the Jets. Keep up the great work doc!

@@Dr.StefanWilsonI'm happy it's just a fractured fib and not ligament damage. If my memory from university serves me correctly, that's not a weight bearing bone. I see he isn't even wearing a cast. It (hopefully) should heal up really soon. An Lcl or ACL injury would have been a lot more devastating, or the plate.

I had this same injury my freshman year of high school. Dove and caught a knee to the bicep. Dislocated again that basketball and baseball season. Had surgery and dislocated it another 9 times since then over the past 18 years

Good video, as always, Dr. Wilson. I know Reaves is a good guy off the ice, but a bad guy on the ice. His type of player is outdated, and needs to be eradicated. It's time to play by the rules, and within them. Let's see if the NHL will send a message or continue status quo! All the Best, Nursey. See you Soon.

Leaving your feet as a result of delivering a hit is legal and I'm sure as a doctor you can understand the physics behind why that happens on MOST hard open ice body checks.
@MavericNorthcottАй бұрын
What part of his game is outdated? The fighting? Reeves isn't really known as a particularly big hitter and this wasn't a deliberate or targeted headshot like we saw from guys like Matt Cooke. This is a hockey play resulting in accidental head contact. Suspension worthy for sure, but not deliberately dirty.
@JimsomeАй бұрын
No, Nurse is out dated. 6"4 making himself 5"8, zero play awareness. He was looking down and away from any forecheck the whole time. Total lack of awareness resulted in this hit. Repeat SIX FOOT FOUR. This is the equivalent of leaving your doors unlocked in a bad neighborhood. Pay attention, to the players on the ice. Zero awareness. Reaves was already in the offensive zone Nurse was in lala land. It's a contact sport and the entire Oilers line, goalie and Nurse all failed to protect themselves/him self
@overlordeddie0778Ай бұрын
It’s very messed up. All of this could be avoided if the NFL wasn’t to cheap and neglectful of their players, by instituting artificial grass instead of real fields
