The marlin are scared sh**less now. Much more useful than a beat-to-death old ratchet. Thanks for a fun video. I like these things.

HaHa. I totally get it. This is supposed to be fun, and, when it sucks, it's just time to rethink things. What was that running joke on Car Talk about Mr. Heavy Duty? Every thing had to be heavy duty. Well, here you go. You just need something more heavy duty to take that shaft down. Ideas are appreciated....

Internet is like that, people will have bad things to say, but you must use a filter and dont pay attention to internet keyboard warriors. Pay attention to people that love your work, 95% do. Those 5% are not the majority!

It was not bad you might want to scuff up the plastic with some sand paper before applying painting so it will adhere better and when dry brushing dip the paint then stroke one, twice on a paper towel then lightly dust the object or area with the brush in one direction,
@lezking5060Ай бұрын
I think you are far too harsh on yourself! It came out looking good, and every part of the process contributed to that... even the parts that you think are "mistakes". Maybe the "hammered" finish paint was not the best choice, as it was that that gave you your "texturing" problems, I think.

and i can see the lead screw had been snapped off before, judging by the weld to put it back together. and with the amount of brazing on the jaws, this thing was not treated well at all in its lifetime. i hope you greased the lead screw head inside and out before you put the C retainer in.
@nicodemus7784Ай бұрын
breaking the end cap made my heart so sad, i would have gotten the piece welded or brazed back on. golden color is brazing, its the brass in the filler rod.

I had been kicking around fanfiction ideas set in the Star Wars universe I call "Starson's Gambit" about a smuggler and his two younger cousins. The story is set shortly before or during the events of Star Wars A New Hope. I could definitely see the "Starson family" living/working on board this thing and using it to give the Empire a hard time.

Duplicolor makes a vinyl and fabric paint that is self-leveling. Works well with plastics. Experiment first.

Painter’s tape will help you with your lines. Also, fine sand paper (~600 grit) helps with refining surface areas.

I have always wanted to see an honest review on one of those tumblers. I have the vibrating parts cleaner, it is awful. Im sure there is something it is good for, but for me it is loud and takes forever for even modest results. Thanks for sharing, this was fun to watch. Cheers

Hi Ben. I'm a little late to the party as I just came across your video I don't know if you have restored the wooden handle screwdriver that came with the large screw yet, but I believe the screw is so ypu can add a metal butt to the wooden handle. I've seen 357 Magdad do that before He cleaned up the handle, drilled a hole in the center of the butt, ground down and polished the screw head tapped the hole in the handle and threaded it, cut off the screw, and threaded or epoxied into the handle. This gives it a polished metal end. He is a superb craftsman and does some great restorations with Chucks help on the polishing. 😊👍

I would suggest learning how to properly swage sleeve fittings and those “grommets” as you call them are insulators, vibration insulators, they mimimize the transference of vibration of the chime tube to the suspension cable, thus prolonging the tone.
