I attempted carving a bowl out of a slice of cedar. I hope you enjoy the video.

Ben , you know what i like about your channel is your not afraid to fail! Sometimes things just dont work out the way you want them to. Overall you feel the same frustrations that we do. Some channels everything works out just great. In the real world that just doesn't happen. Keep doing what your doing my friend as I love the channel the way it is!!!✌🇺🇸🎥Roger

There is something so satisfying about making chips! When we had the wood lathe set up and were turning stuff just for fun, we had to take turns and man it is hard to wait when you see how much fun the other guy (my son) is having. Wood working with a lathe is borderline addictive!

I bet your shop smelled really nice while you carved that cedar!! I made a cane knife handle out of cedar and did not stain it, just clear coat. I wish i would have stained it as it looks like a spruce 2x4 now. Loved the project! keep them coming please.
@mrbenmall2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Patrick. It did indeed smell nice. In the town where I used to live in the hill country, there is a plant that harvests cedar to make cedar oil. The whole town smelled like that.

My Dad is good for that kind of thing too.....Gets something like a piece of wood then keeps it and never does anything with it.....The things he's had since I was a kid that he was going to use for a project are endless...........Now at 82 I don't think those projects are going to get done unless I'm the one doing them........The new disc did seem pretty good for smoothing.

Looks good. A lot of work though. I see other youtubers usually use a lathe to turn bowls . It's much quicker and smoother but it seems like it's the machine that dies all the work.

All's well that ends well with a new tool. They make a disk like that with chainsaw teeth for rapid results (sculpting and carving). Not for everyone - drew serious blood from the "stumpy nubs" guy and sent him to the ER. Been leery of mine ever since.
