Thank you so much! I have one more question. How many ounces of electolytes should I drink during a fast? And it's in addition to water, right? I have done three 36 hour fasts and I absolutely love them. I didn't realize they were considered longer fasts. I didn't have electolytes. I'm waiting to do another one until I better understand how to do it safely. In the meantime I keep doing intermittent fasting. Thanks for your inspiring videos!@WellWithJoy

I mix electrolytes with 40 ounces of water 2 times a day. But, you may need to work up to twice a day because too much of electrolytes can cause diarrhea :( . And because electrolyte are just adding minerals to water, I count it toward my water intake. I love adding in the 36 hour fasts too! And when your minerals are kept balanced it really is easier! Thank you for watching!! :)

Would you recommend the meals in between to be keto based or could it be something healthy still (that could still break you out of ketosis) I also don’t have a gallbladder
@WellWithJoy
@WellWithJoy Ай бұрын
Keto based is a good goal. However, I do recommend getting more carbs from vegetables at times. But, everyone is different. The goal is to eliminate bad oils, sugar, toxins, and processed foods from your diet. Focus on whole, one ingredient foods. Then with fasting and eating Whole Foods you can train your body to go in and out of ketosis as you become metabolically flexible.😊 Because you don't have a gallbladder, Dr. Mindy recommends working up to fasts 20 hours and over. Also making sure you are supporting and supplementing for your liver & stomach because they are now doing the gallbladder's job. Get plenty of leafy green vegetables when you do eat. 😊

When I do 36hr fast, my cortisol spikes and my BP also rises. Can you talk how to fast safely
@WellWithJoy
@WellWithJoy Ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Cortisol will go up when you fast. Especially when your body is not used to it or metabolically flexible. And the increased cortisol can cause a rise in blood pressure. Taking it slow and working up to the longer fasts is advisable. Great idea!! I will talk about safety in fasting in a future video :)

A 36 hour fast is easier to move into once you have the OMAD lifestyle down. The study is interesting. 30 days would definitely take some planning. The 36 hour fast is one that I use to break through plateaus and keep my body healing. :)

Isn't it true that when we fast, we lose muscles? I have been lifting and gaining some glute muscle. I want to do ADF, but I don't want to lose the muscle.
@WellWithJoy
@WellWithJoy Ай бұрын
Great question!! What I have learned is that When we fast and get into autophagy our body starts to break down damaged, old, foreign, or rouge cells. This may include muscle cells that need attention. Once the fast is done our body is primed and ready to build up new cells and muscle. But, the secret is that when you refeed after you fast, to make sure you are opening your eating window with a good source and amount of protein. (approx 30 grams) and making sure you are getting the protein you need when you have your eating days. Hope that helps!! 😊

Great questions! Collagen powder contains protein (even if it is unflavored), and protein does break a fast. I would save it for your eating window. It is also a great way to open your window. I use the Keto Mojo-meter to test my ketones and my blood sugar. 😊

Thank you so much for this video! I’m 48 and was struggling with symptoms on and off the past 3 or more years. The peak was January of this year with hot flashes, night sweats, irritability. Met with a hormone nurse and introduced some herbs and supplements and I feel much better. But I also started doing longer fasts and I think that may have helped as well! No hot flashes since I’ve started ADF!

👋🏻 new subscriber!! I found your article on ADF on Pinterest and then went down the rabbit hole and found your channel and Instagram account! Thank you SOOOO much for sharing!! Hubby and I have been keto now since April of 2021. I have been dirty fasting all this time until I read Gin’s book last month! I started with 20:4 and then quickly jumped to 42 hours with a friend. Well I did that for a month and honestly I didn’t feel the best. I’ve done beef and butter fasts in the past where I felt better. But after watching this video and listening to a few podcasts about the modified alternate day fasting I’m going to try it! Hopefully I will feel better and more energetic instead of lethargic and sick.

If you’re fasting 20 hours a day, your body should be producing plenty of ketones as it is. Not sure why you want to supplement and risk breaking a vast.
@WellWithJoy
@WellWithJoy Жыл бұрын
Hi There! Thank you for your comment. Yes - absolutely my body is producing ketones during my fasting hours.(love that feeling) I always make sure that I have been fasting at least 16 hours before I have my ketones. I have found that implementing ketones has helped me to fast longer & with more ease. The ketones I use have been studied and have been shown not to spike insulin. I can attest to the fact that I do not get hungry after drinking them. I do drink them quickly and then right back to fasting with black coffee, water and electrolytes. They have enhanced my fasting experience for sure. My goal is longevity and fat loss and these fit in perfectly for me. Here is a video for more info if you are interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqOoeIejpLWil5I Thank you again! Happy Fasting!!

@@WellWithJoy I don’t trust anything other than black coffee and water during fasting. I wouldn’t risk it by supplementing with ketones or electrolytes, just not necessary (for me). Once you’re metabolically flexible and acclimated to fasting, you should be able to go without supplements. But if your experience is it doesn’t break a fast, more power. Thanks for the reply.
