On the street legal 917, wasn't the frame super fragile? Wouldn't that have been a problem for street use? Or, is it fragile in terms of hitting 200mph bumps, not so much rolling around in normal street speeds.

Of all people, especially with your level of knowledge and 'street-cred,' referring to an engine as a motor - it's like pushing an ice pick into my ear. Love your content, but i've gotta hold you to a higher standard. Thx John. Huge fan!

The right term is engine not motor...motor is for electrical things....confused when u say motor

John and Matt, loved the video, it's fun and funny (the sped up parts) . Great and simple explanation of these older 911 turbo engines, especially for those younger audience with little or no knowledge and experience on or about these cars . Good luck with the unknown older junkyard engine, hopefully with a little freshening on the fuel system and a few smaller new parts it'll fire up and run great ! Best, Essy Fariab

Only just discovered your channel and am loving your content. You have such a great delivery and way of explaining things. I’ve just subscribed started to play catch up with your back catalogue. Really enjoying it so far, keep up the great work. Thank you.

The intercooler isn’t for cooling air heated by a hot turbocharger - its to cool the air heated by the process of the compression itself. Simple physics

As much as vintage cars are cool, there is almost 50 years of turbo development since that engine was new, it will be a lot better and cheaper if you build a more modern system and since you have a packaging issue and a 959 body kit, I say go for twin turbos. Instead of trying for 300 hp, you could probably very easily get to 400 with less lag using modern turbos (maybe a pair of K03s?) and good intercoolers. Lastly, I have to question your cleaning method a bit. If you knew the tirbo was seized, you should have taken off everything back of the exhaust manifolds and as much of the intake as you could, then seal up all the holes and pressure wash it with degreasing cleaners. That and some scrubbing with stiff brushes would have cleaned almost everything that can be cleaned, get rid of any smell and make the rebuild much easier. It would also make the test fit easier.

I was expecting a Boxster engine or something but damn you got a turbo air-cooled engine.

15:43 there are probably known working options for alternate intercoolers, but the first thing i thought of when you showed the cutaway 959, was a VW Corrado g60 intercooler. Good luck. I'm enjoying this build.

I thoroughly enjoyed these movies about these special Audis. Just out of curiosity though, was there ever any deciphering of the two cars to understand the production configuration following these ? Since a collectable, is a nice bit of added information and insight in how these cars were offered with these special equipments. 🤩

Nice addition with the Turbo motor! I've seen intercoolers that are custom made to sit below a Ducktail, so could work for this application if youre keeping the 959 wing.

Suggest a water to air intercooler
@KK__x11 күн бұрын
The amount of turbo lag you get from long intercooler runners is negligible, a very rudimentary equation not accounting for inefficiency or for boost, a 3 litre at 6000rpm is inhaling 150 litres of air per second, a 75mm diameter x 1 metre long runner is only 4.5 litres.

@mattpovah595211 күн бұрын
@ the 915 would have been the same gearbox this turbo engine would have been paired with originally, right? So it should be able to handle 300 hp no problem.

@HenryAlamoNavarro12 күн бұрын
Since yo have to make all rew reiforcements, you should try to find a period correct Targa arc (roll bar) for the middle, and 2 original doors with out the triangular windows to substitute the shortened ones; and then you will have better access to the rear seats, you will be able to make a propper reinforcement to the middle secction so it looks more original, a better transition between the doors and no special glass for the windows... And with this Turbo engine it will become the 911 TTT4S, TwinTargaTurbo4Seats...
