Sounding pretty swell. These old receivers had quite a hefty sound - thick but still pleasing to the ear. This seems to have changed as early as the later 80ies.

just picked one of these up for cheap! what does the loudness knob do? also, my front speaker inputs are broken and there's no 2/4 channel select - I'm only using it for my record player (phono), so do I need to worry about that?

I have a PL-90 Pioneer turntable that needs a belt replacement. I have the belt. I cannot remove the metal turntable. Also there is no hole on the edge where you run it through the pulley that moves the belt. There are 4 holes in the middle of the turntable. It will move up slightly but it won't come off. 8:05 Can anyone give me the solution.

There maybe an issue with the OiL or Grease that becomes dry. A white grease would do it. And sometimes it may not be a flywheel relying on Air dampening but a oil dampener. Worth getting the correct dampening oil for plastic parts and renewing by cleaning and reassembly.

GREAT JOB!!!!! Eurobandit I am sharing your post in a Forum of Vintage Audio surely you will get good comments and likes. But I have two questions: 1) Can you show or tell more details on how you cleaned the woofer and Mid Range ? I was surprised by the foam which seemed glowing did you paint it or change it? 2) The missing badge you bought it ordered from someone or found them used? Thks

I am still using my 1050 receiver,since 1978. It's had 3 lots of repairs and 1 recently. I have tried quite a few highly reviewed amplifiers over the years,but none were as good,so took them back. The base slam and warm rich midrange gives a movie theatre like sound which helps also to make poor recordings more listenable. But I wish it had a remote.
@jorgemartin50932 жыл бұрын
I recently bought it one too. But i found an edgy sound with high freq when they are at their peak. I'm very careful with volume control. I never exceed the -10 minutes clock position. Everything is in flat. Do you think I have to replace any component??
@screedy10502 жыл бұрын
@@jorgemartin5093 I immediately had to replace my speakers with better quality ones after I went from the 20 watts one to the 58 watts per channel Akai. It was a huge jump in sound type. But I do use it with the treble turned down one notch and the base up one or two notches to smooth it out a bit more.Sometimes it needs ten minutes to warm up to gel properly now that it's so old. Yours may need some work by a skilled technicians though. It was made 44 years ago.
@jorgemartin50932 жыл бұрын
@@screedy1050 yes. I use it with a pair if old Tannoy cheviot speakers. Sometimes iñI activate the high filter to warm things a but...but you know, i guess something happened to the Tannoys. I perceive some kind of distortion with certain treble frequencies...i'm scared. Maybe it is a capacitor from their crossover. I don't know. It sounds like dirt...
@screedy10502 жыл бұрын
@@jorgemartin5093 if you make an appointment with a serious hi fi store,maybe you could get them to set the Akai up and pair it with some of their speakers. That way you could determine if the Akai is producing the distortion. Then do the same with your speakers. I've had to replace the foam surrounds twice on my old celefs after I noticed vibration and distortion. Take your speaker covers off,play some loud music and watch the drivers to see if there are any cracks. That amp can really push most speakers. Also Tannoys may be too bright a combination with it. Sometimes you just have to pay the money for repairs and upgrades.
@jorgemartin50932 жыл бұрын
@@screedy1050 thank u. Yes i did that with a technician friend of mine who brought all kind of test equipment before I plugged everything. The problem i noticed appeared days later. The bass reproduction is amazingly good. I mean very good. The high mids and treble get a distortion when they are a little loud. The Tannoy were recently refoamed. I guees The Akai could have damaged the Tannoy crossover circuit at some point. My friend told me that the Akai protection circuit was working absolutely fine. He tested it with 2 iron or steel bars connected to the amplifier speaker output to test its power with the osciloscope etc
