What would be the best way to work on projects once I've connected my laptop. (Mixer to PC) or (PC to Mixer)? What are the differences?
@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions 21 күн бұрын
Hello Merek and that's a great question. The answer though is it depends. Right now I am preparing for a show I have to do this weekend and I have XAIR Edid opened up on my MacBook Pro only. I am changing channel names making bus mixes etc. I will then save this to a folder dedicated to where I save my scenes. When I connect my laptop I will connect "PC to mixer" because this tells the mixer to configure itself to what I've created on my PC. Here is another scenario. Let's say I get a last-minute call for me band and decided to go help them out so I grabbed my needed gear and an iPad only to go do the job. If I've created an awesome mix during sound check and the show itself with all my mics and instruments, I'd definitely want to save that to use it again in a similar set up. Because I only have my iPad though I can only save this mix to my iPad or not save it at all I simply muting all my channels, turn it off my speakers, pack up my gear and call it a night. Either way saved or unsaved, should I decide I want to save that mix to my laptop once I got home I would then connect my laptop to the mixer and then open with "mixer to PC". This would make my laptop configure it self to what's already going on in the mixer. From there I can just save that scene to a dedicated folder where I save scenes to on my laptop. I hope this helps.

Wow thanks so much Didn’t know this! I’ve used the RCA inputs which also kinda works but this seems to be what I’ve been missing PS: I’ve got a cheap wireless hand held mic that actually works ok for speech. When connecting to a karaoke wireless speaker it works fine but not to a proper mixer. Would it be because of the same reason mentioned in the video?
@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions 28 күн бұрын
You got it my friend and when you do hook your mic to channel one or two of the mixer with a standard XLR, make sure you got good gain structure. If you are using a lapel mic like what’s in the video, you’ll need the VXLR. Does your hand held mic have an XLR out similar to the Shure SM58?
@Mbee16

@@gfire_productions hi thanks buddy. If using a powered lapel like the Boya BY M1 lav mic would it also work with the Rode VXLR? I bought a cheap wireless mic. Was around $15. It works nice for short distance speech. The receiver has a 6.35mm TS jack. I've tried to use it with "line in" on a mixer but doesn't work. Some mixers you need to really push the gain then u get weak sound.

Even though this is old, it’s still a good video. I always like to see how you have things setup. I have had both of these mixers over the years, but not at the same time. In fact, I’ve had two of the 16 channel Yamaha mixers, and I’ve never actually used them with bands. Now that I have seen some of your newer videos, I’m just curious if you still use the analog setup. 🌟

Hey Xolani. I still have the analog set up and rent it to small bands. They love it because some of them usually rent equipment and have to hook all that stuff up individually but appreciate how fast they can get in and out faster with my rig. Mostly rock bands. So 1-2 singer mics, bass, lead, rhythm, kick and 2 overhead mics.

How do I use the middle position - "WiFi Client". Thanks
@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions Ай бұрын
You will need to know the name of the Wi-Fi network and the password. First you will need to connect to your mixer through one of the other to ways so either Ethernet or Access Point like I did in this video. Next open X-Air Edit to connect to your mixer through one of the two ways I mentioned previously. Click on the Setup button in XAIR Edit and then click the WLAN button. Here is where you enter the details for your router or home network not the XR18. In other words you will need the network name and the password. For the “security” type click WPA2. Then put in the router SSID name and the password. Click apply to send this information to the X air mixer. Quit the X-AIR-Edit app and turn off the mixer. Select the middle Wi-Fi client mode and then turn on the mixer and re-launch X-AIR-Edit. Once I make sure it's restart it you should find a net work and prompt you to connect. If it does not connect reboot your router. Lastly if Wi-Fi client is not working out for you and the two methods that I showed in this video certainly works. Please let me know if this helps. Keep in mind that if you do not have your own router when you go out to makes you will need the Network name and password from the venue if you are performing it. This is the reason why the majority of us probably do not use Wi-Fi client. I think Wi-Fi Klein is good for when your mixer is on a good stable net work like at your home and especially a net work you can trust to work. By bringing my own router as part of the set up I know it's going to work flawlessly because no one else can get on my router unless I give them the password. So in theory access point is for the access point or built-in Wi-Fi and good for close distances but other people could pin you off of this very easily if they think it's a Internet Wi-Fi and try to get on it. Wi-Fi client is good for your own net work to connect your mixer too but will change as you go to different networks and you will again be subject to the venues reliability of their router. Internet is you bringing your own router with you ensuring you are very few other people have access to that net work and password for most stable connection with your tablet, PC or MacBook if you or MAC user

Great Video Jerry! Question - can I connect my mixer with sub and sub’s output as input to alto transmitter for my k12 to receive transmission? TIA!
@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions Ай бұрын
Yes, any audio output source can be put into the alto stealth from your mixer but would need the correct adapter if it's not an XLR out from your mixer. Example number 1: I have a Behringer XR18 mixer and every single one of the "sub" or "aux" outs are XLR so I can run that output directly into an alto stealth transmitter input with a simple male to female XLR cable. Example number 2: I have a Yamaha MG 10 XU and the aux outs are quarter inch so I would need to get a quarter inch cable to XLR to the input of the Alto Stealth transmitter. Does that help???

@@gfire_productions There is one more thing i found out. When you send the Mic Signal via the mix out channel with an XLR cable, it also sends the bluetooth Signal!!! This is crap because it doubles the true stereo Signal so that you have a louder and doubled up mp3 Input on one side of the boxes. That annoyes me maximum. I decided to buy a XLR-Split cable to put the mic signal direct from my wireless-receiver in the Ch1 of each box. This doesnt send the Bluetooth signal. How do you deal with that problem?

My advice when there is always a grievance with any manufacture of anything, let them know I think the more of us and tell them what the issues are the better. If they are smart they will improve and make it right. If they're not then Sunday they'll be out of business. In my case I think they out of the warranty and sent me a new one and to date it has been working out really good for me.

For audio all of my mics and any audio devices would input to the Yamaha basic mixer and the mixer's audio would then be plugged into the focus rite.
