Brings back memories - had the same car in Westminster blue 20 years ago. Sadly rust and mildew had taken hold of it although mechanically it was sweet. Remember getting 200 miles from 20 gallons combined. Better than the V12 but not great

Surely not much point putting rust protection on if the existing rust isn't totally removed. A horrible job by hand. Would love to get a dry ice guy to do mine. But if the cars not worth much it's very hard to justify.

I have always had a real soft spot for the XJS and despite the endless negativity they get, Ithink they're wonderful. Great video and new subscriber from Cheshire

Ive seen this car in person. I didnt get underneath it but I had a looked around it and I would expect it to be very solid. I would be surprised if it needs much or any welding. Talking from experience as I have owned rotten Vauxhall Cavalier mk1's & Ford Transit mk5 Smiley's

An old neighbour of mine has a xjs v12 in immaculate condition in his garage it has been there for about 15 years and about 5 years ago he asked me to come around to start it , i took the battery of my volvo s80 hoping it will start it be for going flat and to my surprise it started almost instantly on the old fuel.,amazingly it ran very smoothly i let it idle for a few minutes until i could feel warm air coming through the vents then i revved it a little after the revs died down i put it in to reverse and got it out from the garage as it was very small the brakes where sticking so tried to take the caliper of but as you found they are inboard like the rover's from the 70's . I did not have the time to take on such a big job so i drove it back in and it's still parked there to this day as he does not have the money to get the work done to get it sorted and back, on the road. Its actually parked at his mother's house and she is elderly i don't know what will happen to it when she passes away hopefully he will keep me informed. Good luc, with your 3.8

You got your money back already, just the tool kit, the jack in the carpet boot, one of the wheels, You have 5, You are lucky or blessed or both. My first one 84 XJ^ 4.3, then came my 1990 XJS V12. Both of them in Ventura California. The first one I bought it in Montecito, Santa Barbara. Now I drive a 1996 4.0 ltr. Sovereign with only 84,392 Kms. I will watching your progress, my only concern is the rust bubbles 😧 Fix it you have like 90% already 🤞

Once ford came in with the MK2 they completely blew all the styling and good looks of the original, We used to build some of the very best cars in the world, now we just assemble other manufacturers rubbish. Thinking back to all the vile looking crap that came out of the Citroen and Renault factories, it leaves me confounded how those companies still exist today when companies like MG, Triumph, Rover, Rolls Royce have gone to the wall or are made abroad.

Absolutely loved the original MK1 XJS 5.3 litre V12, what a monster of a car and such a magnificent engine delivering something like 15 mpg before the HE model came in

Flip it and you are £1000 up.. keep doing doing that and you have a nice sideline. However,. as a KZbinr though you potentially have some great content restoring this.. if you you can do it. Corroded fuse box would be place to start. Lookin for warer damage. If fusebox ok, go through and make a shopping list of parts you know you need. Figure a rough budget double it. If not scary, then go for it. I love the xjs.

I'd flip it. They're aren't particularly valuable vehicles and that doesn't look like it'll change. This car has quite a bit of rust. In ten years, it'll be full of holes. Better to just get it running good and sell for a profit while you still can. 😊 If you want one to keep, it's not hard to find these in better condition than this one.
