Betty Buckley for me. I heard Elaine Paige too but in terms of vocal performance Betty Buckley is amazing . But in terms of acting performance Elaine Paige is the top pick for me. Jennifer Hudson is good as well in terms of the strong vocal emotional performance.

I have to give a special mention to Katie Rowley Jones (UK TOUR 2005). She was my first Belle when the show came to my.home town and she was wonderful! In fact this recording does not do her 100% justice. She is also a very lovely person as I got to meet her after. Her yellow ball gown was also the most movie accurate (though I also love the original Broadway dress) it had about 5 layers with a massive hoop underneath. I was in the front row so I could see all the beautiful details...I remember she said it was "very heavy. " Nic Greenshields was also a wonderful Beast and he and Katie had great chemistry on stage. ✨🌹

Elaine Page has a great voice, but I don't like the style she sings the song in. She overdoes it or something. That, "Touuche-a-meeEEe." Don't like it. There's far too many singers here to listen to the whole thing, heh. I saw Laurie Beechman when she was doing her Broadway run of this. It's the first voice I heard singing this song, and when it was live, my memory (wink) of it sounded better than what I'm hearing here from her. It filled the whole theater at that "touch me" part and I was thinking, "wow." Betty Buckley is the voice of the U.S. cast album, so I'm familiar with that and it sounds good to me. And Lea Salonga is always spectacular. There's a bunch here who can belt it out pretty good. But, I can't sit through 36 minutes of the same part of a song, so I can't judge everyone.

I must be high. It’s almost midnight and I’m watching a 40 minute long video of every Eponine to ever sing on a stage… and commenting on it. France is the gold standard. Facts are facts. 💁🏼‍♂️

2002 Broadway was great. Unpopular opinion, I love Lea, but not for this song, I thought she was a tad boring. I prefer the thrilling belters. Isn’t it interesting how we all appreciate different things?

If the idea of cultural appropriation existed in the 80s we wouldn’t have Les Mis and it never would have spread around the world.

Sorry to say, but personal opinion, at least half of those indicated were not really able to do justice to "Memories" as it was originally presented - they have changed inflection, they have held notes longer or shorter than in the original, their voices simply were not capable of singing such a very demanding song as intended by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Three of the more powerful women who recorded, sang at concerts or on television were not even mentioned - Celine D, Susan Boyle, Barbra Streisand and there were many other females who did perform "Memories" but not on stage, a cruise ship, in the streets of various cities and not on tv shows but made videos or recorded their versions of the original song. Barbra (and that is the correct spelling of her given name), Celine and Susan sang their version of "Memories" as it was intended by Andrew Lloyd Webber to be sung. Those males who performed "Memories" simply were not capable of the dynamic range intended by Webber. The differences many of the females shown made when singing "Memories" made a tremendous difference from what Mr Webber intended and they did not do good justice to Mr Webber's masterpiece.

@@mythra7174 sorry but there happen to be two entirely different songs - fact check please and don't think you are so smart. One is ""Memory" from the musical "CATS" and the other is "Memories" from the movie "The Way We Were" both were sung by Barbra Streisand (as well as by many other singers) and both are available here on You Tube as performed by the great Barbra Streisand. "Memory/Cats"was written/composer by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Trevor Nunn while "Memories/The Way We Were )movie version)" was written/composed by Billy Strand and Mac Davis. You picked the wrong "nit" to "pick".

@@rhh3582 I wasn't trying to be "smart." Not trying to be nasty or snotty or anything, just pointing out that the song in THIS video is "Memory", that's all. Not the other song. *You* said they sang their versions of "MEMORIES" as INTENDED BY ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER. So, you got the songs mixed up, not me. What does the other song have to do with this video? This video is for the song "Memory."
