They do the same with switch carts I guess? Not extra space inside the cart itself but the boxes are huge compared to the cart, which could be a little square (I've rarely if ever I can remember got a little leaflet bar so do we need that space?). Even weirder with the boxes that come with a download code 😅 when I got minecraft (code) from a store it was a plastic card

Actually went on Google Maps to figure out what District has the most book off/hard off locations (hobby off must be relatively new)... it should be noted there's Giant locations called Super book off you might want to check out those locations. Personally if I ever save up the money to go to Japan, I'm going to be going to Sapporo it seems to be a hotspot for second hand stores.

When implementing a multiplication system, you don’t solely rely on addition and subtraction In base 10, if you shift something to the left, that is equal to multiplying it by 10, so if i have 25, i shift it to the left, i get 250. In base 2, its equal to multiplying by 2, so lets say i want to multiply 3 by 12. 3 in binary is 11, and 12 in binary is 1100, which gives us information on how we need to shift. Reading from right to left, the first number is 0, so we do nothing. The second is also 0, again nothing. The third is 1, so we shift our 11 by 2 to get 1100. The fourth is also 1, so we shift our 11 by 3 to get 11000. We then add 1100 to 11000 to get 100100, which, when converted back to base 10, gives us 36. Basicly, base 2 lets us exploit a quirk in math that makes it much easier to multiply than it is in base 10, and so we can finish multiplying any 8 bit number by another 8 bit number in 16 calculations rather than in the 256 calculations we would have to do if we were only using addition

I would love to see a video on the logic of the classic Tetris game for nintendo. So many times when I'm playing, I wonder why or how I get the block patterns on the B Style game that I get and the Order of blocks that Tom's each time I play. I know it's all randomly generated, but I would love to understand how it picks what's going to be on the screen.

Japan didn't allow renting back in the 1980s, and Nintendo took Blockbuster to court over its game rentals. And of course there were multiple backup devices for the SNES, and those also existed for N64.

Backup or archival are not necessary to protect your software? I beg to differ. I bought Mario 64, but I sure as hell can't play it now without resorting to emulation. And no, buying a new system and a copy of SM64 / Nintendo Online subscription does not count as preserving the original software.

I feel really torn about how invested I am in Nintendo, especially their early years. Granted, all corporations are driven by profit but Nintendo has a long history of particularly vicious and arguably unnecessarily intense anti-consumer behavior. I've just started to really dig into NES development over the past month, and I'm enjoying it immensely, but the Stallman in me is deeply uneasy.

I always thought it was a fun part of the game when after you saved, it would ask if you wanted to take a break and then promptly do a shutdown or idle animation when you said yes. Most of the time you couldn't back out of it if you fat fingered it, until you turned off or restarted the system.

It's ridiculous that they don't allow backup. In my country, I think you can have roms to play on emulators if you have the original copy. Also, I heard there was someone who won in justice the right to copy it's CD for backup reasons

Bigger means more visible on the shelves and that means more sales. They still do this, too. Switch carts are smaller than standard SD cards but still come in boxes nearly the size of DVD/Blu-ray boxes. At one point they could excuse the larger case size for the inclusion of the safety and gameplay manuals, but they removed those to cut cost and waste. Still, the large boxes give more visibility and shelf appeal for the box art. The slightly different case size keeps them from being mixed up with DVD/Blu-ray cases.
