Kate & Leopold is one of the last great romantic comedies. This movie proved that Wolverine was a great and versatile actor after all

The camera stopped rolling too early. The scene should have ended with: "Still ... get rid of that stupid hat. Ain't no taking you seriously when you look like a Lucky Charms mascot." I would have liked Joanie a lot better except I could not get past that hat. Let's put Al in a rainbow wig while we're at it.
@jonathanturbide22325 жыл бұрын
LMAO I hope you were joking. Joanie was a madam, that type of hat was pretty common among them. Kind of a high society elitist type of thing, all part of the gimmick of having a brothel. I guess Joanie was just accustomed to that look, there's nothing laughable or overly theatrical about it.

Fernand was Mercedes's cousin but harbored full affection beyond cousin stage. He coveted her and got married to her. Edmond Dantes was later revealed as the true father of Albert when Fernand asked her to "bring me my son". Mercedes: "Albert is not your son, he is Edmond's". What a shock!!

Eight years late, but she's referring to her career as a whore Mistress, and her childhood incest. Joanie thinks that she's ''sick'', like there was something in her that made her prone to that behavior. Obviously, she was a horrible abused child/teen, but she's internalizing those experiences and blaming herself, as many victims do.

I love how Leopold doesn't even think about it, he just goes on about the Louvre and doesn't even realize that all these women are into him. The best part is he isn't trying to impress them or anyone, that is just his personality and that is why I love his character so much especially because Hugh Jackman plays him too.

Daniel Hannan is absolutely right. I wish we here in the UK had a Constitution like the American one. America is not perfect by any means but it is still the bastion of freedom for the whole world and that is because of its Constitution. As freedom of speech comes under attack here in Europe and people are being silenced and charged with speaking out against Islam for example we have nothing to fall back on to protect ourselves with legally.The UK became a free, tolerant, democratic country because of years of struggle against oppression and intolerance and its citizens understood and embodied that freedom. But as uncontrolled immigration has changed the nature of the people living in this country, that history and understanding is no longer embodied in the fabric and nature of the electorate and there is nothing now to protect our democratic society.

You have to balance the good and the bad though. They dont take care of the poor like we do, just look at their health care system, they concentrate to in my opinion about having free markets and creation in wealth (which in general is good but not when comes to health) They refuse to amend amendments, you must see the irony in that? Anyone who promotes tighter gun law gets shot down (excuse the pun) with the 2nd amendment and they dont seem to understand it can be amended. I 100% agree with Hannan that its fantastic it is a living document unlike the Magna Carta we have in the UK which has kept American Values but the downside is that it is so cherished that pride means they are not progressive when making law/repealing law. Without being offensive to Americans, I really dont mean to be, but if you look at things like death penalty and how religion plays a big part in politics in USA in the UK that is considered backwards, and we have been able to progress because we have not had a fixed constitution, so while they have advantages of keep American Values, we've had the advantage of not being strangled by a document but being able to move with the times!

Yeah, that's what men don't understand. I'm a man and have noticed that many men have no clue on how to behave around a woman. Many guys are like Charlie, they try to be funny around women. But women don't want a guy who "makes them laugh", I never met one who did. As Leopold said "No woman wants to be romanced by a buffoon." I have a humorous, comedic side, but I NEVER show around any girls/women. I'm never "funny", I'm always serious. I never show that side, ever, as I'm not a buffoon.
@ArvinYorro3 жыл бұрын
"Romanced by a buffoon" is different from making people laugh. Quick witted humor is a sign of intelligence and a positive trait that attracts women (and people in general). Don't be that serious guy.
@kbhprinsesse3 жыл бұрын
It is interesting, because when I have been on dating sites, a looot of men mention that "I'm funny", seeming to think that that is attractive. A lot of men also seem to see it as an estimate of their masculinity, both in competition with other men and finding it very important that women find them funny. I really don't get it. Personally I look for much more important qualities in a potential mate, such as integrity, trustworthiness etc. I'm looking for a grown-up, not a boy who wants an adoring audience.

lots of women want a guy who makes them laugh as women I am saying this i find serious guys unattractive its just that its unattractive when you have a crass and misogynistic humour that what turns us off

@TheStepmonkeyАй бұрын
No, you're confusing things. A woman will ALWAYS want a man that makes her laugh cause being funny is a sign of intelligence. Also, women show laughter as an obvious clue that they are attracted to someone. If a man can't even make u laugh that means he is below ur intellectual level.
@EvilDandy11 жыл бұрын
I remember watching The Libertine in the cinema, but honestly cannot remember a thing about it. Your comment touches on a very important distinction between Self and Ego. Jacque Barzun covers this in his book Classic, Modern, and Romantic with the Romantic being self-orientated and the Modern being egotistical. Likewise we might class feminism as solipsistic. The difference is the Romantic sees the self in relation to reality, but the egoist and solipsist sees reality in relation to the self.

I have a few measuring sticks to determine if a person is worthy of my time and love or not . . . . if someone doesn't cry during "ET" and/or if they don't get moved intensely by this song . . . well, I'm sorry, but that person was born without a soul and need not speak to me ever again.

Part of it I believe is us convincing ourselves we don't have any time. The way I see it, we don't make time to understand love, the other person we're with, or even our own intentions leaving so much room for the crushing of our fairytale expectations. Once that happens, we begin to settle, claw and scrape for any semblance of decency in a mate that we often look over noteworthy flaws. We need to ignore all the gossip and make our own dating rules. Listen to your hearts and be still.
@kbhprinsesse3 жыл бұрын
So many woman settle because we're told that we're "difficult" or "picky" or "demanding" or other derogative words if we have standards - if we expect men to behave in a decent way like any other adult. It's infuriating.

I totally agree... In theory everybody does great, but in practical application of the theory, in real life something always goes wrong...The founding fathers of America wrote this splendid constitution but they had slaves too... The ancient greeks founded the concept of democracy and spoke about freedom and the values of democracy but at the same time they had slaves doing all the manual labor for them as well...History has it's own way of repeating itself over and over again... I suppose...

I agree Greece is in danger, but that doesn't make Hannan correct and you do know this was a captialist idea pushed by right wing governments. Nothing is true, everything is permitted. - That is rather cynical - It would be if it were doctrine. But it is merely an observation of the nature of reality. to say that nothing is true, is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say that everything is permitted, is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic. This is awesome... !
