I have the Atom+ Dac as part of a budget system. The build quality is not an issue considering the performance to price ratio. I do think JDS is a really good company with great communication. Since I just started down the EQ rabbit hole and have not found a lot of choices, I’d love to see a Atom matching, four or five band EQ at a similar price.

I don't think I've ever seen a bad review of the Atom, so on the list it goes. As always, cheers Stu.

Almost wish my Atom would bite the dust so I could justify an upgrade lol. It's still going strong 3 years later. Really my only complaint would be the plastic build, but it's a pretty minor thing. I'm very happy with everything else.
@HomeStudioBasics Жыл бұрын
Yeah, back when I demoed it I thought it was kind of cheap feeling, especially coming from the Objective 2. I never had any issues with it but some people later on down the road told me they did. You could sell yours and get the heavier one lol. You'd still probably lose a small bit of money but it's all about chasing the high, right? 🤣😂
@Danlikescheesteaks Жыл бұрын
@@HomeStudioBasics I can't even necessarily complain about the plastic build, because I knew about it going in. If anything, I wish it was a little heavier, but apparently I could've requested more weights inside when I ordered it. Didn't know that until later. I did think about selling it to upgrade, but I'd rather only upgrade if I needed to lol

You generally wanna aim for having an output impedence no higher than a QUARTER of your highest ohm cans. Sub 1 ohm is pretty damn awesome

Im thinking to buy this JDS Atom. Now have Schiit Magni 3 Heresy and Sennheiser HD 600. To me, feels like Sennheiser HD 600 need more power, sounds little bit of weak(?). So what you think? Should i buy JDS Atom amp? And my Schiit Magni 3 Heresy is paired with Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus
@HomeStudioBasics10 ай бұрын
How much power does the Magni have? HD600 needs hardly any to get going per my experience.

Hey man! ATOM 2 for fat $tacks homestudiobasics.com/jds-labs-atom-2-review/ K11 homestudiobasics.com/fiio-k11-review/ or K7 homestudiobasics.com/fiio-k7-review/ as combo. K11 if you don't need RCA inputs since it has a balanced headphone output, K7 if you do need RCA inputs.

Yeah great stuff. Interesting what you tell. Thanks for explaining. Thanks for the humor. Nowadays there are VST's and VSTI's. Producing in the box with a DAW like Ableton, Cubase or Logic. I use Ableton. But hardware still is interesting. I will love your videos forever. Stay healthy,

This is off topic but i'm hoping you see this. My ideal headphone is something that has an incredibly wide soundstage, good imaging with good bass. So far I've tried the Fidelio X2hr, AKG 7xx and the Hifiman 400se. Out of these three my favourite is the AKG 7xx which has become my daily driver. I love the sound stage. I can hear everything in music and movies with great detail and these are great for gaming also. The bass boost in the 7xx version is also nice and enough to keep me satisfied. I love the x2hr as well, but the AKG 7xx is just a little better in every aspect. The Hifiman 400se is my first planar and i love the detail, but it just can't compete in terms of soundstage and imaging compared to the x2Hr and 7xx - which is understandable given its price. Headphones are really expensive, so I don't have the luxury of buying multiple headphones to try out, so I've been going off of countless youtube videos and reddit posts to try and decide what is good and what isn't. So far from my research, headphones in a similar price range to the 7xx and beyond seem over hyped and not as good as many people make them out to be. Even before i took the plunge and got the 7xx recently, people were saying it was too "flat" and didn't find it enjoyable. I understand that sound is subjective, however i absolutely love these and find them incredibly enjoyable. I am looking for another headphone that can provide all that i love in the AKG 7xx headphone (wide soundstage, imaging and decent bass), but do it better in the price range of around $500 - $700. Whether they be planar or dynamic, are there any you could recommend? Hope all is well and would greatly appreciate a response :)

Sorry so late. Yeah, SS on the 400se is okay for music, but particularly poor for Gaming which I was kind of surprised by. You and me both. K702 has been my daily driver (when I'm not trying new stuff) since 2019 basically. HD600 collects dust mostly nowadays, but I'm going to get new pads for it soon. Honestly, there aren't many headphones that match the 702 in Soundstage in my opinion. You may try something like an Ananda/Edition XS though. It's not going to be as wide, but the resolution and overall timbre both get an upgrade. All that said, you may have already bought something lol. Best way to reach me is through my blog, but I would def like to hear what/if you decided.

I don't really agree with your thoughts that output impedance's as low as 0.1 etc are bad for the sound. They are just the same as about 1 or even 2 ohms. I like the Amp+ though. Thanks for the review.

It kind of just depends. I think JDS strikes a great balance, but Topping products sound overly sterile to me. Same with Hugo 2. Thank you for the comment and civility!

God bless my brother Stu, I love your work, but JDS Atom I would not recommend. I sold mine after two weeks. I couldn't stand that plastic, that shallow sorry ass volume knob and even I had an RME DAC feeding that Atom amp, the sound was really boring and missing detail. JDS never again. Peace bro.

Honestly I don't see the need for this.. it's the same product. Get over it being plastic and light. Open it and drop some weight inside it if that bothers you.
