Why do you keep going on about no reading music? The book is perfect in introducing all the jazz chords people need to start, and suggesting the best way to learn them... 2 at a time up and down the neck. You can master all those chords without being able to read a single note. How to apply those chords is beyond easy... LEARN F*CKING SONGS! where you need to use jazz chords. There are thousands of them.

Thanks for uploading, and it’s interesting to hear your take on Mickey Baker seminal work, original published in the 1950s. I have Mickey Baker’s 1973 Completely Revised Edition (the blue book; Mickey Baker’s Jazz Guitar), bought when I was just 16 from Clifford Essex in London (£1.25)! Needless to say, the binding’s gone and it’s falling to bits. In that edition, it is Lesson 6, page 11, see the very bottom of the page. The notation gives the key is as G. Chord sequence: Gma7 (fifth position, Root 4, G), A13b9, Am7, D13b5b9 (fourth position), Gma7 (third position), back to A13b9, Am7, D13b5b9, resolving to G Major 7 (third position). However, it can easily be transcribe to the key of A. If one were to play it in the key of A and wish to end in A, (as in the video), it must start two frets higher (seventh position) Ama7, Root 4, A), and would then resolve to A Major 7 (fifth position). The notation indicates tied 8th notes, ie two attacks per measure, on beats one and four. It’s a matter of interpretation, it could be played bass note/chord style, as you say . . .

Awesome! ~ Been working on that one since 1983 - My version is definitely simplified but still wakes up the crowd and makes ppl take note - haha

Whew, lots of fun, thanks. Just bought both books on Amazon. Randy Bachman (Undun) and Waddy Watchel both learned on Mickey's books and are quite vocal about the chord substitutions. Thx for us, blues players!

Reading the comments I'm deeply saddened to learn that David passed away three years ago. He was a brilliant teacher who taught me so much about playing old school blues and I supported him on a number of occasions with small donations. It's a terrible shame that he's gone but he lives on in all the wonderful lessons he left behind. May you rest in peace old friend 😢
