I think slow drying can be a deterrent at times. If I'm on roll I don't want to wait until tomorrow to paint. If I want to blend some paint the next day I just add a little more paint and blend.

Painting is my hobby... whenever I have some time. I'm truly an amateur, an apprentice if you like, still have a lot to learn. I've seen some of your videos. They were inspiring, shall we say. The method you created was nice, even though demanding in terms of time and insistence until you would start to get a hold of it. I've improved a lot in terms of colour mixing and getting the "right colour" instead of the one that seemingly I wanted. 😏🤭😊 I thank you for that. Once, I saw in one of your older videos Mark, you were using a medium called "DELQ" medium. What exactly is that ? Is it home made, and if yes, what is it made of ? Or is it a secret recipe ? The only thing I remember, if I'm not mistaken, is that it had clove oil, which delays the time for the paint to dry. Can you or anyone help me please, and give me a clue ? Thank you.

Mark is so great. He's like a psychiatrist for painters. Sometimes I have a string of really great paintings then I hit one where I mash up the colors, I hate the lights, whatever. Take a breath, come back to drawmixpaint, watch the advise videos and suddenly things are back on track. Breath in...breath out...watch drawmixpaint.

That's because you say all the nice things about AI art as reference material. Confirmation bias! All joking aside: You're clearly the winner. Sure there are other painters who utilize elements (like how to modernize your studio to make more realistic art with no brush strokes, or reviews on different paint companies and their complex history and comparing different paints of the "same" name, etc), but overall, your tutorials capture precisely the sort of mindframe to help newbies like me develop their own style and technique. Plus your no-nonsense approach and open mind with paint (as well as pragmatic/realistic look at the complexities of art history and application) makes you the best most digestible teacher I've experienced. Your channel (along with Florent Farges channel) has taken away hours of painting technique speculation by directly answering questions for problems I didn't even know could be problems. I mean, who would've guessed the solution to colors dulling out and looking flat due to "drying" is to add a thin layer of linseed oil over it ("Oiling out") to refresh the colors? I would've quit. Heck, even the simple statement "Hey so depending on the color, you might need to oil out 3-4 times repeatedly, but eventually the color WILL keep the oil and remain good. Just keep it up." was incredibly helpful, and saved me hours of trial and error. I cherish this video, and your modern/forward thinking towards a lot of painting techniques and approaches. Thank you.

Mark is the only one I’ve seen talking about lot about using A.I to create reference pictures. It’s like a mutual appreciation society. However marks vids are helpful particularly for colour mixing as A.I says. Other goodies on KZbin include: Andrew tischler Stephen bauman Florent farges Ben lustenhouwer Apologies for any misspelling

Nvidia Nemotron = #4 Mark Carder. Realism Level: 9/10. Beginner Friendliness: 6/10 (More challenging for complete beginners due to the high level of detail). Focus: Highly realistic oil painting, primarily landscapes and still-life. Teaching Style: Detailed, methodical, and focuses on achieving realism through layering and glazing.

With great respect to Mark, if highly realistic oil painting on YT is the sole criteria here then Michael James Smith is the top. There's also a Dutch guy here who is great on realistic skies. Both Mark, and James Gurney, give an overall more balanced view on all aspects of painting. Beginners should, however, be careful of what they wish for - watching someone painting highly realistic scenes is, by definition, a long boring business. Maybe start with fun loose painting and then later swing more toward that.

Depends what your style is, but I've learned how to oil paint from KZbin over the last 4 years. These are my top people Light pondering Ian roberts Our painted lives Nick Thurman Adam westenberger James gurney Adam tishler Chelsea Lang Nickolas from " our painted lives" is hands down my favorite channel on KZbin. He has an interesting vlog where he paints everyday for like 3 years, and his art history is on point. The teaching comes from watching his videos. And by far the best drawing channel is jeff watts personally. Obviously DMP is on there if your starting out. I watch every video but I do not use his approach anymore, to rigid for my style at the moment. And for any of you art history people- blind dweller is really cool. These are MY preferences, that reflect MY painting practice, and everyone will differ. I hope these channels can enrich your lives they way it helped mine. Happy painting !

@alex24mamba I think you misunderstand: I love this channel, and I know for sure it's helped a lot of people, myself included. I just don't know why we need to use ai (the thing that scrapes artists work and is currently causing them to lose work) as a marketing gimmick. I want human art, and human opinions of art and art education. Using ai feels cheap.
@alex24mamba5 күн бұрын
@rhineville ohh I see.. yeah, I mean it's a moral thing for me. And honestly I can tell if an artist uses AI when it comes to figures in the composition. It's very lazy indeed.

Sounds speciesist to me. AI is just a tool and does nothing more or less than any artist out there. We learn from our experiences. Humans are not special in art.

As a human being, I will say that Mark Carder is the best teacher. I haven't tried other teachers methods because Mark's method worked very rapidly for me. Basically, my very first painting looked like realism.
