I’m preparing to install a similar Rheem so this was good. Rheem recommends a piping T on the condensate line for annual inspection and cleaning. I’m going to connect my condensate line in to my HVACs condensate line (allowable by code) so I’ll be able to flush both at the same time once a year. I have to install an expansion tank so mounting that will be a challenge.

What do I do for the gate to be at the same level with the rest of the fence, I mean, to not be sunk, so it seems no fence there. Thanks in advance.
@MrKistel13 күн бұрын
You mean you would prefer the front of the gate to be flush with the plane of the fence? If so, you could hinge from the front face of the gate, but the gate would have to open outward. Framing could be modified or even blocked out to fill the space from the hinge plane if the hinges are left are on the back of the gate.

@@MrKistel Yes, the front flush with the fence, gate opens to outside and hidden hinges. I can not find a video that does so.

great video...how are the hvac bills now compared to the gas system and old unit
@MrKistel15 күн бұрын
Thank you. The new system replaced old electrical powered system. The old system consumed considerably more power based on my meter readings discussed in the video. That being said, electricity used on heating and cooling this house should be substantially less with this more efficient system.
@mikeerin503117 күн бұрын
Definitely need to install some electrical tape or heat shrink over those electrical connections with the lugs on them.

You should not pull the air from inside that room directly. Use foam board or drywall with pookie (duct mastic) on seams to do the returns.
@MrKistel17 күн бұрын
I didn't see an issue pulling air from the room as it has vented pathways to other areas of the house. Is there a potential issue I am missing? Thanks for the insight.

I can't believe how easy you made it to properly fix our bathroom drains. Comments below suggest slow drains are common in new homes. Based on what I found in ours, it looks like compounds for finishing drywall or installing tile are finding their way into traps under drains during construction.

Why did you prefer epoxy over mechanical anchoring, for example double expansion, or something similar?
@MrKistel18 күн бұрын
The concrete was just recently poured and these bolts were being placed near the edge. I thought expansion bolts could possibly create a risk of cracking the concrete.

This is what the previous owner of my house should have done. But they instead built a sleeper floor over top of the sloped porch along the front 6 feet of my house. After they poured just the footers for the new front wall. But of course, the front of my house is slightly below grade so there was water intrusion that was eating some of the wood. Now I get to install a french drain, regrade my front yard, and figure out how to put back the floor they built. I would LOVE to pour up to my existing slab like you did here, but it is roughly 6x30 feet and that is a whole lot of concrete to mix in the winter in Maryland.

For a fence or something not as structural as a deck, could you spray wood hardener to solidify the wood, fill the gap with expanding foam, sand the foam down a little and cover with gap filler, sand the gap filler and paint?

You mixed this much drier ( less water) than your original slab. Was there any reason for that?
@MrKistel26 күн бұрын
When possible, I would try to mix the concrete (as close to possible) with the amount of water the directions stated on the bag of concrete. This would result in a vary dry appearing mix that was very difficult to work with. I was likely just inconsistent between pours. The concept is the concrete would be ultimately stronger with the stiffer, less water mix, but easier to apply with a wetter mix (which likely sacrifices concrete strength). In my experience, it seems nearly impossible to mix concrete with the minimal amount water advised and that additional water is needed to make the concrete workable. For my light load concrete applications, like foot traffic slabs, the concrete strength has still always been adequate even when I have used more water than stated. Fore concrete structures that will sustain more critical loads, it is more important to keep the water to concrete mix ration more exact.
@Rellikman27 күн бұрын
Every wall needs the support of a foundation. This only has a slab. Tell me, how can this be proper to code if you don’t have a foundation with a footing deeper than your frost depth. You live in a warm climate?
@MrKistel27 күн бұрын
There is an existing foundation under the original porch concrete slab. It was originally designed to hold the weight of the roof above.
@Rellikman27 күн бұрын
You don’t show this, this is vital to show because you’re going to have your viewers thinking they can just fasten walls to any slab.

Or, buy a second hand concrete mixer for $250 and mix 2-3 bags at a time with very little effort?
@MrKistel26 күн бұрын
For smaller projects I think I still prefer the drill over the mixer. Mixers are big and cumbersome that require extra logistical efforts to incorporate and storage space if you buy one.
@stevewort26 күн бұрын
@@MrKistel that all depends how you define “smaller” I would argue that anything over 5-10 bags becomes a larger project and using a mixer (even if you just rent one for a day ) is going to be quicker, and less effort?
