You mean journey to hell. The adjective “apocryphal” has come to be applied to those books that DO NOT bear the marks of divine inspiration. SO, why would Catholics boast of having them in their bible?! Because they support their LIES. This is where they get their doctrines! READ ON BUT NOTE, Jesus and his Disciples Never Quoted from Apocrypha: Jesus Christ and his inspired New Testament penmen quoted from the writings and events of the Old Testament profusely. Some thousand quotations or allusions from thirty-five of the thirty-nine Old Testament books are found in the New Testament record. And yet, not once of these any "apocryphal" books that Catholics use are quoted or even explicitly referred to by the Lord or by any New Testament writer! Ample evidence not inspired by God: Creation Contradiction: Rather than the creation being spoken into existence from nothing by the word of Almighty God, as affirmed in the Scriptures (Gen. 1:1; Psa. 33:6-9; Heb. 11:3), the Apocrypha has God creating the world out of “formless matter” (Wisdom of Solomon 11:17). False Doctrines: The Apocrypha teaches the erroneous doctrine of the pre-existence of the soul, suggesting that the kind of body one now has is determined by the character of his soul in a previous life Now I was a goodly child, and a good soul fell to my lot; Nay rather, being good, I came into a body undefiled” (Wisdom of Solomon 8:19-20). The foregoing was a common belief among heathen peoples, but certainly it is contrary to the biblical view that the soul of man is formed with him at conception (Psa. 139:13-16; Zech. 12:1). Praying for the Dead: The Apocrypha teaches that prayer may be made for the dead: “Wherefore he made the propitiation for them that had died, that they might be released from their sins” (2 Maccabees 12:45). Roman Catholics cite this passage to find support for their dogma of praying for the dead to be released from purgatory, but the effort is vain. Obviously there’s no New Testament passage to buttress the notion. Alms for Sins: The Apocrypha suggests that one may atone for his sins by the giving of alms: “It is better to give alms than to lay up gold: alms doth deliver from death, and it shall purge away all sin” (Tobit 12:9). Contradictions Contradictions With Itself: There are two contradictory accounts of the death of Antiochus Epiphanes, that dreaded enemy of the Jews. One narrative records that Antiochus and his company were “cut to pieces in the temple of Nanaea by the treachery of Nanaea’s priests” (2 Maccabees 1:13-16), while another version in the same book states that Antiochus was “taken with a noisome sickness” and so “ended his life among the mountains by a most piteous fate in a strange land” (2 Maccabees 9:19-29 The Suspect Morality of the Apocrypha The moral tone of the Apocrypha is far below that of the Bible. Note some examples: Suicide Noble? The apocrypha applauds suicide as a noble and manful act. Second Maccabees tells of one Razis who, being surrounded by the enemy, fell upon his sword, choosing “rather to die nobly” than to fall into the hands of his enemy. He was not mortally wounded, however, and so threw himself down from a wall and “manfully” died among the crowds (14:41-43). Magical Potions: It describes magical potions which are alleged to drive demons away (Tobit 6:1-17). Murder Applauded: The murder of the men of Shechem (Gen. 34), an act of violence which is condemned in the Scriptures (cf. Gen. 49:6-7), is commended and is described as an act of God (Judith 9:2-9). These, along with various other considerations, lead only to the conclusion that the Apocrypha cannot be included in the volume of sacred Scripture. Members of the Roman Catholic Church often note with pride, that their version of the Bible contains more books than standard translations used by non-Catholics. There are several reasons why the Apocrypha is to be rejected as part of the Bible. The Catholic Church is a religious mixture of seemingly pious worship toward the Creator, yet underneath the façade is every abomination imaginable, and pagan influences. It's a religious hypocrisy and self-righteousness at its worst!

Scott, Nobody has missed any of those texts - we all know exactly what they say. The problem is you were a young confused man - you weren't really a presbyterian pastor - you were barely out of seminary - And very gullible it appears.

The notion of Scott Hahn being some sort of presbyterian pastor is silly - at 29 he was barely out a seminary and if he was involved in any sort of pastorate it was at such basic level that seems a disingenuous if not a little dishonest to sort of set him up as being some big pastor who was well ensconced in a career at cetera

I listen to Scott Hahn and it's not surprising that he was able to become disoriented - he was a young very confused man who did not know The Bible and did not really know God as far as I can tell and so he was easily duped by very specious sorts of sentiment.

It seems Hahn's failure was putting in a stock in the earlier church writers as if they had some sort of magic insight when in fact these men often were simply lost in their own religious ego and would spin tales and fantasies and superstitions that were really unparalleled and today would be easily rejected by anyone. Yet somehow Scott Hahn thought that they had some value and he used those as authoritative - that's very sad.

Pharisee: Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? -Christ Jesus our Lord By Grace are ye saved, through faith, that not of yourselves, it the gift of God. And not of works, lest any man should boast. Eph 2:8-9 Brother, if we have faith in the word of God, with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, then we will, as the Lord is with us, bring about many great works.. Not to be saved but because we are saved. Neither shall the Christian man bow down to graven idols and dead relics, nor worship Mary as God, for holy, holy, holy is the Lord, and we have but one God. Nor will you find anywhere in the bible this blasphemous fetal sprinkling or 'infant baptism' the Romanites do, was our Lord 'baptized' by a few drops of water from the baptistery? God forbid.

The Catholic Church would agree with you that we are not saved by our dead works, but rather by grace through a living faith. However, what kind of faith? “A faith working in love.” Gal 5:6. “You see then that a man is justified by works (love) and not by faith alone.” Jam 2:24 “If I have a faith that can move mountains but no love, then I am nothing.”1Cor 13:2, “Depart from me...into the eternal fire...For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink...” Matt 25:41-42 This has always been the historic Church’s position on justification and salvation. The notion that faith alone will save us is a relatively modern interpretation. The Catholic Church would also agree with you that worshipping Mary as God, or worshipping Mary full stop, is a grave sin. The Church imitates Christ in venerating her with all the honour that the Queen Mother, Ark of the Covenant, and the new Eve deserves. But the Church could never come close to matching how perfectly Christ obeyed the 4th commandment. You’re right that Christ was never baptised as an infant with a few drops of water. The Catholic Church acknowledges that baptism by full immersion is a more perfect symbol of dying and rising again in Christ. However, the Church has always taught that baptism is a sacrament, the means by which we are born again. So whether one is dunked under or sprinkled with a few drops, what’s important is that we are “born again of water and the Spirit.” John 3:5

@DMCTrader1 It, the Eucharist, is food for our soul. Kind of like the miracle that Jesus performed on the mountain turning a few loaves of bread and a couple fish to feed a huge crowd. This would be an example of regular food, and I think after this miracle he says to the crowd that their soul needs food or nourishment that no earthly food can satiate.

As a former non-practicing Catholic, I can honestly say that coming back to the catholic faith wasn't easy to do because of various reasons. Some of my friends from my public high school weren't the best good influence on me. So I had to figure it out on my own. And soon after I left high school in 2009, I began to reconnect my faith. And on Easter Vigil 2010 I made my confirmation. And the priest who annointed me was filled with tears of joy and so was I. And today I try to inspire people at work to follow Christ. Some of them have already but the rest think it's all nonsense.

John 6 has nothing to do with eating Jesus? "“Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. " Are we reading the same document? Exactly how is his flesh "true food", but not food?

Converting from Protestantism to Catholicism is nonsense .Those who don't have commitment to Jesus Christ and for that matter to truth convert to Catholicism which entertains and practices all kinds of abominations aound the world. In some cases the abominations are even worse than that of heathens-in Asia, Africa ,S. America etc. Many Protestants generally consider themselves to be more liberal and consider Catholics also as true Christians but most Catholics and the Catholic church do not think that way. So, in effect those who convert from Protestantism to Catholics convert from inclusiveness to exclusiveness and from truth to more lies.

Gavoora123 That's very misinformed. Seeing as Catholics assembled the bible, protestants have since removed 5 books from it, and that the Mass contains more scripture than most protestant services. Protestants trend to know the bible better but it's all they have. Catholics have bible + tradition. However most ppl steeped in the bible neither know greek or Hebrew and are interpreting based on others translations and assumptions. "Beware of the person of one book." St. Thomas Aquinas

The sabbath day is not related to sin, and was created by Christ himself (John 1:3) for the benefit of man (Matthew 12:8), no only for the Jews. It is the only day blessed and sanctified (set apart for sacred use) by God.. Who do you think was going to keep it holy? God or man? Remember, God is holy per se, man is not. So, man was to observe the sabbath (saturday) even in the world to come: "and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord" Isa. 66:23

Here's a simple question . . . Was the Church established by Jesus a "Bible-based" Church or a Sacramental Church? Read the book of Acts. Read the writings of the earliest Christians. Learn how the early Christians worshiped and what they believed. You'll quickly see that they were all thoroughly Catholic and none of the Protestant heresies of the past 500 years existed.
@WorkingCatholic
@WorkingCatholic 11 жыл бұрын
"God’s people in the first three centuries after Christ universally accepted what we now know as the New Testament." No they didn't. None of the books of the NT were written before 50 AD, and Revelation wasn't written until near the end of the first century. Later, there were hundreds of books that various groups considered "inspired." There was much consensus on some books and much disagreement on others until the Catholic Church settled the matter near the end of the 4th century.

You have shown my assumptions to be true. First, you do not understand scripture. Secondly, you do not understand the teachings of the one and only Church established by Jesus Christ and guided by the Holy Spirit. And more recently, you've shown that you do not understand Church history. I don't blame you. There are millions who have been misled by the man-made Protestant religions that have replaced Christ's teachings with their misunderstandings of Sacred Scripture and traditions of men.

Pat 1 I thought if you responded at all, it would be to debate my claims, but I agree with everything you wrote. Everything you wrote is completely consistent with Catholic teachings. Of course, that is to be expected since you primarily quoted from the NT that the Catholic Church canonized and gave to the world. However, though everything you wrote is true, I suspect you don't understand the verses you quoted--otherwise you would already be a Catholic.
@WorkingCatholic
@WorkingCatholic 11 жыл бұрын
Part 2 For instance, all of verses you quote emphasize belief in Christ. However, can you really claim to believe in Christ if you don't even believe what He said? You quoted from Jn 6:47. You must read scripture with blinders on in order to pluck this verse out of Jesus' Eucharistic discourse and totally miss His point. Your sole focus is on the fact that He says you must believe in Him, but then you ignore His message. Jesus says six times that you must eat His flesh to have eternal life.
@WorkingCatholic
@WorkingCatholic 11 жыл бұрын
Part 3 This is how you could show that you really believe in Him--by following His command as Catholics have done for 2000 yrs. Every Christian in history believed Jesus until less than 500 yrs ago when some Protestants began teaching that the Eucharist is not real--that it is only a symbol. Was every Christian in history wrong? Your ancestors believed. You claim to believe in Jesus, but then you stop short of full belief because "this is a hard saying." (60) Follow Jesus' teachings, not men's.

I agree with you 100 percent: Jesus did not lie. I never said He did! The Church WILL be with us until the end of time. But the Novus Ordo sect is not what He spoke of in that passage. "Actually, the Novus Ordo church is in SERIOUS error!" Well, if you're right, I guess Jesus was wrong. No offense, but I think I'm going to side with Jesus on this one.

"We are now taught that there is absolutely no need to be Catholic" Who is teaching that? Not Christ, and not His Church. Jesus said we must eat His Flesh and drink His Blood to have eternal life.
