I live Scott Hahn, and his wife, very much, too. It's wonderful to have him and so many others on networks like EWTN, where we can relax and enjoy the teachings of the Church, knowing they will be faithfully represented....not twisted to fit into the speaker's understanding.

As a former non-practicing Catholic, I can honestly say that coming back to the catholic faith wasn't easy to do because of various reasons. Some of my friends from my public high school weren't the best good influence on me. So I had to figure it out on my own. And soon after I left high school in 2009, I began to reconnect my faith. And on Easter Vigil 2010 I made my confirmation. And the priest who annointed me was filled with tears of joy and so was I. And today I try to inspire people at work to follow Christ. Some of them have already but the rest think it's all nonsense.

Dr. Hahn got it so right. For an honest Christian who knows the Bible, prays with it, lives with it will certainly accept that the Mass is complete in Christ presence and scripturaly saturated.

my fellow Christians let me tell you a story that I heard that really spoke to me. St. Francis wanted some lettuce planted so he told one of his brothers to plant the lettuce seeds, but upside-down. The brother went to plant the seeds but said to himself, Brother Francis doesn't know what he is talking about so he planted them right-side up. When the lettuce grew up he took it to Brother Francis and then Brother Francis asked how did you get this wonderful lettuce?....(this is continued...)

Pharisee: Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? -Christ Jesus our Lord By Grace are ye saved, through faith, that not of yourselves, it the gift of God. And not of works, lest any man should boast. Eph 2:8-9 Brother, if we have faith in the word of God, with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, then we will, as the Lord is with us, bring about many great works.. Not to be saved but because we are saved. Neither shall the Christian man bow down to graven idols and dead relics, nor worship Mary as God, for holy, holy, holy is the Lord, and we have but one God. Nor will you find anywhere in the bible this blasphemous fetal sprinkling or 'infant baptism' the Romanites do, was our Lord 'baptized' by a few drops of water from the baptistery? God forbid.

The Catholic Church would agree with you that we are not saved by our dead works, but rather by grace through a living faith. However, what kind of faith? “A faith working in love.” Gal 5:6. “You see then that a man is justified by works (love) and not by faith alone.” Jam 2:24 “If I have a faith that can move mountains but no love, then I am nothing.”1Cor 13:2, “Depart from me...into the eternal fire...For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink...” Matt 25:41-42 This has always been the historic Church’s position on justification and salvation. The notion that faith alone will save us is a relatively modern interpretation. The Catholic Church would also agree with you that worshipping Mary as God, or worshipping Mary full stop, is a grave sin. The Church imitates Christ in venerating her with all the honour that the Queen Mother, Ark of the Covenant, and the new Eve deserves. But the Church could never come close to matching how perfectly Christ obeyed the 4th commandment. You’re right that Christ was never baptised as an infant with a few drops of water. The Catholic Church acknowledges that baptism by full immersion is a more perfect symbol of dying and rising again in Christ. However, the Church has always taught that baptism is a sacrament, the means by which we are born again. So whether one is dunked under or sprinkled with a few drops, what’s important is that we are “born again of water and the Spirit.” John 3:5

Look, I don't want to suffer any more than anyone else. In fact, I personally genuinely DISLIKE suffering. But there is no doubt that suffering will come....it is unavoidable due either to my sin, the sin of others or unrelated circumstances. Thanks be to God that the CC shows me how to take what would have been mere dumb endurance and turn it into something that benefits all of humanity. If I have to suffer, at least I am empowered to turn it to good for myself and for the whole world.

In these clips Hahn speaks about the real presence in the Lord's supper and of baptism as uniting us with Christ, not only a symbol. Makes me wonder why he did not look into Lutheranism. He does talk about pergatory too, but then he does not quote the text (1 Cor 3), but only refers to it. It does not speak about being pured in fire or suffering, only about being saved but having ones work being burnt (and in context it's about those who are building the congregation by teaching it).

@mandy718 Amen! The nature of authority is the first topic that should be brought to the table of dialogue between Catholics and Protestants. Hi, bobby t. It's a good question. I haven't personally heard Dr. Hahn say that, but he has a style of using genesis (and the rest of the old testament) to make points about catholic teachings, so it's possible that he wasn't being literal. I'm not sure. I've heard Father Barron and others say that genesis is not meant to be taken literally but to be used to understand theological truths. God bless you.

@RIMBR I don't believe my statement was ignorant, as it was a point that Dr. Hahn made in his talk about his own conversion experience. Catholics believe that authority of the earthly church rests in both scripture and apostolic authority of the Catholic Church, while Protestants believe in the "priesthood of all believers" and their freedom to interpret the bible. You did not even make an attempt to point out to me why you thought my statement was a misconception.
@dallas99813 жыл бұрын
There is an excellent book by Carl Keating which addresses directly the non-Catholic tendency to discard all sources besides the Bible. Not enough room here to even discuss this statement, however, the book is: Catholicism and Fundamentalism: The Attack on "Romanism" by Bible Christians Maybe the ideas as put forward in this book will add depth to your inquiry.

Here's a simple question . . . Was the Church established by Jesus a "Bible-based" Church or a Sacramental Church? Read the book of Acts. Read the writings of the earliest Christians. Learn how the early Christians worshiped and what they believed. You'll quickly see that they were all thoroughly Catholic and none of the Protestant heresies of the past 500 years existed.

What about Mt 7:21, Mt 19:16-17, Mt 6:15, Jn 6:48-58, Phil 2:12-13, Eph 2:10, Rom 2:13? Plenty more if you want?

Part 3 This is how you could show that you really believe in Him--by following His command as Catholics have done for 2000 yrs. Every Christian in history believed Jesus until less than 500 yrs ago when some Protestants began teaching that the Eucharist is not real--that it is only a symbol. Was every Christian in history wrong? Your ancestors believed. You claim to believe in Jesus, but then you stop short of full belief because "this is a hard saying." (60) Follow Jesus' teachings, not men's.

I would suggest also searching for the 5 video series from Alex Jones on youtube & listen to this former protestant minister. He learned Greek, etc. to study the ancient writings left behind by the early Christians. He found the teaching to all be in line w/ the Catholic church & he was scared. Go ahead & listen, what can it hurt? I really dont think that Jesus wanted to create confusion when he said the pillar of truth is the church. If its all so easy then interpret it the way Jesus said it.

@rtarasiak Mary isn't a goddess, it was the redeeming act of the Cross working backwards to save Mary from sin. (God IS the Author of Time.) I hope this clarifies and if you have any more questions you can PM me if you want. :)

@WorkingCatholic Actually, Peter talks about the "unstable who distort Scripture to their own destruction" (1 Peter 2:10). Protestant's are definitely unstable. Ask the individual Protestant what his doctrine about the Eucharist is, then ask him six months later. I would be you see some shift in their doctrine. That sounds unstable to me.
