For a game with a relatively small budget attempting to revive a rather niche game series, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom sure got some big talent for its soundtrack! This track really feels like it would play in a final dungeon from the Ys series. The composer is Yūzō Koshiro, who actually has worked on Ys in the past, though not for some time. Either way, I’m always down for a climactic-feeling electric guitar.

Catchy tune. The N64 has a Waialae golf game as well (it's very cheap!), but I had no idea that it was on the SNES as well.

Here’s a track from an obscure game that I bet only appealed to a very niche audience. It’s surprising enough to learn that the SNES had a whole line of golf games set at real life country clubs, but even more surprising to learn there is another, separate title on the N64 taking place at this same Hawaiian country club. It’s, naturally, called Waialae Country Club: True Golf Classics. Anyway, regardless of the game itself, this main theme is undeniably catchy, with the perfect laidback tropical beat for a Hawaiian vacation.

Prodigal was such a surprise to me last year and I still think it might be the single most underrated indie game I’ve ever played. I really need to play Curse Crackers, its followup in the same universe, as well as Veritus, its proper sequel which just released this week. Apart from this game’s incredibly well-designed dungeons and expressive character designs, its other highlight is its super catchy soundtrack. It’s mostly chiptune-based, with other instruments leaking in. Prodigal’s postgame content is extensive, and this comes from a great example - The Backrooms are the second casino-based dungeon you visit, and the “Enlightened” version is a remix of _that_ which comes even later. I love its jazzy theme, especially the Enlightened version which adds an even bigger sound and some pseudo vocals. It starts at 1:32. Check the description for a link to the soundtrack.

Wow, I completely forgot this song existed! It's too bad the console Pokemon games these days didn't take more inspiration from these GameCube titles. Or at the very least, continue this spin-off series alongside the main series.

It would be hard for me to pick my favorite Ace Attorney game, but The Great Ace Attorney is definitely up there. Now that the last of them have been announced for re-release, more people will be able to experience the entire series and pick a favorite. I can say with certainty that it has my favorite soundtrack of the whole franchise - the full orchestration and frequently Gothic feel really help set the mood. Just like every other Ace Attorney game, the Objection and Pursuit themes are highlights, so here’s the former. It doesn’t get old even through 2 games’ worth of cases!

I really appreciated these games' willingness to experiment with the Pokemon formula, and lament TPCI didn't keep this side series alive, not even in spirit. We got a bit of a focus on double battles in the Indigo Disk DLC, and we got a bit of the darker vibes of the Pokemon world in Legends: Arceus, but I always liked how the GameCube games combined these two elements, giving a unique experience that explores the rougher side of the Pokemon world and shakes up the gameplay by focusing on the often ignored double battle system. I wish another game like that would eventually pop up. The Krabby Klub theme stands out to me even ton this day because they had no reason to give this random place its own jazzy theme. But they did, and it's details like that that end up sticking in players' minds and make them remember otherwise forgettable locations.

I’ve uploaded a few tracks from Pokémon Colosseum, so it’s time to give its sequel some attention. I think both of these games are some of the franchise’s black sheep, but I always appreciate when Nintendo is willing to let other developers try something different with Pokémon and the darker tone is refreshing. This jazzy theme is certainly as catchy as anything from the main games!
@kcbreadroll
@kcbreadroll 6 күн бұрын
Thanks for the upload! (This is KCKaiser, albeit on an alternate account, I’m a breadroll now). Pokémon Colosseum and XD were in fact not developed by Gamefreak, they were developed by Genius Sonority, which is probably why they were so refreshing to play. Sadly Genius Sonority was never again given the development of an ambitious story based Pokémon game, instead they did smaller projects such as Pokemon Battle Revolution, that one Pokemon typing game, Pokemon Shuffle and now Pokemon Cafe Remix. I don’t play much Pokemon nowadays but I feel like it’s been a bit of a tradition for me to occasionally pop in and recommend a Pokemon song. How about “An Eternal Prison” from X/Y? It plays during a sudden flashback/exposition scene, covering surprisingly dark topics for a mainline game. I feel like X/Y’s story was a bit of a mess, but that one scene was quite effective .

Thanks to the release of Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series, I finally got to knock some titles off my gamer bucket list and play the classic Klonoa titles. While they have shiny new graphics, almost nothing else has been changed at all, and the feeling of 90s era PlayStation is definitely preserved here, for better or worse. As someone with no history with or nostalgia for the series, I feel like I can give a fairly unbiased opinion here. On the whole, I found both titles to be solid platformers, with a unique dreamlike feel that you just don’t get from modern games. The enemy grabbing mechanic, while simple, is also cleverly implemented and leads to a different type of platforming. Of course, the best aspect has got to be its adorable character design, especially Klonoa himself. However, I did find parts of both games to be exceptionally clunky, with certain extremely frustrating segments that are clearly unpolished. I guess that’s what I get for playing a game that’s 25+ years old! Anyway, the soundtrack is another area these games stand out in. They certainly have a unique vibe that fits the dreamy feel of the game and makes me nostalgic for this era of games. This theme, not so much, but it’s just so dang catchy that it made the difficult level it plays in worth it.

This Way Madness Lies is the newest game from Zeboyd, most known for Cthulhu Saves the World. I don’t know much about it, but the premise is certainly intriguing, with it starring high school theater kids who are also magical girls. That’s certainly unique enough to shake off the usual RPG Maker tedium. In any case, the soundtrack is excellent, featuring the same composer as Cthulhu Saves Christmas. I especially like how many tracks have vocals in them! Check the description for a link to the soundtrack.

Though it still ultimately felt a little too familiar to the usual Kirby formula, Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s move to 3D did help to shake things up just enough, and I hope future Kirby games expand on this further. Anyone else wishing for a 3D Kirby game with truly open levels, like Mario? In any case, it’s tradition in all Kirby games that the endgame stuff is by far the most interesting and enjoyable, and this was no exception. I loved all the content that opened up after beating the final boss - this theme plays continually during the remixed stages that you visit, and I love its gentle piano and mysterious energy.

I first played this last year, but have been interested in the Persona series since 2008, back when I was in high school. My family didn't have enough money for me to get a PlayStation, I only had Nintendo consoles growing up. When I started to work, after I saved a decent amount of money, I bought myself a PS4 with Persona 5 Royal back in 2020 and I loved the series as much as I thought I would. I also got 4 Golden on Steam but kinda forgot about it because life got busy, but when it came out for Switch I bought it again there, played it there, and don't even regret buying the game twice lol. Needless to say this song is engraved in my mind after 80 hours spent within Inaba, whenever I hear it I feel so chill~

I’ve uploaded so much from it, but there are still plenty of great tracks remaining. The vocal songs featuring Shihoko Hirata are always so feel-good and uplifting, so here’s another classic that anyone who’s played Persona 4 should be intimately familiar with!

Islets is a very traditional Metroidvania, but I still had a great time with it. Developer Kyle Thompson’s previous game, Sheepo, was a Metroidvania that I loved for being able to complete in a single sitting - while Islets isn’t quite that short, it’s still very bite sized and fast-moving. The colorful visuals are gorgeous and everything is surprisingly polished for a sole developer, save for some grammatical errors in the text. Perhaps the most interesting thing this game does involves its titular islets: they initially exist as five separate maps, but as you activate the core on each one they combine together until you’re left with one large, interconnected map. Just like Sheepo, the soundtrack is very lo-fi, which is not exactly my favorite type of music but does a great job building a relaxing mood. This theme for the sky “hub” that connects the five islands is especially soothing.

This was such a fantastic puzzle game that I missed out on last year, and one I’d highly recommend. You work your way up a tower where each level contains a different society of people, with their own language of glyphs. Using a lot of clever context clues, you need to decipher all these different languages and solve related puzzles. It starts simple, but it ramps up in complexity, especially when you need to remember multiple languages at once, complete with their own grammatical structures and writing styles. I’d describe it as a cross between Heaven’s Vault and The Case of the Golden Idol, and I loved it just as much as those titles. The soundtrack is definitely more on the atmospheric side, but it’s hard not to appreciate long and complex tracks like this one. Check the description for a link to the soundtrack.

This was an extremely solid retro-style 3D platformer that was over too quickly. I loved each of its themed worlds, but my favorite was definitely the food-themed fourth world. It had a cool mechanic where platforms switch to the beat of the music, just like in many newer Mario titles. I think it’s funny that the rest of the soundtrack is a more nostalgic, Dreamcast-inspired affair, but this one world has this very out-of-place electroswing tune! It definitely makes sure you can feel the beat, and it stands out for it. Check the description for a link to the soundtrack.

Just a week ago, I gushed over how Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is one of my favorite RPGs of all time. That game is 20 years old, yet in all that time the only other game to even approach the feel and quality of TTYD is Bug Fables. That should be extremely high praise for an indie game made by a much smaller team, and I’m confident it was made by developers who love Paper Mario just as much as I do. And its soundtrack is excellent - I cannot believe that composer Tristan Alric hasn’t composed for any other games. Here’s yet another battle theme that I fell in love with as soon as it first played. Check the description for a link to the soundtrack.

HECK YEEEAAAHHSSSSS Tef me, I love everything about Pseudo. His profoundly ugly and uncanny design, his voice, his script and lines, his attitude of "get out there to get stuff done", the wisdom and sass and space for levity he does have, his story and his m u s i c. An entire trilogy of themes. And Pseudo's Theme is RIGHT up there with all the stuff usually associated with Darksiders, DMC, God of War, Bayonetta etc. for me. Pseudo is the coolest martial artist caveman monster abomination around and I really hope many more people may find themselves in Zenozoik and be in fright, disbelief, ridicule, wonder, interest and love with it.
