I remember having something like this, but it was a purple lightning EMD GP15 with a matching caboose I believe, I painted them in a very bad BNSF livery 2 years ago, but I would like to learn what it was. If anyone knows what it was/is, please tell me in the replies

I'm addicted to these things, I started collecting them every year since 2020 but I 've also been collecting one from years past in the off season. Though 2 of my biggest gripes with them is the fact that every time they release a steam engine, the tender is sold as if it's a separate car. That and the newer ones don't have working valve gear anymore.

Some of these reminded me of how of the 5 times I bought trains either from a store or from someone on ebay or something. Only 2 of them weren't a scam. 3 of them were listed as working or the shop keeper said it ran and I put them on my layout and they either had a cracked gear, rotted rubber band, or STARTED SMOKING. no returns obv. Only backmann would put a rubber band as the main drive in a 150 dollar spectrum model (bachmann spectrum Baldwin 2-8-0 B&O)
@cobramerciless
@cobramerciless 5 күн бұрын
It’s not a rubber band. It’s a belt drive, there is a big difference. I’ve rarely heard of a failure and it’s a fairly easy fix

@cobramerciless too late I just sold it to a shop for 40 bucks. It was actually way cheaper of a model than I thought and I'm giving up in HO scale anyway. It's all so tediously unreliable and I swear u gotta service it every 15 minutes and clean the track even more regularly. I'm switching to O scale....
@string1235
@string1235 5 күн бұрын
And yes im saying it's bachmann's fault. The track and engines are just pathetic quality. One of my steam engine's cylinders fell off when it was diverted into a siding at full speed and into a box car. How the hell did it completely ruin the 75 dollar model. Now I'm just sad I have all these HO trains and no track to run it on cuz backmann track warps and rusts so fast and their so needy I just can't keep up with the little resources I have to service them. Meanwhile I take my grandma's old lionel out of the attic that's been sitting for 2 decades and plop it on it's track and it just goes like I just bought it back in the 70s or 80s when it was made.

@@string1235 never had any of these issues. Bachmann builds locomotives in ho that are tougher than anyone else, maybe collisions aren’t the best thing for them 🤷‍♂️
@string1235
@string1235 5 күн бұрын
@@cobramerciless yeah but if they were so tough they wouldn't decintegrate from a single collision a month after I got it under its own speed. That's what im trying to say. Doesn't matter now anyway.

I know I'm a little bit late but I'm working on a 4x8 and I have a FasTrack layout with two switches spuring inward of an oval but I'm planning on adding a figure 8 as an upper loop. I think the the upper figure 8 with a oval with a few switches would be perfect

My thoughts: -Price is a barrier to entry, but it's always been one. Adjusted for inflation, those toy-grade Tyco and Life-Like sets retailed for $300-500+. There's more competition now, from electronic toys. -The worst part of the hobby is how it's become "competitive collecting". Everything is now pre-orders and super limited runs, and it's really frustrating when you look something up and it's either COMING SOON (delivery in 2 years) or SOLD OUT, and the thing you looked up either doesn't exist in a form you can just buy today, or it's old tooling decorated for the wrong railway. -Model railroaders as a whole (not every individual) take themselves and the hobby too seriously. We're (mostly, let's be honest lol) boys playing with expensive toys. Corvettes, Harleys, bass boats, 4 wheelers, gaming PCs... they're all toys too. Embrace playing with trains.

@@cobramerciless Thanks! Shower thoughts are the best thoughts! I'll drop one more take: Sorry Hornby, but TT scale will never take off, and like S, won't die out but have a niche following. Why? Like S, it's a " 'tweener" scale, and HO/OO is the original 'tweener scale. Every other scale fits a purpose. G: The smallest you can make a train for indoor & outdoor use O: The smallest you can make an electric train rugged enough to be a toy N: The smallest you can make a train that can have fine details Z/T: The smallest you could/can make an electric train that works. HO/OO is the balance point for ruggedness, ease of detailing, and space concerns. S... plays nice with Hot Wheels/Matchbox cars, and looks good if you have a TON of space, but isn't much easier to detail than HO, and just doesn't have the ruggedness that O does.. TT.. is harder to detail than HO and takes up more space than N- it doesn't really solve a need.

sorry I'm new to this but what a horrible experience so far with Lionel. Got my first kit as a gift for me and my new family. thought it would be cool to do for holiday set up like many ppl. So incredibly confusing, figuring out scale and what goes with what. You would think Lionel would try to explain on the website how everything works. The website is horrible and I don't think Lionel is spending any money on growing. Sadly think I'm done with the hobby before I waste anymore time figuring out basic stuff.

I’ve been collecting these Hallmark ornaments ever since I discovered their existence in 2020. I’m glad the “N scale” three sets are released so early, making them so easy to collect. Unfortunately, the late release of all the other ornaments make them much harder to get. Often times I’ll visit my local Hallmark store to look for them, only to find they’re the only ornament to have already sold out.

I recently got ahold of the Hallmark PRR torpedo ornament set from 2014. It's a neat model and a faithful replica of the original toy, as far as I know. They made a tinplate Blue Comet set as well, which also looks really nice. In terms of size it's closer to TT than N

Hey man, just wanted to let you know your video is what inspired me to get into O gauge. I was at an antique flea market and I thought of your video and that was what made me decide to pull the trigger and buy the set. I now have 6 locomotives, a 12x3 setup, and about 12 pieces of rolling stock. Progress is slow but I literally love O gauge so much. It's so much fun being able to hold an engine in your hands that you don't have to be worried about dropping/damaging, O Gauge for me has been the first time in my life for a while that I've really been excited to get a new train. So... thanks again man, and that's the story of how a random train youtuber "made me" spend hundreds of dollars on my parent's worst nightmare 😆
