I saw that 0-8-0 and was immediately reminded of TM Books, as that engine comes from an area 51 set and TM books did a little film on an Area 51 style location

I miss TM Books bro… They still upload videos once in a while and they have even worked with Lionel to make commercials. But the owner recently passed, and things just kinda slowed down. I stopped by the I Love Toy Trains store to show my support and give my best wishes to the family.

YES! I was so excited for another O gauge video to happen, even if I did wait another year! I’ve always been more into British trains and an OO gauge collector, because I’ve always viewed O gauge as the old man’s train. However, my mom recently got the LEGO orient express for me and my brother to build for the living room. And, I fell in love with their overall size! Now, that LEGO set was given to us for free, and I now don’t intend to collect any more o gauge stuff because it’s far too out of my budget to start buying multiple scales. While there are plenty of people in this community that make O gauge content, it’s all recorded in one take without much editing, persistent rambling, and in all, I just can’t sit through any of them. I love your style of video editing, where it’s in an essay format and edited throughout with multiple clips of everything. I really missed your content, this was a great watch 🙏

O gauge mentioned, let’s go! I started O gauge in mid December last year, and have 12 locomotives now. They are mostly mpc and postwar, but my most expensive engine is a 300 dollar railking Amtrak engine. The Postwar and mpc F3s are my bread and butter, having the most run time out of anything in my collection.

Considering you're not even certain if you're a train enthusiast, I'm not surprised you mistakenly thought this was a mere filler video. In all seriousness, it was fun to see your O-guage collection. Your comments on the features of the Menards hopper and your review of the Williams Madison passenger cars have me thinking about what O-gauge models I would get and whether I will be able to get out the ones I already own for Christmas (Usually we run G gauge around the Christmas tree, but I could just throw a large loop of track around the edge of a room).

I have those 5 Williams passenger cars and the reproduction of the 2332 Pennsylvania GG-1 that pulled them in one of the original Lionel sets. It makes for a very handsome and nostalgic train for a much lower price than the original Post War Lionel equivalents. Nice collection.

Owner of a 2035 here: The locking up issue is likely related to the eccentric rods, not the main rods. Mine has the weird "crescent moon" type eccentrics and they have a tendency to push themselves out of their slot and bind up. I've only owned mine a few months and already had to fix that issue once, and that's with only three or four runs under it. Later 2035s had the two tabs which are much more reliable. The binding eccentric is luckily and easy fix and I've found mine to be a very good running and strong pulling engine. As for the E unit, there's likely a problem with the gear that cycles it. Open the engine up, pull the E unit out and check the little wheel in the middle with teeth around it. They tend to get chewed up over time and become less and less reliable as such. Case in point, my 763E. The teeth on it were completely destroyed and it barely functioned. A replacement piece and some time cycling back and forth on the test track turned it into one of the most reliable E units in my fleet.

Ah yes, the follow up to the video that inspired me to get my own O Gauge stuff. My start into O Gauge was a Lionel LionChief Polar Express that I got for Christmas. The next bit of O Gauge I got was another Polar Express car (Combination Car), and the next Christmas I got an A-A F3 Warbonnet set by Williams. Fantastic recreation of the OG Lionel ones. I also got a Lionel ZW transformer, which was a VERY welcome addition. I also got a bit more FasTrack. After that, I bought three postwar era cars (Lionel Lines Caboose, Sunoco Tanker, and a Missile firing car), a Lionel Inc. era Exploding Boxcar, and a loop of Menards track consisting of O-31 curves and a Lionel Tubular Remote Control Track. I wanted to compare it to FasTrack, and I honestly like it a lot more. Also, did you know the ZW can run FOUR trains and not just two? The little handles on the side of the main handles which you would usually use for accessories still chuck out the same amount of power, so hence they can power two more trains. I learned that from a Highschool Substitute teacher that has a ZW.

I knew it can do 4 trains, I just don’t have enough lock ons for more than 2 loops lmao

That's odd and sad that the MTH engine bent on you. I have 15 engines and 12 of them are MTH railking models which I have never had any issues with. It's possible that after Mike Wolf left the company things may have taken a bit of a hit, but I never remember paint applications being that rough and pieces being glued to the frame.

I have found, like you have, that the MTH products have more problems than other brands. I have several Williams engines and all but one run well. Lately, I have been buying Lionel Legacy four axle diesels (GP-9's and GP-30's) which have all done well right out of the box.

The USRA 0-8-0 E unit resetting is because the length of the pickups is too short for the switches. I’d suggest widening them so you don’t run into this issue

@@OldLow1361 e units are like the only thing I’m truly scared of when working with Lionel postwar stuff. I think the front coupler of my Santa Fe must have issues, as when it goes over the uncoupling track, the e unit activates. I generally leave the e unit locked for that engine and have it do passenger service.

I think the show layout would be the better choice, especially since you can advertise your YT channel and spread your knowledge of owning and maintaining various O and HO trains. I find enjoyment it sharing my fun with others, naming from running my collections at a public model train club inside a mall. Also, at 12:13, in the words of 3D Ultra Lionel Train Town Deluxe PC game: *"THAT'S A FENDER-BENDER!"*

As an o gauger, I 100% agree that mth has hit and miss quality control. A lot of my mth stuff has paint issues, be it flaking overtime or poor line work. The glue they use for the separate walkways on a lot of the proto sound 2 and early proto 3 era tends to let go and cause warping or parts to fall off. Not to mention mth engines are kind of notorious for blowing boards and speakers. IMO mths speaker quality is horrible compared to Lionel. Overall I tend to prefer the sound sets themselves over Lionel, but they delivery through the cheap tin sounding speakers just ruins it.
