Just had my ‘22 R MT low torque tuned at an APR dealer and it’s a whole new Fahrvergnügen!🎉 I’ll wait see what MK9 brings but no FOMO at all with MK8….in fact maybe best bang for buck on the road.

Facts. I totally agree, 8.5 it’s just a couple BHP more, the HUGE iPad on the dash and the new forge wheels. I will understand if people were upgrading from 7, 7.5

Good point. Biggest reason why I wouldn’t get the new one is because it’s not offered in a manual.

The 8.5R actually looks uglier than the 8R to me. The front end grill has large gaps in it that would make me worry that anything could get caught in there while driving. And the huge children's Ipad in the dash is comical.

Yo, Yosef.... what KIND of cameras do you have? LEICA Q3 now?..... I believe there is something about.... changing to a NEW THING.... then they look and look and look, it's exciting to RESEARCH then they GET the particular thing... LIKE ME and MY NEW 2024.... VW Golf R.... 6 speed.... so OH NO the 2025 is coming out? I shudda waited for the 2025? NOPE... NO MORE 6 speed... is the reason I for MYSELF... because I always wanted a Volkswagen Golf R, I am glad that it took this LONG, because I would have had to swap 3 of them out, as they progressed in SHAPE and Style... this ONE is ENOUGH for me and as much as the LOOKING BUYING and Driving it for the FIRST TIME.... I HOPE that the THRILL is always with me each drive and GEAR CHANGE...... I settled for Black, wanted BLUE but both get just as dirty.... and did not want white but ALL THREE COLOURS ARE... beautiful.....

For me I am debating getting the 2024 or waiting for the 2025. These markups I am seeing are ridiculous. I think i personally dont like the giant screen on the 2025 golf, but do like the illuminated climate control.

I got the 2024 R for one reason: last chance to get the manual. Speed isn't everything and it's a blast to drive. It would take SUBSTANCIAL upgrade for me to consider, which probably would be 2-3 generations down the line. But sadly at that point it probably will be full electric. I'll happily drive the 24 R for next 5-10 yrs.

The ID.4 can turn on a dime, which is very useful for parking and making U turns. ID.4 has a turning circle of 31.5 ft (outer diameter). For comparison, Ioniq 5 has a turning circle of 39.3 ft. Big difference.

My wife and I looked at the ID.4 two days ago. I would buy one today if it had proper tactile controls. I feel that the trend to have soft electronic controls is demonstrably unsafe as they require one to take your eyes off the road. I'm very disappointed that regulators have not pounced on these changes more quickly and aggressively.

I have a 2024 with BLUE badging.... but silver mirror caps, however it's a BLACK Golf R.... so the BLUE POPS.... I did want a Blue Golf R but they are very hard to find... especially in manual. I wanted to also ask, you're not usually in reverse and out of the vehicle.... where you had to run back into the car to push the cancel camera button... I mean... SCREEN ICON..... SO ARE YOU HAPPY OR NOT......

I own a '23 Pro 4 Motion and the car is absolutely overpriced! The charging performance is very bad - I've seen rarely more then 75.9 kw, so every stop on longer journeys will take aprox. 45 mins or more! The stints are not longer than 250km (startet with 100% battery). After 13000km the chassis begins to rumble. The factory mounted wipers are so bad you have to change them first! The travel assist uses speed limits from the moon - don't know where these speed limits come from ;-) The glass roof makes lot of noise, the doors won't open from inside on the first pull. The dashboard heavily mirrors in the front window.

Nice car, but 60K? Way over priced. If you drive 10K miles a year ( average), get a Taos for half the price and you won't need to deal with those useless chargers. If it's just to commute, then you're wasting your $$$. Buy a 21K chevy Trax. I don't know how can they even sell this thing?

I originally ordered the ID.4 but then changed my mind and ordered the ID.5 which looks better imo, hopefully get it by the end of July

A very nice car, but the form over function that comes from using haptic buttons and sliders instead of real buttons in knobs is not something I can support. The pièce de résistance is using 3 buttons to run 4 windows instead of 4 buttons. I vote no on cost cutting in the guise of minimalism. Volkswagen made this a competitive car by increasing the horsepower in the RWD and the AWD. The infotainment system has been fixed as far I know. But unfortunately they've spread those awful controls over all their cars. The ID Buzz will be a hit regardless though.

We own a 23 Pro S AWD and love it. One of the complaints is the window control which I don't have a problem with at all. Another is the software interface that I find to be problem free. Although I bought the car with 961 miles on it for $29,325 USD. At that price there is absolutely nothing that compares to it. There are some incredible deals on used EVs right now!

my guy you are complaining about things that can be fixed within the car itself, i have an mk8 gti and i operate it pretty smoothly, u dont have to drop a call on the media display,there is a button on the steering, it answers calls and drops the call too,also there is two cup holders, dont lie

I took delivery of my 2023 20th Anniversary edition in July, 2023. I have not had any of the electric issues (lights, radio), but I do not have a sunroof version (I'm in Texas). My tailgate does not seem to be as "heavy" as yours. I do not have the overactive sensor braking you described when backing into a parking space or garage (it'll beep, but no braking). Also, my dual zone climate temperatures stay synced when using the sliders under the radio. Apparently some programming changes were made (I see you have your infotainment software updated and it seems to have helped). Mine does have the annoying drive mode reset so I have to change it to "Custom" every time I start the car. Looking at other comments, my rear break rotors are rusting but I haven't addressed it. Mine has recently developed a slight shimmy, as if I've thrown a weight on a rim, or worse, something in the suspension is going (it's a little worse on braking). I only just rolled 8000 miles total. Still very happy overall (but could change if there's a major suspension problem).

I have a mk8R. I personaly think the hatch is balanced perfectly. Once you get it pastyhe fulcrum point you can just drop it and it will close softly. No need to slam it.

I did the same, I purchased a manual and did not even now how to drive it, so I had to learn how while the car was on route, I took ONE lesson with a MANUAL drive instructor, I almost broke his car, but I tried everything that I needed to TRY... like ON A HILL and rolling backwards, DOES VOLKSWAGEN HAVE HILL ASSIST... foot on brake and then on a hill it will HOLD for you while you move feet to Clutch and gas.... ?and the second thing I needed to find out, was HOW wild I could give gas, and how it effects power to wheels in 1st and second... IT WAS ROCKING back and forth... the driver instructor who had a pedal on his side quickly put the clutch in and ASKED.... WHAT in the world are you doing? I said I needed to know what the CAR would do when I pushed the gas in and out? and I found out on HIS CAR..... not mine when I got is 6 weeks after the order..... I have had.... 9 manual transmission cars... RX7, 2 Toyota Celica GTS's, A Volkswagen GTI, a Honda Prelude SE, a FORD Escort GT... so much fun, but the RAV4 was 10 years with me then went for a MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS 6 speed, WOW that was fun fun fun, and had Hill Hold assist... the first manual was a Camaro 5 litre High Output.... which was only maybe 135 to 180 hp and a V8... and to wonder HOW VW Golf R has 2 litre, 315 hp.... I did also have a Mercedes Benz A45 375 HP 2 liner.... so I'll be LOVING the VOLKSwagen R if I take the plunge....... THESE VIDEOS HELP PUSH ME TO WANT that FUN again..... I had to replace my dome light module as it was not working at all intermittently, including the sunroof controls. The hard part was showing it to the mechanics as it worked sometimes. Once they saw it, I got a replacement and it's been working fine so far (at least 6 months)

Cool we have one those in our neighborhood. Very noisy and i never see it. I think he hides in his bedroom... Or not. Byeeee

Great review! How do you find the ground clearance for daily driving? Do you need to be extra careful with speed bumps and bad road conditions?

Beautiful car and colour but those dang amber side lights in North America are just ugly. No power folding mirrors as standard? No auto hold feature for the park brake?

Stereo out of the box sucks. If you have any idea how to shape sound (yes I DJ on side so I have an advantage) you must go into the equalizer settings and re-do it all. Once you do that it rocks. The highs and lows again from factory are all set as flat and sounds horrible. If you want a pic of my settings let me know - happy to share what I bumped up and down.

Honestly. I think MOST of the issues are sooo slight that it seems like you have to REALLY look. Most of the issues would have increased the cost of the vehicle and made it less practical for some wanting the performance for the price.

VW interiors fell apart after the MK4.5, eg Polo 6N which was BULLETPROOF, compared to the 9N3 and MK5s with headliners falling off, headlight switch paint would flake off, and the plastic trim would suffer 'plasticizer migration' - and become sticky to the touch over time. Even the carpet went to a cheap nylon loop-pile that frays prematurely. Every generation results in more cost cutting.

Did they sort the issue with the faults on infotainment system? I'm having those issues now. Have it booked in next week for VW to look into.
