In this video I am reviewing the 2024 VW ID 4. I'm going to help you determine whether or not it's worth considering as a compact SUV and as an electric vehicle.

We own a 23 Pro S AWD and love it. One of the complaints is the window control which I don't have a problem with at all. Another is the software interface that I find to be problem free. Although I bought the car with 961 miles on it for $29,325 USD. At that price there is absolutely nothing that compares to it. There are some incredible deals on used EVs right now!

I originally ordered the ID.4 but then changed my mind and ordered the ID.5 which looks better imo, hopefully get it by the end of July

@@Drivers-EdgeYou’re welcome and thank you, also I forgot to mention that here in England at least the driver’s door handle does also move like a traditional door handle if you need to, more for emergencies if your car battery is flat you can still gain access to your car

@@TBKR90 Awesome!!! It probably won’t take that long, they told me 18 weeks at the time of ordering but they called me last week and said by end of July if there’s no issues with transportation from Germany, so that will only be 12 weeks😁

The ID.4 can turn on a dime, which is very useful for parking and making U turns. ID.4 has a turning circle of 31.5 ft (outer diameter). For comparison, Ioniq 5 has a turning circle of 39.3 ft. Big difference.

My wife and I looked at the ID.4 two days ago. I would buy one today if it had proper tactile controls. I feel that the trend to have soft electronic controls is demonstrably unsafe as they require one to take your eyes off the road. I'm very disappointed that regulators have not pounced on these changes more quickly and aggressively.

I absolutely agree, the lack of tractor controls really is distracting, as are all the ways we now connect with our vehicles. I believe that this is a segway by the auto industry to push more semi, or completely autonomous driving. It's unfortunately a reality that isn't going away... They don't build them like they used to, that's for sure!

@@Drivers-Edge My sense is that the reason for the poor controls is two-fold: first, it is cheaper and more flexible to use capacitive touch controls; second, they want EVs to have a distinctly different aesthetic. I predict that in 10 years, when EVs are much more common, they will revert to buttons, knobs, toggles, and dials and retro-styling in order to stand out from the competition. In the meantime, I sincerely hope that the various regulatory authorities being to mandate better useability for safety reasons.

@@KeithHanlan Yeh that makes sense. I would imagine that is also just easier with more functions being integrated in​to screens and touch buttons allows manufacturers to load more features and declutter the interior space. A slider or touch button can hold multiple functions instead of just one.

I'm not sure, to be honest because we don't get the ID.5 in North America, but vw typically standardizes updates across it's range to keep cost down, do I would assume so

A very nice car, but the form over function that comes from using haptic buttons and sliders instead of real buttons in knobs is not something I can support. The pièce de résistance is using 3 buttons to run 4 windows instead of 4 buttons. I vote no on cost cutting in the guise of minimalism. Volkswagen made this a competitive car by increasing the horsepower in the RWD and the AWD. The infotainment system has been fixed as far I know. But unfortunately they've spread those awful controls over all their cars. The ID Buzz will be a hit regardless though.

Yes, the lack of physical button trend is frustrating, but I am starting to come to terms with it. There are just too many functions in modern cars to have physical buttons for them all. That being said, there are better ways of executing on that than others, and VW has room for improvement here. I do really like the extra power and range and new UI and screen that has come with the refresh. This car won't be for everyone, but is a huge improvement over the previous year, in my opinion

I own a '23 Pro 4 Motion and the car is absolutely overpriced! The charging performance is very bad - I've seen rarely more then 75.9 kw, so every stop on longer journeys will take aprox. 45 mins or more! The stints are not longer than 250km (startet with 100% battery). After 13000km the chassis begins to rumble. The factory mounted wipers are so bad you have to change them first! The travel assist uses speed limits from the moon - don't know where these speed limits come from ;-) The glass roof makes lot of noise, the doors won't open from inside on the first pull. The dashboard heavily mirrors in the front window.

Nice car, but 60K? Way over priced. If you drive 10K miles a year ( average), get a Taos for half the price and you won't need to deal with those useless chargers. If it's just to commute, then you're wasting your $$$. Buy a 21K chevy Trax. I don't know how can they even sell this thing?

I agree, this is not the most economical vehicle in terms of spend vs savings in the real world, but most people on average spend about 40-50k on a new car and with government rebates the base model is a really compelling option. Especially compared to the electric competition it does start to make sense. That being said, for a basic commuter car, I agree there are much more cost effective options.

I leased this vehicle and I wouldn’t want a Taos personally. The id4 is definitely worth it especially with the discounts. It’s not a waste of money if you enjoy the vehicle. Why not get the car you want if you can afford it?
