Are you doing a 2024 video. The past videos have been very helpful!
@shotpointm288 күн бұрын
@mikesheetz9134 Thanks, Mike. I was thinking about it, as I always enjoy getting out there and laying my eyes on the course, but a lot of people have started doing them and I didn't want to water things down too much. I did put one together from a ride I did from Dockery and back last weekend, although the telemetry data is just a bit off.

Great video. Are you using a Go Pro to record the race footage with a chest harness? What settings are you using to allow for getting a full race on a single battery?
@shotpointm2821 күн бұрын
@ToddRussell-l6l Thanks, Todd. I am, with a Chesty harness. I have an old school GP Hero Silver 3 and I use a GP BacPac with it. It gives me over 4 hours of footage. I've thought about switching over to a newer camera with a gimbal and cooler features, like the Insta360, but the battery life has been the major reason why I stick with this.

I'm doing this race this summer and I'm watching your videos and keep debating if I should bring my gravel bike that has a suspension fork or my full suspension bike, not as efficient but more comfortable. What would you recommend?
@shotpointm288 ай бұрын
There are definitely some areas that the gravel bike would be a huge benefit but for the rooty, sandy areas, especially within the last 5 miles, you would be very thankful that you had that full squish! My recommendation would be the FS. Good luck! You made a great decision by already committing.
@mike_rides_bikes8 ай бұрын
@@shotpointm28 for sure, I'm Definitely bringing both bikes up just in case. My gravel bike clears 2.25 " tires and I've ridden it on less technical trails but I get what you're saying

It rained buckets all night prior to the start. Everyone thought it would be a repeat of 2014. But the sand just absorbed all that rain. And on race day, it was smooth and fast. Good to remember for future races that rain only has an impact when the ground is frozen. Good job, man. You know it's a challenging race when you're counting down the remaining hills ahead of you.

Hey Don, best of luck to you! Majority of the course is exactly the same. The only difference is rather than crossing the bridge within the first 2 miles, you turn a left on River Road then do an out- and-back before coming back to Frankfort. You don't have that first climb that's about 5 miles in.

Hey nice video, can you point me in the right direction on how to get that map up on the screen. I like it. I used a GoPro to record my ride and it's processing right now on youtube.
@shotpointm28 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Michael! If you're using Garmin Virb Edit, you import your video clips along with your Garmin activity data. Depending on your camera and its' setup, each clip is 10 minutes long. You have to align the activity data with each video clip. So, that means that you have to zoom in on the map and select the starting point for each clip. I use Satellite view and a ruler to try to be as precise as possible. Once you have done all of that, there are templates for the G-Metric data. I create my own template so that I don't have to select specific gauges for each video. I wish I could add audio to specific locations of the video but since it's free software, it does have its' limitations. Good luck and if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to reach out.

This is great 👍 I’m doing the race this year in Sept 2022. I couldn’t tell from the video - the Grace Rd climb was around 1/2 mile? But how much elevation gain? Seemed like it was really long … a mini climb first around 3-5% then plateaued a bit then the harder climb 7-10%. How long and elevation overall for that portion? Worried I don’t have enough gears!
@shotpointm282 жыл бұрын
Good luck! It was a lot of fun. I hope it helps give you an idea of what it's like, provided the course is the same this year. After looking at my Strava info, it looks to be a mile of climbing with a total of 256ft of elevation at a 4.4% grade, although that may be an average grade. What is your gear setup (1x,2x, etc.)?

@@jamesloftus758 James, I rode 40 miles of the course yesterday and River Road is a lot easier than the Grace climb. I didn't get footage as I rode with friends and started and ended near the Platte River Campground. My elevation gain was 1056 without Indian Hill and I went further on River than I was supposed to. You'll turn around near the alpaca farm....I continued on until the first big climb, climbed it, and then turned around.
