This is what good storytelling and artistry does. I'm Hmoob, but I rarely ever listen to Hmoob music. All my friends and (pastor) enjoy listening to some of the new young Hmoob artists. It's not the first thing I choose to listen to, but if it's playing I'll enjoy it, but I'm rarely ever paying attention (and no hate to Chenning or David, it's just hard to hear what they're singing sometimes). Vichai, this song and music video has perhaps made me want to listen to more songs like this. Big reason being my husband just lost his best friend on May 4th. I'm really close to the wife as well. They are a white family. My husband is also white, and we are all Christians. But I have always learned about traditional Hmong customs. The way your character as the txiv qeej choosing to be the one to send his beloved on in the spiritual realm as one of his final acts of love is so heartbreaking. Wouldn't we all, no matter the cost, want to be the one to pass our loved ones on to the next life? I know my friend would do nearly anything if just to see her husband again. Very, very, very well done.
