Fifty years ago, I studied to be an oil and gas drilling engineer and worked as an assistant driller on drilling rigs for two summers. This was in the Urals in the USSR. Then I worked as an assistant driller on a geological exploration drilling rig in Siberia for a summer. Then I built drilling rigs for oil and gas in Soviet Belarus. Even then, I realized that this work was not for me and after college I began working as a mechanic repairing equipment at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, survived the accident and still work as a mechanic repairing thermal mechanical equipment at boiler houses and power plants. All my fingers are in place. And even the hair on my head. But it is interesting and pleasant to watch how drillers work in the USA.

Sloppy. Stop breaking with the table and use both tongs instead and your slips will stop hanging in the table.

For those that don't know, this is a "shallow drilling rig" probably drilling for the San Andres formation in Texas, usually about a mile deep. From the time you move the rig to "spud" the well until you run casing, cement and move the rig is 7 days. Assholes and elbows the entire time! 😮

No disrespect, from a former roughneck, but if this is "assholes and elbows", they need to drink some coffee... This video is already 3 minutes longer than it needs to be...

So what stops fluids from coming out of the drill pipe when they add a new pipe? Just the driling mud that stays in the pipe in the ground?
