Some of the most gorgeous make up I've done were on the darker tones. I hope this changes for future genrations and embrace their beauty regardless of skin tone/color.

In Kazakhstan we are different in terms of skin color but nobody literally cares. Our culture is bases on warrior cult so skin does not matter, only your personal capabilities and power of the group you belong to. Skin color is actually stupidest shit I have ever heard. I noticed when travelling south - people treat me better as I am white skinned than when on the way back - when I am all tanned. 😂 in our country getting tanned in south seas is cool because it means you can afford going to resorts. I kind of resent the rest of the world except Kazakhstan for being stupid racists. Only heart and mind matter. And you guys look at surface.

In defense of Portuguese honour, S. Francis Xavier was what you call today Spaniard, from Navarra. And it also to be definitely proved that the inquisition had such a large impact as you suggest. They did what you say, but not to the extent you make it out to. If you have any source, based on primary, please put it forward, because there's lot of 'extrapolation' of numbers in this particular issue.

Primary source is in description - The India They Saw Part 3. Quotes are in that thread link. Though I don’t think present day Spaniards or Portuguese should be blamed for it.

As a black person in America i wasnt aware of skin tone until i was going to college in the south. I literally had to ask people, what skin tone am I? I know i have brown skin but not seeing any benefit or demerit because of my coloring. Im not talking black/white racism/descrimination - that absolutely exists. I never related it to it being bad or good, but i assume in some areas there was some merit in being lighter or darker. I did always cut my hair short but as i lived down south the preference was longer hair. I began to keep it longer. Its strange how people who are supposedly educated carry such an emotional attachment to color and appearance - something we have such little control over.

Sure, Skin Colour is inherently important in any peoples’ minds, but it’s Indian WOMEN’S stunningly gorgeous hair that I wish we understood. Indian women are not only inherently stunning, their hair is perfect. That’s why most American Black women pay a premium for Indian hair WIGS. The genetics 🧬 of skin colours & imo hair texture says more about a culture’s advancement. Hey! That’s exactly why regardless of your politics, Kamala Harris is definitively INDIAN & not African Black. Her skin colour and hair are decidedly Indian Continent.

Really insightful video. I’m really happy to hear that Indians are starting to embrace their beautiful dark skin, as it’s always been seen as shameful in Indian/Asian culture. I’m half Bengali and can go very dark when I can actually get sunshine on my skin (I live in England). I’m very interested in India’s history as sadly I don’t know enough about it. I’ve also noticed that when I bring up India’s ancient history with other Asians they actually do not know much about it, which I find very sad and unfortunate as it’s very interesting and quite amazing. I feel like people of Indian descent need to start embracing and finding out what actually happened in their ancient India. Very off topic but I’ve recently found out that cannabis was a plant that was widely used in India for all kinds of things and that it was fully part of the culture for thousands of years. I would absolutely love if there was a video on this, as I fully believed it would have had a huge impact on the their society etc - whether that was positive or negative??

Why do you lump people together despite knowing that each movement has its own politics and history? Please cite your sources when you make these bold claims. You could be talking about how the central govt literally dropped bombs on its own citizens in Aizawl and committed numerous acts of ethnically targeted violence and marginalized many people. But instead you just push this BS narrative that NE hill tribes are just colorist and ethnic supremacists. Go read Sunderlal committee reports and then ask yourself why maybe some people take issue with GOI. You are the one ignoring people's suffering and instead pushing some false narrative. Please fix this and stop spreading misinfo. Federalism is a serious issue and everyone needs to have their background respected. We cannot have a country based on "Hindi, Hindu, Hindustan".

As an African, who is black, this was very interesting to watch. In Africa, we do have a couple of people who are concerned with their skin tone, but most people don't even process skin colour. Like I became aware of my blackness when I watched this video, it's not something that's constantly on our minds. A good portion of Africans enjoy being the colour they are and embrace everyone, and I hope Indians can do the same. Also it was good to know that you guys partially descended from us! Amazing. Lol colourism started because of Africans, when in ancient times Greeks, Arabs contacted india they praised India as heaven in terms of civilization, education, sciences, philosophies but only after they came in touch with sub Saharan Africans they got new perspective that black colour symbolises slave which was never case before. Why?? Cause most bafricans doesn't have civilization, history, architecture, science only slaves. Hence it's the fault of pblack man that black started getting associated with slavery. Next thing, not just Indians all humans descended from early migration out of Africa. In fact a European is genetically more close to Africa than an Indian. Next bAfricans are totally obsessed with not just white but anything not African. 90% of them import hair from India for wigs and they want badly to be notified as non blacks. Talk to any eastern african from Ethiopia, Somalia they say on face that they're not black and got nothing to do with them.

There are several (Sub Saharan) African countries where whitening skincare products/treatments are a business going into hundreds of millions of USD. Considering that those products can contain harmful ingredients, some countries (Ghana, Rwanda, Ivory Coast) put a ban on those. And even then, they're still being sold on the black market. Some others, like Nigeria, have declared skin bleaching a national health emergency, but I'm not sure about what actions the govt has taken afterwards. If your region is not into skin bleaching, then I hope it stays this way.

I think, whatever is most rare usually becomes the epitome of beauty standards. In the Middle Ages of Europe, to the 1800’s being fat was considered a great plus in considering desirability. In those times with no central heat, with travel being arduous, being without labor-saving devices, with minimal amounts of food, adding fat was only prevalent for the rich. Being fat meant you had extra resources, you were healthy, you did minimal manual labor. When food became more accessible to the masses, fat was considered a detriment to desirability. It was something common.

There are two reasons for blue skin colour - 1. It's about chakras & associated colours. Kali, Ram, Vishnu, Shiva, Krisna all are depicted in bluish/violet colour even Shiva who isn't originally black or dusky according to scriptures. The highest chakra aka "Sahastra/ Crown" Chkra's colour is associated with violet colour. That's why these deities also painted in violet colour as violet colour represent opening of Sahastra chakra. 2.During modern time painters realised it's not possible to show well defined shades of skin colour with black colour colour. So they started to use blue in place of black.

Thank you such a concise historical overview. Saw Asian colorism as an educator, esp in parent conferences, at an elite governer's school. (14% minority students - all minorities). Not sure some Indian parent's recognized their own bias towards their brown skinned child; that this desire to "be close" to whiteness; their child's acceptence to this school. That white students were the "standard" for their kids (esp brown-skinned daughters 😒). In contrast my Persian student parent's superiority attitude was palpable. I'm brown-skinned Black woman; Asian parent's surprised to see me - a global literature professor. The faces were priceless!😂😂 It wasn't UNTIL I started talking -- my education & status "revealed" - that the respect kicked in. Education, international experienence trumped color. BUT, a back-handed complement. One of only 2 Black professors in the ENTIRE school. So, I was "one of the good ones." Qualified, acceptable to be in an academic white spaces. smh
