I really enjoy your material. Thank you for creating them. I have a Canopus 100 and 300. Used them for years. The only difference in what you're doing and me, is that I'm using QT to capture to. Do you not recommend doing this? I just use the "high" quality instead of the ProRes "max" as to me, capturing at that high of bit rate is not necessary for VHS and Hi8. Thoughts on just using QT and just drag it into your NLE for post work?

Is it true the AVDC 110 is only compatible with really old windows or hardware? I mean you can't just plug it into a modern laptop and start capturing?

How much does the digital file resemble the original footage? because I have an elgato video capture and it makes all the colours look washed out, any solutions I have found causes black crush, I just want it to look the same in the digital file as it does on the camcorder.

I purchased an advc110 and a firewire card for my windows 10 computer so I can digitize our family vhs tapes. With research I am finding that the paid versions of video editing software do not support dv anymore. Can you recommend a video editing software that will work and a tutorial to get the best quality? I have OBS and Davinci Resolve installed but they don't support directly. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried putting the Korg Nanokontrol Studio on an angled support behind your keyboard? That might overcome the issue with the knobs getting in the way of the buttons.

DUDE, this is one of my favorite videos of all time now! I have been researching VHS transfer processes for quite a while and I admit that I also got sucked into the DigitalFaq and VideoHelp nonsense. Tonight I was like, I'm getting to the bottom of this once and for all, and that's when I found YOUR videos, including this one. You are 100% correct that the "experts" on those forums need to start posting actual conclusive, inarguable evidence of all the technical info they have spewed for decades now, ESPECIALLY "LordSmurf". I DO appreciate some of his helpful knowledge, BUT, as you pointed out, he IS selling workflows/equipment. And, even though he probably has, out of ALL the posts he's made I've never once seen HIM post references that actually DEMONSTRATE that his arguments are "correct". And either way, even if he has, I completely agree with your conclusions. As you so rightly stated, the bottom line is: At the end of the day, can you REALLY tell a difference??? BTW, I just posted a video about the setup I am using, and even without an ancient 5-million-dollar "workflow", I think I am getting excellent results. If you go to my channel I would really appreciate your thoughts on the video I just uploaded a few days ago where I show my very inexpensive setup that includes the beyond-awesome Canopus 110. But since I'm using the Panasonic ES15 that is freakin awesome at removing tape wiggle/jiggle I don't even know if that is even necessary at this point.

When I plug in these speakers, the left speaker outputs volume at slightly lower volume. The difference is noticeable. Is it due to damaged Black and red wires that connect right to left?

My ADVC 110 looks blocky with VHS-C tapes and is less quality than my DVD recorders. I remember my old ADS Pyro AV video quality looked much better. Do you think I have a defective unit? The unit was made in 2011 after Canopus got bought out.

Hello I have enquired once before and was grateful for your assistance. I am trying to capture in Premier CS5 edition, but only have DV & HDV options available, no BlackMagic option. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Desktop Video as something on the internet said that Desktop Video may need to be installed after Premier. It could be something basic, such as CS5 being too old to support it too! If it is of any interest after a year or so of fiddling with VHS, I have gone from ADVC100 to USB Intensity Shuttles, with component from a Panasonic with inbuilt TBC, which gives the best quality I have seen from VHS. Currently capturing in OBS, which can deinterlace live, requiring no post-processing at all, but cannot save reliable interlaced files which most customers will be supplied with, which is why I am trying Premier. I also tried RCA-HDMI (tried twelve different devices before something worked with a fairly good picture, as good as an AV input on a digital TV (which was better than any composite USB capture devices) and even then it was unreliable, could lose the video and not regain the signal) to HDMI-USB capture as I think you had been looking at in a video I saw, but not sure if you got it to work. I found it was better than any other non-TBC methods, that did not require post-processing to convert from DV to something more widely-accepted. I had an external TBC with S video, but the Intensity Shuttle seems to prefer component. Most credit to GTH Electronics who have helped sort ninety percent of my issues in only two months. Hi, I desperately need help. I have been chasing video capture for over two decades. I'll do my best to make this short. I have about 150 tapes that me and friends made of us Backyard Wrestling. Goofy, I know. I captured them all back in 2003-2005 with a dazzle/pentacle device using various VCRS. I HAPPENED later buy a MAMNAVOX vcr/dvd recorder, and also converted all the tapes to DVD. I had no idea what a TBC was, and its only a coincidence I had one and kept it. I captured all of these Through COMPOSITE. I got what i expected at the time, and at the time it worked. But in this day n age, its obvious there is better equipment. I have 3 Magnavox vcr/dvd recorders, I have the canpous AV110, I have the Black Magic design Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt. I have a Mac Mini 2012 with Max ram that these all will work on. Problem is somehow, both the BM capture interface, and Adobe Premiere 2020 dropped frames. Which you'll get. But they progressively got worst. A lot of these videos are 1hr 1/2 to 2 and 1/2 hours. They would almost start "skipping" during the video capture. The monitor is good, so I know the VCR isn't the problem, its the device. So, I buckled down and bought a Mac Mini M2, and that where I screwed up. I like the mac mini 2, I so much want it to work. But BM stopped supporting the intensity shuttle for M1 and M2 mac minis. They only support on Intel mac computers. So basically, I feel like i needed a stronger computer, to up hold these long captures, but the new strong computer isn't compatible with BM. Also, freaking Adobe Premiere took away the CAPTURE function completely in its most current edition, which if you have a subscription you have no choice to use. So that leaves the canpous AV110, which I feel would had been perfect, 10 plus years ago. With BM intensity shuttle, I prefered to capture through COMPONENT rather than COMPOSITE. The AV110, looks good for COMPOSITE, and it will work with OBS capturing, which I feel is just fine and all. But now I feel I need a high end COMPONENT capture device that is a pass through, just like the AV110, where you don't need a software interface, I just need a device that is self contained, that OBS will detect as capture device with no drivers, just like AV110, but I need it to capture COMPONENT. IS there any advice here. There is too many youtube rabbit holes.

I search for Happy Birthday Debra. Simple. Why is YT bothering me with Debbie, Deb, Debby, Deborah? WHY? What is in it for them? There are already too many hits for Debra. Why make me more miserable throwing in a bunch of strangers? Long ago, if you searched online, you could add "quotation" marks to emphasize exact match. They just don't care. I'm sure somehow money is involved.

Maybe the Intensity Shuttle see's the weak signal as a form of APS like Macrovision and so it simply does not record it. Why they would comply to that??? So how is this for capturing my HI 8mm recordings in excellent shape and excellent tapes at 440 lines? I want the best result possible to see the details of these recordings.

How will this work if i want to capture high quality HI8 mm 440 lines from the camcorder that made the video. I want to capture all or as much of the quality & resolution from the HI 8mm recordings. I am not bothered by the size of the files created and would even favor a lossless format if it rendered an improvement of output. Would love to hear your opinion.

KZbin really needs to change a lot. Evetytime I search for a Luffy X Nami video. I see a lot of Luffy X Hancock and Sanji X Nami content which I don't want them on my results and I see a lot of stupid shorts and edits of it as well. Like this doesn't even concerns neither Boa or Sanji, I don't wanna see anything about Sanji or Hancock When I search for Luffy X Nami stuff, I don't wanna see anything about The Rock while I'm searching for some John Cena content. Like seriously, why do they keep showing them. I don't want it. No matter how hard I put exclude stuff, it still shows them with on their YT shorts. And YT shorts is also something you can't turn off while searching for stuff. Do the DV converters have Interlaced video top of bottom fields that you can choose during capture? Or is it bottom field automatically? DV cameras usually were Interlaced bottom field first. VHS, 8mm, etc was usually or always Interlaced top field first first.
