If you want to heal your body, I have been saying to myself "Thank you" repetitively. Literally like, Thank you, thank you, thank you (over and over again). Matt

Just curious doesn't it say flag should be at least at a 45 degree angle when hanging in flag pole? That flag behind you looks lot less than 45 degree angle doesn't it?

Don't wear a red dress to a wedding if the bride is Chinese. I know this because my cousin's wife is Chinese. For the wedding ceremony, she wore a Western-style white dress. But for the reception, she went and changed into a traditional Chinese wedding dress, which was red.

I don't know where to get a ribbon, so I might just sleep in until noon, and then put the flag out. Someone stole our flag during a previous holiday, so we had to buy a new one. I wish it had come with a ribbon.

Quite to the point, if I were getting married being female, now, in this time, I would request attendees NOT to wear red. These days people who stalk are known to wear red also. Gone are the innocent times and any color did not signify evil things.

This is what I have seen regarding wearing red (besides they stick out like a sore thumb): 1) It wishes the couple bad luck 2) It takes attention away from the bride 3) It means to break up the marriage 4) It means they slept with the groom They should stay away from wearing white and red to a wedding. It is the bride and groom's day.

Thanks! I have the flag and struggle with stuff. Didn’t know about the ribbon. Had to to do some serious research about the British flag here in Texas after the queen just dying. I’m a Brit, lol. Other sites say half staff sunrise to sunset though? (Rather than noon) Halp!

Hello! You’re correct. Most any time a flag is flown at half-staff it is from sunrise to sunset. Memorial Day is the only exception with it being half-staff until noon only. So sorry about your Queen. 🇬🇧

Odd question, but surely this must be an American tradition because in Commonwealth countries where we drive on the left hand side of the road, and take a mans left arm, we wear our fascinators on the left side of our heads. As far as I am aware this tradition dates back to the times that a gentleman should and would walk next to the roadside to ensure that a ladies crinolines were not spoiled by mud flicked up by horses and carriage wheels. I thank you for your interesting videos and await with interest your thoughts on those of us under Her Majesty's rule.
@sdetiquette
@sdetiquette 2 жыл бұрын
Hello! I love your perspective on this. I have read varying accounts as to why we take a man's right arm... the most interesting being because he was more easily able to draw his sword from its sheath when the lady was on his right! As far as which side to wear the fascinator, I notice the Duchess of Cambridge wears hers on the right but it can vary with other members of the royal family. Since publishing this video, I wonder now if it's more of a personal preference that changes based on the fascinator/hair/outfit of the day. Thanks for your comment!

Memorial day is never about living veterans!!! Your comment about going full staff at noon is very wrong.
@sdetiquette
@sdetiquette 3 жыл бұрын
Hey John! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. In my research for this video, I got this bit of information from the Department of Veteran Affairs (www.va.gov/opa/publications/celebrate/halfstaff.pdf), but after reviewing it again, I think I interpreted it incorrectly. The article states "On Memorial Day the flag should be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon only, then raised briskly to the top of the staff until sunset, in honor of the nation’s battle heroes." I took that to mean in honor of our nation's *current* battle heroes, but you're right, it doesn't make sense for Memorial Day to be about living veterans. The tradition must be intended to mourn the nation's battle heroes until noon and then honor them the rest of the day. Would you agree with that interpretation? I'm going to add a correction in the description clarifying.

@@sdetiquette I love this video, and also your calm and respectful response to the comments about memorial day and the traditional flying of the flag. I think the point that gentleman was trying to make was mainly about memorial day being a holiday to honor our fallen service members, and keeping that separate from veterans day which is focused on those of us who were fortunate enough to make it home.

@@sdetiquette also your point about the bow at the tip of the flag is incorrect, according to the regulation, the black (mourning) ribbon should be displayed as a straight piece of cloth which is the same width as one stripe and the same length as the flag.
@sdetiquette
@sdetiquette 3 жыл бұрын
@@coreyboldt9604 Yes, I agree with the separation of the holidays. Sounds like you’re a veteran- thank you so much for your service. Really lends a lot of weight to your comments and I appreciate you taking the time to comment! And thank you for the advice about the mourning ribbon. I’ve seen photos of some people using the bow at the end, but I agree with you, it seems more appropriate to use the single strip of black fabric. That’s personally what I use and what I recommend.

I say as long as the dress is not mostly white any other color, pattern, and style is fair game! I'm the type of person who doesn't like to dim themselves for someone's event or to please anyone. I've been raised that if you are closer in relation to the bride and groom the nicer you dress. I've shown up to a wedding in a prom dress before and honestly no one had any issues about it at all! Red is mine and my husband's signature color and I'm not going to wear something I don't look good in to a wedding. I always say you cannot please everyone and if someone is going to cause a big fuss about a dress that isn't white at a wedding then they have the issues and it has nothing to do with you.
@sdetiquette

That’s interesting about the closer in relation, the nicer you dress. I don’t think I’ve ever heard that. But it makes sense. And you are so right, we can’t please everyone! Thanks for commenting. ☺️

If you are so obsessed as to wearing a bright color red to a wedding, the bride and groom's day, regardless if it is your signature color, you are the one with selfish, self-centered issues, not the people who are paying alot of money for "their day". Stay home and watch TV in your red outfits for goodness sake, if you're so obsessed. Don't ruin another's day, even when they are kind and want the people they love to be at their wedding. Have respect for others. You want to be center of attention, throw your own party, pay for it and wear whatever you want.
