Just came back to say thanks for the credible advice. Carbon MTB frame, alu seatpost badly corroded, I applied the Soudal freeze spray on the free part of the post, it came right out. I stood on the saddle laid on the floor, and rotated the frame. The oxidized bond gave up after a few creaks.

Do you have or know a safe prevention for this failure besides avoiding this model?🙈 Great repair!
@LuescherTeknik26 күн бұрын
Yes, bonding in the insert prior toa failure helps significantly.

My Lauf Seigla came with the second type you said to throw away 😮
@LuescherTeknik26 күн бұрын
Did you throw it away??
@jazzfan749125 күн бұрын
@ I did. But I'm not absolutely sure the one I replaced it with solves the problem. I think the top stem bolt may still be a little unsupported.

"Medias" are doing the same thing they are doing in other fields (99% of them). Meaning pushing the narratives and the cover up for the ones throwing the money at them and this won't change...

imagine the SirVelo "engineers" and product "designers" discussing this idea and all thinking it's a great job

Where are the treaded bearings on airplanes or automobiles? I have a 10 year old Felt F4 with an alloy insert for BB30 press fit bearings. Never a squeak or a creak after I replaced the cheap FSA bearings with SKF bearings.

If only there was a more common sense approach... Like integrating the aero fairing into the head tube and not fork so you don't need limit stops...
@pierrex3226Ай бұрын
Form over substance. What an unnecessarily complex design.

Cervelo must have a bunch of engineers trying to justify their paychecks...🤣 So complicated for a very minor problem. Craziness.

What an awful overcomplicated design.

So that rod cannot be axial - it's the rod that must be impacting into the new aluminium plate at its limits? (Unrelated:) Not clear to me how that piece on the top of the fork bears on the upper headset bearing, or how preload is achieved on that bearing. Wouldn't that front piece (cowling) act against any preload, and offset it?

Aerodynamic is more important for marketing than reliability and servicing - sad. But I'm still happy with my 2010 R3.

Hmm, I will stay away from Plastickium. But will the industry?
@BleakVisionАй бұрын
The amount of silly, unproven, and frankly dangerous design shenanigans this industry has gotten itself into, in the worship of fiber enforced plastickium is astonishing.
@1mesonyxАй бұрын
Why the design is so complicated? Is it easier to service with internal routing?
@htdtrАй бұрын
No it's much harder to work on when it's all internal, it's for aerodynamics.
@sbccbc7471Ай бұрын
Internal routing to this extent never makes servicing easier. You have to uncable the entire bike just to service the headset bearings. Not too much of a big deal if it's done during a full service, but VERY much a BIG deal if this is the only thing to be done on a bike. A sub-one-hour job turns into hours of work and the service fee is higher too.

I'll keep riding my bicycle that is made out of the mysterious material called 'metallium'. Thank you very much.
@SavaiosАй бұрын
So its safe to ride now? Or better get Tarmac SL8, Aeroad or Trek Madone?
@RyonBeachnerАй бұрын
It wasn’t unsafe to begin with, it was just a dumb design that could result in unnecessary damage when crashed. Also, it’s funny you bring up Specialized and Canyon who had major stop ride recalls for fork expanders, bars and seatposts as if they’re better. 😂
@fieldlab4Ай бұрын
Seems like CF could be covered in kevlar or singing make them more resistant to surface damage. Or just use kevlar tape under mount points
@BleakVisionАй бұрын
Or just use an orthotropic material like the mysterious 'Metallium'. It's super cool and high tech and light, just like the cycling bros like it!
@fieldlab4Ай бұрын
@@BleakVision I have a lot of hope about graphene metal alloys which can match the strength and lightness of carbon fiber yet retain all the assembly, welding, brazing and machining advantages of metal. Don't trade your metal shop for a curing oven just yet.
@fieldlab4Ай бұрын
With the right adhesive and metal preparation or primer that might have worked. Really sealing it up or allowing moisture to escape is critical for steel though.
@fieldlab4Ай бұрын
But adhesive can only be a thin layer. Building it up to fill a gap won't work. You would need to braze a steel bushing into the chain stay repair

Overall, I would say it is a specific wheel for racing only but other training will a daily rider definitely not will too expensive and pretty much non-repairable being practical I would have to give this will👎🏿 thumbs down
